Al Groh was a massive splash hire when they got him, and look at how that turned out. He had NFL Head Coaching experience! And then they made the splash with London. He was arguably the hottest name in the lower division when they hired him. He was young and charismatic. The players love him. Look at how emotional he got with big wins, he cares so much for those kids, and it showed with Richmond's National Title....
LOLUVa's problem runs much deeper than head coaches. Sure, they can and will make a splash hire, but unless they do some very serious soul searching and go all in on football throughout the athletic department, its not going to matter. They quite literally have to relearn the wheel football-wise up there, and its something that is going to take a while to fix. Much longer than any of them realize, or are going to be willing to accept.

Of course there was a play against Western Michigan when Mckenzie went through the hole and their best LB came up to make the hit and he literally crumbled when he hit Mckenzie. Shai's momentum stopped for a second, he looked down at him and just continued trucking ala Darren Evan style. I enjoyed watching that play so much cause it reminded of the ol' VT running game.
I had the same experience but replace Mill Mountain with Lake Norman in NC. Saw several small private fireworks shows but the main attraction must have been obscured by trees or something. Never saw it. We were with about 200 other people at that marina who picked a lousy spot. We decided next year we're just going to go back to Christiansburg HS.
