That's probably true, but is it because a player would rather be "the best" by default than have to out-compete other players? Is that enough for him to ignore all losses? "Yeah, we lost, but at least I'm the best guy on this team?"
Is that how Mike London got those 5*'s? "Come here and you'll be my best player as soon as your foot hits campus"?

By that logic all Virginia Tech fans are dumb rednecks, all Cowboys fans have never been to Dallas and all UVA fans hate the taste of beer. Well, maybe the last one is actually right.
Maybe you weren't saying Tomlin should be fired but maybe some other fans were. What if I happened to be friends with the Steelers fans that were? Would it be fair for me to hate the Steelers because of those 5 fans that wanted to fire Tomlin? That's the same logic you are using.
I'm a 25 year old Redskins fan. I have been alive for exactly 7 playoff appearances. I am going to be happy when my team does well. There are so many passive sports fans these days that you only hear from when something good happens. In the age of social media it gets compounded.

Being a good player on a good team is all well and good and gets you noticed, but so does being the best player on a bad team. Actually that would probably get you more attention. The NFL teams don't give a crap how many wins your school got this year, just how many wins you can help them get.
I think the only way the new AD is going to help the basketball team this year, is if he can put a jersey on and get 20 pts/10 rebounds a night.
I have been through Wichita a few times, its still better than the year I spent at Fort Leavenworth as a kid and if he gets treated like he walks on water there, why would he want to leave? Something to be said for "owning" a small U.S. city.

# | Babcock presser at 12:15 today. Will be streamed by Hokie Sports. On the reverse end of that, I really despised when the game was close or it was still early in the 4th quarter and people would try to start that thing up. I just wanted to grab the PA and yell "If they win, we'll look like jackasses. CUT IT OUT!"
So we kept it close then.
I went to a VT basketball game once. The VT basketball team didn't.
Then we realized Green was POY and everyone else on the court just got front row seats to the Green Show.
Looking at how critical some of those plays were drives me insane. We had a legit chance to win that game and to just piss away plays, especially at the goal line, is inexcusable.
No, you can do all of that. It's part of being a fan. But Redskins fans are unrealistic. When the Steelers were 0-4 I wasn't screaming to fire Tomlin, Redskins fans in that situation would have been. When we got to 5-6 (tied for the 6 seed) I wasn't screaming about how great we are. I knew we just weren't a very good team. It's the unrealistic goals every time anything of relevance happens.
I gotcha. It's hard for me not to get a little defensive about my pro sports fandom, haha. Sorry if I came off that way
Good point on the money, but obviously you've never been to Wichita...I doubt it would take more than he's making now to lure him away. But I also agree that there are probably better candidates. Like some of those you mentioned.
By that measure, are we sure that UVA has ever conducted a spring game?
For a day, maybe a week. But then both teams took a turn for the worse, with Tech getting the worse end of that deal.
