Sounds like TT never had a high opinion of Buzz and already disliked him before the hire and was already thinking transfer before the meeting.
I wouldn't put too much stock into the opinion of the kids father who has an agenda to make his son look good coming out of a decision to abandon the program. TT admittinglty already wanted out and now he's blaming Buzz for being mean on why he's leaving? Pffft whatever, thanks for the scholly back and best of luck wherever it is you go.
As a born and raised vegetarian, PETA annoys the hell out of me.
Disagree a bit. The steady givers who graduated in the 60's and 70's gave because they felt pride in VT family. These boomers were 1st gen college grads in their family and VT accepted them with fair grades and low tuition. VT was growing and needed to fill dorms. Thank god most of us are not trying to get in now because we couldn't. We are not the educationally elite that our children have turned out to be. We are the farmers that put bread on the table, the soldiers (who lost Vietnam) and the engineers who put a man on the moon. We give to VTAF and to the Alumni association because we can and feel honored to do it. Is a $100 a yr from every grad from 2000 too much to ask. Hell it's not even a Big Mac a week. The old guard has shown it will carry the water a few more years until you catch up. I don't need an AD to sell me anything. The hell with a winning season, its VT I am proud of.
They're not crazy. You just need to sit down and break some bread with them. Like all people if you reason with them and share something together they can be quite reasonable.

Overkill was my reaction as well, of course we don't know how it really went down at the meeting.
IMO:
Trevor's responsibility: Make sure the damn phone is turned off before the meeting starts.
Buzz's responsibility: Handle team business in team meeting and individual business in individual meetings
General wrestling question: do the weight classes make sense to everybody? To me it seems like 125 should be eliminated and a weight class between 197 and heavyweight introduced. I don't follow wrestling too closely and I wanted to know if there are any thoughts on this.
The first meeting with a new coach is an important meeting. His attention should have been on the meeting.

Seems like a little bit of an overkill to chew out a player during the initial meeting over a cell phone.

# | Bitter blog - Coaches put Hokies through the wringer at early morning conditioning drills now that its a bit lighter/warmer out it can actually be really beautiful, especially on the way back around 6:30, but those 5am walks across the drill field cut right through your soul and you start questioning a LOT of life choices haha.

You've gotta realize that this is PETA we're talking about here. They aren't like most of society, they're crazy people.
Here's my take on this, sorry if this gets too political.
Michael Vick was convicted of a crime, served his time in prison and, as stated above, lost millions in potential revenue. Set aside whether you think the punishment fit the crime for a moment; he served the sentence mandated by our legal system. The prison sentence serves several purposes; keeping a prisoner apart from society for safety reasons, as punishment and to rehabilitate them to rejoin society.
Both that punishment and the impact on his professional career have been severe. Is PETA saying he's not rehabilitated? That the hours he's put into supporting the Humane Society and youth programs mean nothing? What about the thousands of criminals who are released every year who show no remorse and do NOTHING to redeem themselves from their crime? Why aren't we attacking them in a public forum and inciting hatred against them?
If we as a society believe that there is no rehabilitation of criminals, that there is no hope they can integrate back into and contribute to society, then why are we sending people to prison at all? Why don't we just take them behind the courthouse and put a bullet in their head? I'm sure whoever wrote that tweet also put their children up for adoption when they misbehave instead of punishing them and expecting them to learn from their mistakes.

If he would have just put his phone on vibrate, Buzz probably wouldn't have heard it buzzing.
We have 2 open scholarships now, I don't know if I really want Harris but it sounds like he could take one of those. It looks like Sandy Cohen has been recruited by Buzz and 247 was predicting him to Marquette so maybe Buzz can flip him too and get us another 6-5 shooting guard (you can never have too many shooters).

If I was JVZ, I would be ecstatic, because he might be about to become an NBA draft pick by the time he is a senior. Buzz offensively is huge on his big men being the focus. In all but one year at Marquette, the three leading scorers were the Point Guard and the two starting forwards. He expects his Point guard to be able to penetrate into the lane and then distribute or score. He expects his big men to be able to handle the basketball with their backs to the basket and be able to create their own shot down low. This should mean next season that Devin, Joey and C.J. will play major roles unless Buzz brings in a couple of his own guys that change that dynamic.
This was also why I was surprised by Thompson leaving without knowing his boo-hoo sob story of being called soft by Buzz. Cant take getting chewed out for having your phone ring in a team meeting? Don't bring the phone to the team meeting then. My boss would have done the same thing Buzz did because its an unwritten rule in almost any setting these days that phones on silent or off when someone is speaking. Hell its like going to the movies. The Alamo Drafthouse theater has a policy that if someone complains about you and your phone twice, they throw you out, no refund. I am a big fan.

The new AD said he was going to get a big-time coach and this is about as big as you can get, Lang said.
this is huge, and he'll be able to bring in a big man to replace thompson.
To have the conditioning in place to even make it to the finals with a 3 month hiatus is amazing. The kid he wrestled is a buzzsaw, but nothing is more Hokie than Carter coming back next year and keeping him from a 4 peat.
I still can't get over how much Vick gets compared to a certain Steelers QB
Gotta disagree here. I don't wish for the kid to go, but if his reaction to getting his ass chewed for his phone going off in a meeting is quitting then perhaps the issue is with himself. I played sports for years and years. If I quit the first time a coach yelled at me I wouldn't have played more than a month. it's not overkill for any coach to single out a kid and make an example out of him for the right reasons.
Had this been in class most professors would do the same.
It's just that these two have a past, one which left Trevor with a bad taste in his mouth that had him considering his options, and this was the door he was looking for when he heard Buzz was hired. Better it happen in the first meeting then after recruiting wraps up.
