And I'm pretty sure I'm wrong, because I've been looking at OSU as an power out of the split backfield instead of inverted veer. So, yeah I'm wrong

I guess I'm wrong, but I've always believed power run game is making holes by lineman and busting an inside gap. Yes the line is the most important part, not the backfield. Line opens the hole and rb busts it open. I just believe in power run is between the tackles, whereas read or zone is primarily outside run, hence the veer. You can call it power run, but generally on the veer or option run game, you have a design to the strong or weak side,a pulling guard or tackle, and you react to the defenders on the outside. Not saying you can't run the veer inside but it just isn't done often, because it limits free space. We ran a single wing split backfield with 5 pa per game at my high school and never once in my 4 yrs on varsity did we run the veer inside, even though it is more common that way with the single wing. Like I said, I'm probably wrong, but I personally always associate power running with plays between the tackles, but that's me. If I am wrong, that's fine. It won't be the first time

I like this.

Slightly OT, but how do y'all feel about statues? I don't really like them, and having a Beamer statue just sounds weird to me. They are also prime targets for vandalism; even if it's harmless like the opponents tshirt being put on it. But if one ever does get made, we all know what the pose should be...

- Pistol puts your RB going down hill.
- A wide TE and 3 WR or 2 wide TE and 2 WR draws both OLB's out of the box in a base D. or forces a Nickel package.
- Now you are 5 OL vs 5 defenders (4 DL / 1 LB or 3DL / 2 LB)

If the D stacks the box by bringing up the SS to cover a slot receiver, then it's no different from I-formation with 8 in the box against 5 OL, a TE and a FB. +1 for the defense.

Except now your QB and RB have more room to operate and can more easily neutralize the extra defender with a veer option, because there's fewer bodies in the box to potentially beat a block and blow the play up or chase it down from behind. Plus all the strategies against an 8 man box still apply... pulling weakside guards, counter traps, etc... to create a #'s advantage playside and leave extra defenders grabbing air weakside.

To me power running is more about attacking the defender with drive blocks and pin & pulls vs semi-passively screening the defeners off with zone blocking, then pushing them to overplay the gap they attack to create cutback lanes for the RB.
Power Running = offense creates the hole with a specific gap in mind and blocking angles to match.
Zone Running = offense lets the defense creates the hole by overplaying & the RB reads

"... Coach Beamer. I learned more about how to treat people, how to run an organization and how to care about others from this man. There is not a statue big enough or a road long enough that could justifiably honor what he has meant to the school, the football program or those lucky enough to call him a friend." -Bill Roth

I suppose this is a start

LMAO, 4 hours and this isn't green? Should have gone green before Charley could waddle to the buffet. Oh, wait...

"Coach Weiss, you missed last call at Golden Corral, what are you're options?"

I lived in KCMO for 5 years. Great place. Highly recommended.

Lawrence where KU is... Small town. But just so-so.
