Exactly. As I said, when you really consider GoT (the book or the show, either way), there really hasn't been a death that has been truly shocking. People might say Ned Stark, but that had more to do with the fact that Sean Bean was the only well known actor in season 1 really and the marketing material made it seem like he was "the guy".

Shireen - complete throwaway character in the book and pretty much in the show as well, as what we know to this point her death was more or less completely pointless (assuming Brienne did in fact kill Stannis)

Tywin - the set up for his murder at Tyrions hands was well done, although I really wish the show had included the scene where Jaime admits the truth to Tyrion about his wife. He served his purpose, and his death was a device to throw Cersei into the predicament she now finds herself.

Robb - again, he served the point he needed to in the story. Upon his death, do we really feel like some part of the story will now remain unresolved? Is there anything remaining to see how he would have handled it? (Same goes for his mother I guess, at least for the show. Not sure what route the book is going to take with that)

As for Jon, his death now (or as another poster said Dany's death), would just leave us at 'Well WTF was the point of that?".

With that said, I could definitely see him not making it to the final page of the final book alive. I just think there is a lot more for him left to not only deliver a satisfying story, but to remain an example of competent storytelling.

I think Coleman will surprise us this year. Seems to be a lot of heart in him.

It's a (inside) trap

I know he didn't end as a hokie but Xavier boyce is also on that team with randall (and a lot more productive) and he was cleared of all his legal trouble and is doing a great job of parenting his daughter.

But ignoring that, him dying would throw everything into chaos. A full scale war would likely break out between the Watch and the Wildlings while the White Walkers move south. No one is there to stop them and they make their way past the wall and bring winter to the Riverlands and beyond. Dany arrives and fights them and stops fighting between Cersei and the Tyrells. Sam and the Citadel are threatened. Thorne somehow survives, but Tyrion kills him for killing Jon. Jon's death spurns his two favorite siblings and their stagnant storylines into heroic action. And in the books Tormund, who likes Jon, takes over the watch, or Winterfell, or does something reckless. I don't believe any of this will happen, because Jon Snow (or Jon Something) will be back.

Interesting for sure, never thought of that possibility. Leg for you good sir.
