There is a talent gap that can't be closed by coaching, motivation, and the ball bouncing the right way. So, a non power 5 team is not going to beat an elite power 5 team unless something very strange occurs. A team that doesn't show up in the top 50 in recruiting is going to get pounded by a team that regularly shows up in the top 5. But if you are dealing with a smaller talent/quality depth gap, anyone can beat anyone on a given day.
So what you're trying to say is the USWNT is like the Hokies for the first 7 ACC championship games (5 appearances, 3 victories, 2 anomalous years of conspicuous absence)?

BTW all of this discussion is dependent on a hypothetical re-conferencing based on 10 team conferences that exists solely in my head. Every conference gets some crappy teams, many get non-traditional powers. In my scenario, although it could change because there are schools that are on the outside still, best case has the ACC needing a 10th team to join UMD, UVA, VT, WF, UNC, Duke, NCSt., SCAR, and Clemson and the school that fits best is ECU. Of course outside of this unlikely reconstruction, I would never argue for ECU to join the ACC over Big 12 or top flight AAC schools.

You could probably have ended your sentence there.
I was just thinking "If we get that many sacks, what are the chances they'll even have a QB by the end of the game? Does it still count as a sack if they direct snap it to a RB?"
Though to be fair, we racked up 7 against Tom Savage (Pitt) a few years back and he played the whole game. I guess not every sack is Dadi and Ekanem breaking a QB's soul...

The only people who really cares about them are those who live near Greenville or went to ECU. Outside of that, they don't move the needle at all in NC media. Here in Raleigh, at the best of times, when ECU was a team that had its stuff together, they were still relegated to Page 3 in the Sports Section, or footnote on the main page on the website. And when they did pull off a big win (like when they beat UNC a couple years ago), the stories were about how UNC gagged it, and not how good ECU was.
I'm not even joking... if we ever get to a point where ECU is granted admission to the ACC, something had to go seriously wrong with the process.

Yes, OU has a more prolific athletic program, but KU is far better with regards to their academic standing. The ACC uses partnerships in academics for many research efforts, which helps get grants and other funding outside of athletics. Kansas is also an AAU institution, making them a B1G target. Plus, geographically, Kansas is closer. Iowa State is the closest, but nobody wants them. In my perfect world, if the Big XII dissolved, we would take none of them. The entire landscape of college football, and likely most all of college athletics, would need to be redesigned.

I think they feel the same way VT fans feel about ECU- they don't have any feelings at all, just that they're sick of playing them. No one really cares enough about ECU to consider them a rival, though ECU considers all of those teams to be hated rivals.

Agreed, Clarke doesn't have the prototypical Mike linebacker size either. From a football IQ perspective, however, I was incredibly impressed with him last year. It seems he just has a nose for the football and was always flying around and in on the tackle. RVD at 6'4" 220 would be a rangey athletic backer, a la Xavier Adibi. I think Carson has huge potential, but as you point out, he is a true freshman. I definitely have some concerns with the current Mike situation.
Done. I do wish it was Orange though, would love to wear it on Labor day..may just wear it anyway!

But could the ACC be attractive/proactive enough to lure them in? I think aTm would throw a fit if the SEC invited the Longhorns, and I think UT would obviously want to bring along a few other Texas schools. I see Texas going to the Pac 12, but the question is whether or not Oklahoma would move with Texas or go their own way. If the SEC can take Oklahoma and Okie State, I think Texas goes to the Pac 12 along with TCU, Baylor, and Texas Tech to bring them to 16. The B1G should then be looking at the state of Kansas: I think Kansas and KSU are a package deal, and a good one with a huge basketball addition in Kansas and a very good football addition in KSU. At that point, the only choices left for the ACC would be to poach an AAC team or go with WVU. Would that be enough to get ND to go all in?
This is of course a ton of speculation, but if this were to happen, I would love to see the ACC be aggressive and go after Texas. Or could we swoop in and steal PSU from the B1G? I think one of those would be huge along with ND getting fully onboard. WVU fits geographically and from a rivalry perspective, but it doesn't add much value from a revenue/academic perspective. I hope that isn't the scenario the ACC would be stuck with.
I remember DJ Coles taking a screen (or possibly a short route) to the house in a game pre injury and doing it on a crossing route after post injury.
Clarke doesn't have the size either for the mike spot IMO. Carson is the contingency plan but he's a true freshmen and I don't think he'll be strong enough at the point of attack as a true freshmen. If we had Clarke and RVD as our two inside LBs then we had better hope the DL stones everyone or they will be gaining an extra few yards per LB collision.
I'm a little concerned about Moto, but I think his occasional penchant for overrunning his gap or otherwise not playing it correctly is of much more concern than whatever perceived pusillanimity or size issues he supposedly has. Ohio State specifically presents a lot of challenges for inside linebackers with their variety of read option looks and counters off of those looks. If he makes a mistake against them, it may be a TD.
However, while Motuapuaka struggled and CJ Reavis was the star of the spring game, it was Motuapuaka that was earning much of the praise up until that point. By all accounts he had been having a great spring until the spring game. So, obviously, the time that fans got to see him stick in the mind, but I have a little more confidence than if the coaches had been on him all of spring practice.
