As for other teams hitting Florida ( which has what 5 FBS teams) plenty of talent leaves. No state is locked down and won't be locked anymore recruiting doesn't work that way anymore.
Edit: 3 kids from Ohio and 6 from FL.

Agreed. RichRod/Brian Kelly/Gus Malzhan on offense and Bud Foster on defense would be such a killer combination, but I don't want anything to do with RR because of his WVU roots.
If Bud isn't the HC, I'd love Richt, but only if Bud stays on. I could handle a Torrian-shaped HC, too, but I'd think that would be unlikely.

# | Hokies Ready to Host Multitalented "757" Prospects Phillip Patterson, Devon Hunter in Late July While i don't completely disagree with what you are saying, Michael Vick would also be a prime example of why we should continue to focus primarily on in-state talent. If the coaching staff had said "Oh, we missed out on Ronald Curry, we better look out of state for a QB prospect" chances are good that that national standing would also not exist. I do agree that there should be an open mindedness about recruiting on a broader scale, but I think the staff has done a pretty fair job of that too. The players you named from Florida, plus players like Facyson and Bonner (Georgia), Darren Evans (Indiana), Durkin (Ohio), Malleck (NJ) and others show a willingness to look outside the normal circles. Still Virginia is a very fertile recruiting ground, the fact that the Alabamas and OSUs are coming here proves that. In state recruiting is crucial as a power base if nothing else.

# | Hokies Ready to Host Multitalented "757" Prospects Phillip Patterson, Devon Hunter in Late July I'm sorry if this strikes people in the wrong way but, Virginia isn't the end all for football talent.
I have been chanting this for years but Virginia Tech will not be a national contender with out expanding their recruiting reach. I am from NJ and I was recruited quite heavily for my sport but I liked the idea of trying something new and not staying home. Don't get me wrong, Rutgers, and where I am from are basically two different states. In my mind it was still NJ though. Sort of like Blacksburg & NOVA.
It seems as though we are trying are best to obtain the mid atlantic and eastern southern states, with little regard for anything else. I know expanding beyond this region costs more, creates less likely rewards but if you don't win on the main recruit you at least make inroads for the future such as the Florida recruits(Brandon flowers - jayron hosely). I think the staff needs to get out of their comfort zone and start to take chances. I am firm believer in the "no risk no reward" mantra.
If Mike Vick, wasn't from VA, where would VT be in regards to national standing today? I am guessing no where near what it is today.

# | Hokies Ready to Host Multitalented "757" Prospects Phillip Patterson, Devon Hunter in Late July Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. We really don't have room to be losing recruits to Duke. Alabama, FSU, Clemson, Ohio State, and probably now Penn State are more than enough.
It's really upsetting how there is no question that kids in Alabama, Florida, and Ohio are locks to stay in state. Why can't we have that here?
Thought he was coaching somewhere in NY? Just had a kid with health issues that could use some help from Hokie Nation.
13-0 and we are IN. 12-1 with a win in both the opener and the ACC-CG and we are still in the mix.

His context in this statement is forced, as in "so I'm required to list them as a darkhorse contender" and not "look out for these guys, everybody". He even has GT listed higher in his power rating than us (116-111), but he believes that strength of schedule favors us, even if we lose to GT. It would be a rare event for the winner of the VT-GT matchup not to win the Coastal.

Agreed. I think the only way he is out at the end of next year is if there are no OL injuries and our offense still stinks it up.
Too many things are dependent on an O-line with, from all reports, no dependable depth.

That doesn't address wrongness (laws seldom deal strictly with right or wrong) but it does express how the state views the severity of the issue, and keeps us from confusing it with things like statutory rape, etc. And it also places it in the context of the CAP, which guides how VT deals with it.
