# | Bitter blog - Countdown to the ACC Kickoff, No. 15: Two reliable RBs, plus some Sunday links I think it would really be beneficial two redshirt the two injured backs. We have three really viable options, and maybe more with Reid and some others coming around in fall practice. There is no need to muddle this position like it has the past three years with two backs coming off mid to later season ACL surgeries, one being his second and not being with the team because of a sex charge. The other having some fumbling issues (we lose the Ohio St game if it was determined that the Buckeyes recovered Williams' fumble). There were others as well, I believe on the 2 yard line vs Miami right out of the half that killed any chance we had that night. We cant afford to play a back that isnt 100% or that much better than the rest, that will fumble.
Edmunds would have started last year if healthy, Coleman picked up the slack at the end of the season and McMillian may be the best on the roster.
I like what McKenzie and Williams bring to the table, but think they will help us more in '16 than '15.

One thing's for sure in my mind: While we've had backs that accomplished more than I think any of our current guys alone would (even if one of them got as many carries as RW and DW), we've never been so deep with talent at the position and it IS going to pay off.
My fellow jarheads and I hit the waves early, then met our guide so now we're chasing Marlin with some cold cervesa's waiting on us.

I understand your explanation below, but my experience in Morgantown, and elsewhere to boot, leads me to believe that some of those folks don't belong in a college football stadium, and that the powers that be at WVU seem to take no real steps to stop their rude/crude, and in some cases mean behavior. Hokies aren't the only ones that feel this way, but I'll never set foot in Morgantown again. I think it's more than their academics that holds them back.
Edit. This was supposed to be a reply to VPI up there about the fun WVU fans. Don't know how I got it down here.

In fact I posted a few weeks ago that I think they are going to make a splash hire and get a really big name, and competent coach once Timecop is gone. I say this based on zero evidence or sources. just my feeling. Then again it is Hooville and smart, logical decisions are few and far between when it comes to football. Maybe they'll keep Timecop around for 5 more years.

Miller is who I want to see at QB. As an unbiased observer, Barrett is the best QB of the three. I've heard plenty of excuses about Barrett being new for our game, but here are his stats for the preceding game and next three games:
80%, 226, 2 TD 1 INT
76.7%, 312, 6 TD 1 INT
72.2%, 330, 4 TD, 0 INT
78.3%, 267, 4TD, 0INT
Ours:
31%, 219, 1 TD, 3 INT
Miller is more dangerous for us than Miller, but I really don't want to see Miller at H-back. I don't fear Braxton's arm at all, and we'll have to find a way to stop the run no matter who is back there.
You aren't giving your own offensive weapons enough credit from last year's game. The biggest change will be the o line, second biggest will be quarterback play, then maybe running back or wide receivers.
Actually, if you look at the stats it was a pretty even game offensively. Your D did its job, but until that last interception we were in the game. Given our player's development over the season I'm pretty confident you'll find it much harder this game than last; just as you guys will be a much better team than your final record suggests. You are correct in asserting the front will not be the the only challenge our O will face. The matchup between or WR and your CB's will be fun to watch; and if Miller is healthy I think your line will have a lot harder time against him than you did against JT starting his second game. With Miller / Elliot we will have 2 legitimate running threats for your D to deal with, plus a passing threat as well; things we really didn't have last year when we played, at least not at the level it should be come Labor Day. Our O vs your D will be an interesting matchup.
The way that I heard it went down (and this may not be accurate) was the governor of Virginia placed a phone call to the President of UVA and informed him he needed to do whatever possible to include Va. Tech in the expansion of the ACC. The UVA President then informed John Swofford that UVA would not support any expansion that did not include Va. Tech. So I think our former governor had a bigger say as far as the invite.
Girls! No question when I was there that's what I was enjoying about the place. Then again, I didn't stay long enough to get to know much of the town away from the college scene, it was summer, and it was about 38 years ago.....awww, nevermind.
He did some really great things for this school and for that I am very thankful for his service. However, I felt that he was directly responsible for the complete melt down of our basketball program and he allowed the football program to slip over the last few years. I do not know if it was his diminishing health was behind some of the poor decisions but it seemed like it became a good old boy club where nobody was held responsible (except Bud Foster and his defense). But RIP Mr. Weaver.

It's their money talking that keeps me wary. I worry that one of these days they'll blindly luck into a good coach and he'll have a few good years before the inevitable rot sets in...but perhaps I worry too much, eh? Seems a week doesn't go by that I don't hear someone say something about even the blind squirrel.....

I know a whole bunch of those folks and while they are forced to accept the status quo, they rankle at it. Sure, they make noises like it doesn't matter, but I make those same noises about swimming, tennis, soccer and lax. I've said it before, be it tiddly winks or a rock fight, I don't like losing to those 'hoo?s, and I guarantee you, they don't like losing to us one little bit, regardless of the sport. I have been to their stadium many times and have seen it full, and if they ever get a decent coach in there, we'll see it full again. Hopefully, that day will never come, at least at our expense, but there's a lot of money in C'ville, and a fair share of frustrated football fans.
I hope everyone used enough fireworks to signal him yesterday. George was on a tight schedule after all. He had to head over and help Santa bring Christmas to Iraq too.
I agree, I think Edmunds is a better athlete but McKenzie may have been a better back before 2 ACL's. Hopefully he gets back, but it will be difficult. It is probably Edmunds' rock this year.
