I wouldn't go that far, but I'm sure Bud has some things up his sleeve to counter some of OSU's counters - like that speed option they so comically abandoned after the 3rd quarter.

This right here, VT didn't blow it. VT coaches don't throw scholarships out to every player and then choose who they then take. IF a player is given a VT offer its because you have been given the chance to play at VT and go to school for free. VT does its homework, the reason they are the first to offer a lot of kids.
The linebackers are the biggest question marks, no question. And that's really almost by default. Clarke is gonna be just fine, he played really well towards the end of the year and had a pretty good game against OSU last year too. If RVD can stay healthy (a big if up to this point), he'll be a good one too. Motu is the big one. He didn't have a great spring game, but he had a pretty darn good spring up until that point. He needs to work on playing a little lower and making sure that he plays fast enough to attack downhill and get guys on the ground where he hits them, when he hits them. Foster has said repeatedly he likes where Motu is at right now, but the next few weeks of camp will be really big for him.
I am not going to claim I knew anything about Allen's recruitment, however I can say that as a senior, he was as about as ideal a fit for a DE in Bud's system as I have seen until Jalen Dalton came along. I am not buying this explanation. I don't doubt your credibility, but it doesn't align with my observations on Allen's high school career.
I'm just gonna throw this out here: Last time we were concerned about a new Rover's ability to tackle on a Labor Day opener, Kyshoen Jarrett came out and wrecked his fair share of Georgia Tech runners. Reavis is a loss, no doubt, but don't count out one of the young guys stepping up in a big way.
That I agree with. And I don't think Hand's best fit was Alabama. He should have gone to a true 4-3 school. Butch Davis version of the 4-3 from UNC would have been the ideal fit for his path to the NFL.
Agreed. I worry less about the secondary (replacing two safties) because there is a lot of talent and experience there, but the LBs are Motuapuaka, Clarke, and....
Seems like my concern area.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see something like this happen. Foster and Gray do stuff like that with their DBs all the time. They'll show press, bail into deep half or third responsibility right before the snap, then plant a foot at the snap and come up in run support/cover the flat. They love to bait the QB into seeing certain things and then countering the obvious counter. Given the amount of attention the bear look has gotten since that game, I think Bud could have a lot of fun early in the game that will force Meyer to make a whole bunch of adjustments.

With respect to Whip, I would love to see RVD have a coming out party in a big way! We will desperately need him ST also.
The John Allen thing is really interesting actually. I've talked with one of his old coaches and VT blew it and then some with his recruitment. When VT was first introduced to him, John was "too small" and so they wouldn't offer until they saw how much he grew. This apparently pissed him off and he felt spurned the rest of his recruitment. Prior to that, he had been very interested.
