Blacksburg is seen as a backwoods small college. Southern country culture, and the stereotypical 'southern pride' not so subtle racist people that come with them are what these kids are being told to expect in schools like Tech, especially from ones such as UVa or UNC. However true or not that it is, playing it up on the biggest stage like we are when these kids are going to be in town... doesn't seem like the best idea to me.
I read/heard a few times when all the Miami stuff went down that the NCAA will never use the death penalty again. They saw what it did to SMU.
It was on VT Yik Yak all day on Friday.
But I agree- I've always referred to the one as Gucci Kroger (no 's'), the other i just said "the other Kroger" - no 's'
I imagine Kendall gets points on what to say as well, hopefully the if's are coach speak

O wait that's right there has been a steady string of country artists selling out NFL and NBA venues.

Whit had some help from other organizations (he mentions Sands and IMG) but this feels like primarily his doing. Would the idea to even try having a concert have come up if Whit wasn't here? I can't speak to that definitively but I seriously doubt it. Did he do this alone? Certainly not, but I'm giving Whit credit for getting Paisley to Bburg for the game weekend based on these quotes from Andy Bitter because it sounds like the idea came from his department.

It definitely does reinforce the stereotype of backwoods college town in the middle of rural America... That in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but when that is one of the main negative recruiting aspects people use against us, playing it up isn't always a good idea.
They couldn't hear the zing. They were too busy practicing blocking each other.

I don't see why everyone is so quick to think that Whit is respinsible for this. Maybe he is but it seems hard for me to believe that the athletic director is putting together concerts.
I'm terrified of Braxton getting the ball on a swing pass or quick handoff and getting into a one on one tackling situation. Most times I suspect he'll be clobbered and don't know how much punishment he can take; but, he only needs a slight crease in the open field and he could be gone. We need to get 11 hats to the ball at all times.
I sometimes enjoys stuff, but I prefer things. How about you? What are your thoughts on things?

^This is the most damning part of it all. Once you get out of college into the real world, no one gives a damn about your precious feelings. And sure, the article even mentions how the DOJ has started leaning towards hyper-sensitivity, but are you really going to make a living suing everyone every time they offend you? These kids need to get over themselves, learn to deal with a little bit of disappointment, or learn how to express the fact that they dont agree without starting a shit storm

I not only wrestled it, but then I forced it to beat anOSU for us.
so what you're saying is...it isn't the size that matters?
The sentiments about the crowd noise and the stadium size...no one has come into Lane Stadium for a big game and said it wasn't loud. I have heard people go into the shoe and say it wasn't especially loud.
Sometimes it is more about the looks of the stadium. The 'Shoe looks impressive at night with 100,000 people; that can't be denied. But it wasn't built for sound, and the fans don't stay on their feet and loud for every play like they do in Blacksburg. We don't cause multiple false starts a game because we play at a "practice field", it's because it is loud and intimidating, despite the size difference.
Like the games themselves, crowd noise isn't won on paper...

He's more mainstream country, which is closer to pop/rock with a southern feel rather than banjos and the like. And they are putting on a concert for the community, not the recruits, especially since the concert is the night before the game. I would recommend for anyone to go, regardless of music preference because you go to a concert for the experience and the performance, not the quality of music and both of those will be top notch.
Being as realistic as I can think:
OSU - L, This will either be a tough close loss, or one that is close in the 1st quarter and then is unreachable by halftime.
Fur - W, I don't think we're going to take it easy on them. Not worried about this one.
at Pur - W, Purdue is awful, but given that we have played to the level of our competition the past few years, I say it's close, but we pull out a W.
at ECU - W, No Carden. No problem.
Pitt - W, Don't think we lose this one at home. Connor will likely have 100+ yards, but hopefully their offense stays one dimensional and drives stall and they have to settle for field goals.
NCST - L, I'm not convinced NCSU is overrated this year. Their QB will be the difference in most of their games. I don't think they have the talent to beat the likes of Clemson and FSU this year, but they'll be tricky for us to handle. Not totally confident in our ability to contain Brissett on Friday night.
at Mia - L, Letdown loss after a letdown loss.
Duke - W, Blowout.
at BC - W, Late comeback, close game.
at GT - L, They'll be good, hopefully we don't have any big injuries going into this game, but I see them getting the win at home.
UNC - W, Not close.
at UVa - W
