the way i looked at it, there were 6 wild cards going into today. we landed 2/6 of them. far from a disaster IMO. could have been better, sure, but not awful.
also, we offered McKenzie a week ago. landing him would have been nice, but i don't think we should have ever expected it.
if you take the better rating from the main services, we landed 13 4 star players today. I'm good with that.

Well, read a little closer. It looks like CBS gets the first 8 Thursday Night games, plus an additional 2 later in the year, then NFL Network gets the remaining Thursday night games. So NFL Network still has some leverage here.
I can confirm that Searles is a large man. Also, I may have got a glimpse of the WAY to early depth chart for the spring and it includes some interesting things. Alston was starting LG, Benedict was RG, Gibson at RT. Notable backups: Teller at LT, Farris was the backup C, Shuman was 2nd RT, and Pfaff was 3rd RG. Searles really wants to get some big OL into Blacksburg and I get the feeling we'll see a similar shuffling of the OL that Grimes had last offseason.
Something about your avatar just doesn't fit with the word 'disaster' when referring to NSD. A tsunami that kills thousands of people and does $billions in damage is a disaster. Losing a top recruit to the defending Champs is unfortunate, but 'disaster' is far too strong of a word. You're not going to make yourself clear to us by using overly strong words. Repeating those same words with slightly different words around them doesn't make it any more clear.
Leg for taking the time and effort to try and explain your position clearly.
When you put it that way, I can't argue really with it, even if I wouldn't necessarily use the term disaster. But hopefully this class won't be lacking, and we can forget about the lack of positive surprises today.
If they are moving these games is the NFL network going to fold?

As for the 7v7 stuff, I don't know enough to comment on it.

Perhaps my wording isn't very precise here, but I'm only knocking the abuse of the existing system that has allowed for corrupt individuals to set up these pipelines. That action is wrong, as is public trashing/praising of certain programs - that's effectively advertising and mudslinging. Certainly, HS coaches are interviewed and asked about their relationships with schools, but everything there that I have seen (admittedly I don't pay a ton of attention) tends to be a lot of coachspeak without detail until after a kid has signed. Relationships matter, yes, but those are private. Public advertising of one program while trying to shame or defame another is different. Not all these 7-on-7 groups are doing it, but some are and those programs and their representatives are acting inappropriately.

I know nothing about these 7-on-7 teams, but you can't really convince me that these 'coaches' are attempting to take advantage of these kids for money at $5/session.
It seems people are hinting that UVA (the school, the coaches, the boosters, etc.) are paying these 'coaches' in return for their influence. That's a large accusation. If that's the case then they really are the scum of football. But, again playing devil's advocate, if they had a bad experience with our coaches, then who can blame them for guiding kids away from us?
I guess I'm not making myself clear.
I fully expected most of the guys that signed today to sign with VT. Essentially all of the surprises were negative...so I meant that the news that we received on NSD (losing Nnadi, Harrison, McKinzie etc.) = disaster.
Hopefully he can get a little more arm strength out of him over the next few years. We have weapons, just need the ball to get there.

You seem to be conflating certain coaches, who let's be real, may just be assholes, with the entire concept of 7-on-7 and private coaching.
Just because what these guys are doing *may* not be legit, does not mean that the entire concept lack legitimacy and should be dismissed out of hand.
Great balanced class. We got some weapons on offense that we desperately needed. The defense got some big time players and some guys that I think came in under the radar that will be good. I hope to see some of these guys playing in the fall especially at RB and WR. DL is a good possibility as well. Cheers to a great class and beating Nnadi and Harrison in the ACCCG.
13 4* players is a HUGE step in the right direction from the past.
That said, the players we lost out on today would have been upgrades over what we already have and what we're bringing in, at positions of need, which will sting for a while.
