I think that it will take more than last year to get back to a position where our line is going to be opening huge holes. The damage from Newsome cannot be undone in a single year, no matter how great Grimes and now Searles is. That's just my opinion. I do believe it will be better, but I think next year, no matter who the QB is will be about precision short yardage passing foremost.

What would be funny -- and well within the realm of possibility -- is if Brewer comes in and STILL gets beat out by one of Motley or one of the recruits.
That said, I still think this means that Ford and Durkin are all but guaranteed to redshirt.
Looking at the linked spreadsheet, ODU actually ranks as the #8 OL and #123 DL. These sort of stats make me skeptical. The only real way to tell the ability of the line is to sit down and do a season's worth of film analysis. Were they the reason for the play or did someone else make an exceptional play? These sort of stats are something I have trouble trusting. If you did sit down and dissected each play for how many yards the OL pushed for while maintaining a running hole, then I'd pay more attention. That's when you start comparing yards gained by the runner and the line's push. Same can be said for the DL and lost yards.

I challenge you to go find an interview with Loeffler or Beamer where they say anything other than some variation of "Getting the running game going is our #1 priority." I think last year's pass:run ration is about as high as it'll be under Loeffler. We might see it again, but if I was a betting man, I 'd put money on this year being slightly more rush-oriented.

Yeah, not going to want to run him very often at 185 and a previous history of a back issue. I dont necessarily hate that though. I am interested to see how Lefty runs an offense using a balanced traditional run game and passing attack

Clemson is ACCCG only and they still need to get past FSU. I have no real belief that Bud needs a player to tell him anything about defense but having it straight from the horses mouth can help. Hell, Auburn was reading FSU's play signals in the first half of the National Championship.
Regarding offense, I am not totally sure running will be priority #1. I think Lefty want's it to be but I am not sure VT's rushing attack will be on point until 2015. The line struggled to get any kind of push last year and despite having a more veteran line and 2 incoming star RBs, I think 2014 will be a passing attack.

I really cant wait to see how Lefty would run an offense with him. I think assuming he wins the job we are going to get a much quicker than expected view of Lefty's ideal vision of an offense. He is a good candidate to set up a very balanced offense around as one would assume he has less weaknesses that have to be schemed around at this point in his career.
He does both very well. There was one play in a scrimmage last year (either Spring or Fall, I can't remember) where he threw an extremely pretty deep ball that may have been a long TD. He does a great job of putting some air under the ball and letting his guy go get it and seems to have a good feel for when to let it fly so he doesn't overthrow his receiver. That said, he doesn't have Logan's Howitzer attached to his shoulder, but he can still get it out there.

That must have been after his 2012 season as a redshirt freshman. I don't think he played any that year. No game film. The one pass they show has a pretty quick release. His stats from last year (limited action) give me hope. This is a great development.
6'1 185......needs to be Gentryfied in my OP. Good to see some competition though, kid might have game.
