I won't discount Durkin at all, I think he could be integral to our success in the next few seasons. But I think Motley should be the change-of-pace quarterback this year.
The biggest reason I think so is that he has more experience, so I think he will be able to operate our offense better if Tex goes down. I liked what I saw out of him last year when we used his mobility and size to move the ball in a few specific circumstances, and he's good enough in that respect that I don't think we get a significant upgrade with Durkin. In cases we need a new #1 due to an injury to Tex, Motley is my new instant #1.
As for scenarios where we have the option to play anyone we want (for example: the 4th quarter of a blowout victory), I'd like to have Motley in to get additional live reps so he's sharp for the remainder of this season, with a mix of a little Durkin to get his feet wet in that role in preparation for the future.
Mike Leach was super-aggressive early on at Texas Tech and didn't punt much. As his teams got better he got slightly more conservative because the big teams tended to eat his lunch.
Not punting at all works really well in high school because it's high school-level talent. It probably wouldn't work as well at the higher levels as teams adjusted and became more aggressive on defense. There is solid evidence that you should never punt when you're on your opponent's side of the field.
Just found out that VT is not allowing media including its own to live broadcast the scrimmage, anyone that's going to be there want to stream it on periscope for us?

# | Hokies Sift Through Stable of Now-Healthy Running Backs, Develop Continuity on the Offensive Line 100% in agreement. Darren Evans is a legend in my book, and could have proven it for all time had he stayed another year.
At the time he played, he wasn't the fastest or most athletic (RMFW and DW4 were both better in both respects) and didn't have the big play potential those guys did. Judging by their NFL careers, you could argue that Darren was the least successful of the three.
But there have been few players who rank higher in the history of my fandom that best represented the attitude on the field or character off of it than Darren Evans. His statistics are good enough to suggest that, had he had his full four years, he could have been the most prolific running back in Virginia Tech history on top of being a fan favorite.
15-0.
I posted the link so you can still read the exchange; it's public AFAIK. There will be an announcement here closer to the start of the season.
"Coach will you ever beat VT?" "How are those thoroughbred guys working out for you?" "Where do you see yourself when your coaching career ends? Police work is a rewarding field."
SLH..that was tongue in cheek.
I'm not on Twitter
Like all things UVA, I'm sure it's fake.
Read this. It helps.
How will VT score was the topic and I post one of your scores. I though that to be relevant.
It is the topic, but using a single, or any, performance(s) in last season to exemplify expected performance this season is not relevant. If that's all it took then I just need to bring up the score of OSU v VT and the argument is closed.
It just doesn't work that way. Too simplistic. College football has never worked that way. If that's all it took then our performance two years ago should have dictated we lose to you last year. Fact is we came away with the upset last year and there is at least a minimal chance of VT doing it again this year. And that's what makes college football great. The unknown any-given-Saturday event that we all clamor for. So like I said, you shouldn't have been downvoted but you're line of reasoning is askew.
But for sure this is a shit talking forum, so no worries.
Sweet app- thanks for sharing.

The best cheap eats downtown, no question. Souvlaki's was the last place I ate in town when we moved out.
Souvlaki's opened my sophomore year, I think. I love that place. Dropped by the 'burg this summer on the return leg of a visit to my Mom's for lunch. (Also to get a new VT hat and scope out the Beamer barn).
Not to pre-empt Joe's announcement (I know there will be one), but:
Just saying...

# | Hokies Sift Through Stable of Now-Healthy Running Backs, Develop Continuity on the Offensive Line I would like an update on Caleb. It would be great to hear he has finally found his place.
I agree with your point, I hope we don't squeeze a 3rd or 4th string RB on the field instead of playing our best players, which could be a 2nd TE or 3rd WR.
reading the comments from not having seen 1 it just looks like everyone wants a simple story with only 2 or 3 characters. rather than the network of interrelated plotlines that are happening in 2. So apples and oranges really.
The two main characters were what made the first season. It just seemed like the writers said "Ok, if it worked last season, than more must be better!" And then proceeded to overwhelm us.

Tyrod...just... if you owe your teammates money, just pony up. It's for the best.
