How about everyone stop with the "how this affects who more" and get back to the conversation that the two OSU fans below are having, which is about the band and it's failure in leadership. I find their differing takes on the "investigative" nature of this article very interesting.

I don't buy into the "we spent too much time preparing for Navy and weren't ready for VT". If that's the true case, its probably the most blatant batch of incompetent game planning and coaching I've ever heard. Ever. I don't buy it. Meyer is too good of a coach to focus too much time on what should be a tune-up and underprepare for the first true test of the year.
Soooo..... tell me about VT's next game last year after playing OSU.
Also, all remote game planning communication is made utilizing a pair of Dixie cups and string so nobody can intercept the transmission of sensitive information.
Must have lost one heck of a bet... Or met the future Mrs Teller.
So glad I got to at least see it in person.
Side note: The offensive line group at fan day may have had the least amount of fans wanting their signatures (aside from maybe special teams), but they were the best ones to visit. They had their twitter accounts written on the table, they were all smiles and talkative, and they even asked the fans to sign their names on one of the tables for them to keep. Nice bunch of guys. Trey Edmunds and the running backs were also great to see.

Exactly, and I'm sure if she was genuinely offended by her nickname she could've had it stopped. I hate to see 99% of band members and alumni getting their names smeared because of a very select few 1% who engaged in atrocious behavior.
He must of read some of the predictions on 11W and just decided to shave it now /s
I know. Plus, I thought he was going to keep it going and only cut it IF we lost to anOSU.

# | Bitter blog - 'Big baby' Tim Settle a camp curiosity, although role this year might be hard to find Honestly, I was just as excited to hear he made the grades and coming this year but lets be real and I think the coaches see this too. 1) Barely squeaked by with his grades to get in, work on the grades and get a good foundation for next season 2) Shed the weight, tone up and get ready to take a huge role in Bristol, VA 3) We have the depth right now so don't let other guys lose reps they have been working for especially if the coaches see Settle #4,5,6 DT. I love high school recruits with big names get a year to observe and learn as we all talked about "What If" Tyrod Taylor didn't have to burn a redshirt... Tim your a great ball player and you got the right mindset work on the grades your Freshmen year and we can't wait to see you destroy some Vols in Bristol!

I'll say, the lack of a paywall is what brought me here in the first place. As an undergrad, the last thing I wanted to spend my pennies on was sports content, especially when there were $2 dollar doubles at big al's until 9.. I am still an avid visitor of the site and appreciate the constant stream of content, although I cannot compare to what lies beyond the paywall.
I'll reiterate one point i've made previously.. A dedicated beat writer would be an awesome addition, but $$$. I think it is a much more feasible and in line with the TKP community spirit to take on promising communications student from VT. These kids rarely get paid to take on an internship and often have to pay Tech just to accept credits for their work. Is anyone on 'staff' an 'intern' now, do we you pay them? As a 'stakeholder' with as much power as anyone who uses the comment section.. I'd like to see PAID interns over a salaried beat-writer. Comm majors are unhireable into the sports media world without some experience, and it'd be real cool to see them be able to take their experience and do something with it, beyond TKP. I'm sure there are some posters/lurkers on the site who are more than qualified and working towards a degree at VT. Sure, we will have to take on new students as some graduate, but content and opinions will stay fresh from the mouths of those living in blacksburg. Obviously, the biggest hassle in this space would be organizing and on boarding an intern, and for that I do not have a good suggestion.
Also, i'll say i'm a huge fan of Andy Bitter, and he does a good job of plugging his work on this existing space. I know he has even reminded the common man, naive in technology of the use of incognito/delete cookies to avoid the n articles read per month limits...that is a good dude
If it turns out that that was the source of his power....

# | Blacksburg listed as Location on Brad Paisley's Crushin' It World Your Tshirt If this was a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert or some other "redneck rock" group, then you might be right. Brad Paisley does not fit that mold. And people really need to get off the whole idea that this is some recruiting ploy or that it will have any negative effect on recruiting. It's a ploy to get fans into Blacksburg for the entire weekend to capitalize on the momentum of the anticipation of Monday night's game. There are plenty of rap concerts, rock concerts, and classical music performances put on throughout the year to fill anyone's fancy, but this is something where they can attract folks from all over the NRV to campus and Blacksburg for one of the biggest names in popular country music right now.
EDIT: Note that I do enjoy Lynyrd Skynyrd and am not trashing the Southern Rock genre. It's just that the name "redneck rock" seems to be the direction Alum is implying is being brought to Blacksburg for this concert. While there will be cowboy hats and boots as well as girls in short, short, SHORT shorts, he's not the kind of musician that attracts Confederate flags and the like compared to Lynyrd and others.

Been 3 years since looking at this site (2 as a member), I have a TKP Tshirt and looking to get the pint glasses. No problem in pitching some money as I check this site more than facebook now. I disagree about your characterization of the report. Having read the report it was a classic failure leadership on Jon Water's part, IMHO. Having some experience in investigations and dealt with culture issues at work, I've learned that what people will say publicly and what they'll say not for attribution are often different. Given the strong sense of belonging in TBDBITL, it's not surprising that no one publicly will say "It was bad" and be ostracized as "the person who destroyed the band and cost JW his job..." Even complaining about something, within the organization, in such a tight group often brands one as a troublemaker and "outsider."
The band had a culture problem, and JW was tasked with fixing it. Ultimately, for me, the statement were not what pointed to a failure of leadership.Culture problems are fixed by decisive action, not by slow deliberate action. As the leader, he has ultimate responsibility for what goes on in the band.
Personally, I think JW was caught between leading and being one of the guys. He grew up in the band and it's hard to make the transition to leading and changing a culture that has molded and shaped you. He no doubt was trying to make changes, but slow changes usually result in the culture overwhelming the change and maintaining the status quo.
The band will no doubt go on and continue to be great. Band members have a right to be proud of their membership and upset that a small number brought disrepute on it. But strong leadership is needed to make that happen and JW apparently wasn't the right guy to so do.
It's a sign that you represent the name that is on your uniform. You drag that name through the mud, you are dragging everyone else associated with the name through it as well. It's a privilege to be a part of any organization, whether marching bands, greek organizations, or job related groups and if you slip up and tarnish that name, you become a representation of the entire group, whether true or not. It's the responsibility of the organization to remove the rot, but that doesn't remove the stain left behind by their actions.
