In my experience a front squat, if done properly, does a much better job of engaging the posterior chain and subsequent stabilizing muscles than any form of the back squat. In fact I've intentionally avoided the back squat because of this. What am I missing here? Isn't the back squat usually "Squatting for dummies?"
EDIT: in fact everything I'm now reading about the low bar squat states that it does not do a better job of training the hams. So I'm thinking false on this.

# | Frank Beamer Hopes Virginia Tech's Next Head Coach "Would Come From Our Staff" Stiney wasn't even calling the plays at the end of his OC stint. You think that was his choice?
Soooo what, he should just retire now because some people use it against him that he's retiring soon?
Shit, why didn't we think of that? We should be out telling all recruits that Saban will be retiring soon, so there's no reason for them to commit to Bama. Once Bammers finds out coaches are saying it, they'll have no choice but to force his retirement!
I agree with you in regards to the posterior chain and if you do front squats over back squats I agree with the other poster that you need to ensure you are hitting enough accessory lifts to ensure the hamstrings are not being neglected.
As for the back squat being simple yes the high bar back squat is a relatively simple lift. The low bar back squat definitely takes more finesse and you usually see power lifters or people competing using it more.
Even the 5:30 PM (EST) segment on ESPNU?

One more reason to dislike the pats.
We can only hope for such class.
Anyone that says that Beamer doesn't have the energy required to be HC anymore needs to watch this video. He crushed the whole day of interviews, hand shakes, and appearances all with a great smile and a bounce in his step. I think he easily sees his contract through at least 2016.
How could a young man not want to play for a coach like Beamer? Down to earth. Hope the future HC is as personable as Beamer.
Yeah... unfortunately, its sounding increasingly likely Logan will be cut in the 75 man roster trimdown prior to the opening of fall camp. Apparently, Phillip Sims has beat him out for 3rd on the depth chart.
I do see your point but I think Beamer is in a different class than many other coaches. Especially after watching the behind the seens video. I can't imagine Saben or many other coaches walking around the studio laughing and asking to take pictures with everybody. That attitude demands a different approach from the interviewers.
For the record, the only reason to use those machines is to regain range of motion of the joint. Once range of motion is regained, then you should start squatting.
I don't doubt some fans are underestimating the atmosphere at Lane, especially since they've never experienced it. OTOH, I think some VT fans are underestimating how often OSU has experienced a similar atmosphere at away (and home) games.
I also think the impact of crowd noise is overrated, a great book that talks about that is Scorecasting. A great read, BTW, as it talks about what 'everyone knows" and how statistics show common knowledge is often wrong. There is a great chapter on a high school football team that never punted and always did onside kicks. A great read, including coaches complaining that what they did 'wasn't fair..."
Correct, and that's dumb. And, I contend it's the reason you have so many ACL tears in the first place. You have players with over built quads and underdeveloped hamstrings. Having stronger hamstrings via low bar back squats is a good way to reduce ACL tears.
There are two reasons why trainers eschew the low bar back squat. First, "trainers" generally rely on the natural genetic ability of their athletes to make them look good and have a poor understanding of how to strength coach. Second, it's simply easier to teach a front squat and it is a low bar back squat.
Poor strength coaching is pervasive in college football.
Reg season losses are now less relevant. Winning your CCG is now clearly the gateway to the playoffs.
Judging from the links, it was one of those Georgia Tech nerds. Probably had to readjust his glasses 4 times while typing it out, too.
I recorded 48 hours of footage (12 hours of ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPNNEWS) and skimmed through it all looking for that segment. Pretty much every channel started talking Tom Brady the whole afternoon.
I don't know but they showed the license number on the tail and it had VT at the end.
So with the RV spots, if you get one you can just park your car in it and bust out a tent?
Why do I suddenly get the feeling that the Lunch Pail will be a significant brand focus going forward.

# | Hokies, Yellow Jackets Readying for Another "Dogfight" at the Top of the ACC Coastal in 2015 Glad to know their losses cut them as much as ours do. Hope we can give em a few more scars this year.
To my knowledge, Brady hasnt been convicted in court of anything yet either
ugh, and it looks like logan is facing some serious adversity in AZ. At least tyrod is looking ok for now....
