Is it the coaches poll or AP poll that shows up by the team on TV? I don't care really that we aren't ranked, 29 sounds right to me but I was kind of hoping we would be ranked in the top 20-25 so it would make the game on tv look a little more sexier.
I guess that's why the teams have to actually play the game.
Ohio State will definitely be favored, but this doesn't hurt VT's chances.
I don't know if losing a player that a large number of "experts" consider perhaps the best defensive player in college football this year will "likely be replaced" by some guys that will be seeing their first real significant playing time in a hostile road environment. Not saying those guys won't be good players, but lets be real...
The issue that seems to be getting ignored is that the VT defense matches up well with Ohio St. I don't know if that match up swings back in OSU's favor by losing playmakers.

The OL we fielded that night was the second least-experienced OL in the entire country, with something like six starts total entering the season. By season's end, that same line went from one that gave up seven sacks to you to becoming one the best in the entire country (just ask the DCs of Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon--especially the Oregon DE who collapsed on the sideline near the end of the national title game).
Although you also had a new QB, he wasn't thrust into the starting job less than 10 days before the season started. Barrett was our third-stringer up until a few days before Miller got hurt, and got very little practice reps until a week before then season started. Fairly different scenario.
So a consensus All American is overrated? Really?
What players of ours played the game of their lives exactly?
Was it the QB making his second start that had been on campus even less time than JT? Or does that only count when making Buckeye excuses? Was it our 2 starting WRs that were making the 2nd start of their college careers? Definetely not them. Was it our stud TE that was also making his 2nd start as a R-Fr? No not him either. Was it our All American cornerback that played very well. Probably not, I have seen better games from Fuller. Or maybe our other high end CB that was injured during the damn game and played pretty well? Also probably not him.
Clearly you are talking about Sam Rogers. Every game he plays is the best game of his life because....Sam Rogers.
Or maybe you are talking out of your buckeye, because a young VT team beat OSU man to man, and the only difference in personal was the QB that was so awful he won 11 straight after playing us or whatever it was.
Lose the saltiness, because you are right you are not on a Buckeye message board. It almost sounds like you are starting to rationalize reasons why we are going to beat you again here real soon.
I'd be perfectly happy to be held to only 324 and win 35-21 like last year...
Does anybody know what section these tickets are typically in? Are they decent seats?

# | It was Bound to happen (11W Response): Who Can Ohio State Expect to Step Up Against Virginia Tech Following Its Suspensions? Some positions are less dependent on experience than talent such as DE and WR. Other times experience matter a lot, like OL and QB.
I don't really think his shoulder will be much of an issue.
I think things like learning how to block (or maybe even learning to 'want' to block...see: Davis, Marcus), being in the correct place at the correct time away from the ball (it only takes one misplaced player to screw up a play), running routes crisply (to keep defenders more honest), or catching a ball in traffic are the types of things that could be real issues.
Many think that if you're a good athlete, you can just automatically shift positions (see: Thomas, Logan; Caleb, Joel; etc., etc.), but far more times than not it isn't successful and, more importantly, even fewer times it's successful right away.
I guess you could say Keihn...

I would have liked to have seen both teams at full strength for the game. Games are just better when your best players are out there making plays. Bosa for them, and I'll go with wanting to have Reavis for us. Would have been nice.
You cannot replace a Joey Bosa. You can't. But let's not forget that this isn't Meyer's first year in Columbus, and with the talent he stockpiles and the annual talent haul that OSU would pull in even without him, you can bet the next man up is going to be just as good, if not better, than most of the starting defensive ends around the country. The storyline at the beginning of the game may be the loss of Bosa. But the storyline at the end may be about the new guy who stepped in and showed his talents to the whole country. Lord knows it's happened before, with this team, last year...in the big ten championship game...at quarterback.
Let's not start counting out chickens. They're the champs for a reason, and it isn't because they were reliant on any one guy or any subset of their guys. As our esteemed visitors from 11W point out, the cupboard is stocked, and we'll have our hands quite full come Labor Day. Thanks, Buckeyes, for coming around. Your insights are valued.
Having said all that, the PSU folks up here are loving that Bosa got suspended. All around the office today there were smiles.

It's well known your secondary is tremendous - especially at corner. But if Foster crowds the box again to stop Zeke and JT on the ground, two of your best players will be locked up in man coverage with our wide-outs - their backs to the line of scrimmage a good part of the time.
I read an article a while ago in which Foster said he knew last year he was taking a great risk that our redshirt freshman quarterback and raw offensive line would not be able to capitalize on the situation. He mentioned being susceptible to a big play from the tight end, in particular.
I know you guys have two exceptional tight ends - but our guy, Nick Vannett, is also quite good - and a very experienced senior. Our inexperienced o-line was so overwhelmed last year, that our tight ends were forced to help with pass protection. That shouldn't be the case as much this time around.
Besides, depending on what Foster does with Chuck Clark following Reavis' suspension, one safety or the other will not be all that experienced.

Just going to say, a non-biased post would have to come from a fan of a team other than Ohio State or Virginia Tech...
Don't think for a second that losing Devin Smith (and now 3 receivers) won't make those creases a little smaller though.
My biggest VT worry is still at the Mike position. And you can bet that the OSU coaching staff will be targeting that from the get go.

Now for a non-biased, objective post. Of the four players we lose for the game, obviously Joey Bosa is the biggest. He will likely be replaced by either true sophomore Jalyn Holmes (whom VT highly recruited IIRC) or redshirt freshman Sam Hubbard. Holmes got some PT last season and was decent, but not eye-popping. Hubbard was redshirted as he grew out of his safety body (went from something like 220 to 260 after he arrived). He was so good during scrimmages that Meyer seriously considered burning his redshirt midway through last season. Obviously there will be a noticeable dropoff with Bosa out, but it may not be that bad. And with the rest of the defense intact, I feel confident that they will attack your offense without relent.
Braxton Miller will now have to chance to shine at H-back, as he'll be the replacement for Marshall and Wilson, so we expect no dropoff there, and maybe even some improvement (many think Miller was going to jump them anyway). Corey Smith was a decent WR last year, but was essentially the third or fourth WR. Michael Thomas will be our big-play WR this year, filling in for the departed Devin Smith. Several other burner WRs who had PT last year (Noah Brown and Johnnie Dixon) will fill in, so the loss of Smith won't be that great.
Obviously, losing starters, especially an consensus AA and probably top-5 NFL pick hurts, but our talent depth should somewhat limit the damage. As the old saying goes, "we don't rebuild, we reload."
Actually, most people would be terrified at some of the thoughts that have lasted for at least a picosecond inside my head.

Kids being kids is one thing but come on man. Now we have to hear the dumb shit comments all year long again. I was hopeful that we could get through the off season without any dumb shit happening but it goes to show. Next man up for the D-Line. We should have no worries on O side of the ball as long as we throw and run balanced (we will) but on the D side of the ball, we may give a lot more up then I thought we would. Final score OSU 63 Va. Tech 14
