I'm not sure, but I'd be very surprised if the result wasn't better than 10-1. Taking 3 months off and trying to beat one of the best wrestlers in the entire country is challenging to say the least.

No doubt about it depending on how many scholarships he has available. I have to think he will have to weigh the needs versus which of these guys are available as well.
I am actually kind of glad that at least one potential student athlete doesn't feel the need to tweet everything in his life.
I am absolutely LOVING how everyone around the country right now is so completely and utterly butthurt over this hire that they ALL immediately go to the "this is such a bad position... worst program in the ACC."
Worst program? We made one bad hire, and spent 2 seasons struggling. Before that, you'd have a hard time convincing me we weren't a top half of the conference program. Did we pour money into basketball? No, but we finished a few times with that first round bye in the ACC Tournament, we were a home win over Clemson away from winning the regular season in 2007, and we routinely shoved the ball up the bums of top ranked teams both at home and away. What, 3 wins over #1 teams in our first 7 years in the conference? Yeah, thats such a terrible program.
We're a sleeping giant that just awoke. Save and archive all this bitching and moaning over how we don't deserve a coach as good as Buzz. When we're rolling in 3 seasons and making national noise and knocking off the old guard powers in the conference, this current whining will only be that much more sweet to reminisce.
That dude's got a lot of peoples' numbers. Just think what Carter could do with a full season of training.
This might become my go to weekend off season. Can you imagine if they tied this into the Spring Game weekend? I am all about #VTBuzzBBQ #allthemeats
I am not saying I expect him to finish 9th or worse very often. The Big East he finished 9th in had 18 teams. That would be 8th in the current ACC. There is the possibility though that the next few years this is exactly the place we will be. It would be a .500 record in conference and about 18-20 wins total depending on who we schedule OOC. I would anticipate Buzz adding some strong schools to this slate immediately which will make winning OOC harder but get us better visibility as a program. Just saying be prepared to possibly lose a few more games than you may want to the first couple years he is here. Regardless it will be a massive improvement.
Unfortunately that other dude just got his number. Whelp, maybe next year I guess...
I think we'll finish 8th (where we are now). Not sure if anyone below us has a wrestler in the last couple finals matches. 2nd straight top-10 national finish.

Carter lost 10-1 to arguably the best pound-for-pound wrestler in the tournament. Kid wrestled overseas, for the US national team, is now a 3x All-American (with one year of eligibility remaining), just an absolute stud. Still, what Carter did this year, making the NCAA finals after having his hamstring forcefully removed from his pelvis, was absolutely unbelievable.
Heh, when they show Greenberg you see James Johnson holding him back...

Same here. Work meetings require the cell phone on silent if not off. Maybe there was something to the statement he was SOFT.
I don't expect anything over .500 next year and maybe around 17 wins the 2nd year. And I know you love this hire as much as everyone else, but I felt like you were trying to temper expectations for him. My focus is more of what he's going to do in his 6th-7th year and after his next contract/extension.
