This speaks to my disapproval of conference expansion. Right now University leaders see it as a positive to get TV revenue and all the best teams into one conference but with so many teams you can't play everybody in football. The ACC is already seeing the downside with the conferences only marquee football matchups like VT-FSU, VT-CLEM, UM-CLEM not happening every year. Yeah there's still FSU-UM and FSU-CLEM but not only are you not getting big TV games with those other matchups but how can Coastal schools that aren't GT or UM have a legitimate argument to make the playoffs? VT has no chance of making the playoffs without going undefeated and meeting both CLEM and FSU one in the regular season and one in Charlotte. This isn't just an ACC problem, some SEC schools won't face Bama and BIG schools won't face OSU or MICH. It's also bad for basketball where only the Big 12 has a home-and-home schedule so every school gets to host Kansas. The ACC has to create a schedule where every school gets either Duke or UNC, but imagine the revenue for VT if both UNC and Duke came to Cassell. I don't see the merits of super-conferences past the initial TV contracts because of weak football and basketball schedules, plus the travel costs of non-revenue sports. Plus if conference construction means schools can't compete for national titles how do they expect to get booster money?

Those two would certainly lessen the blow, no doubt. Still, with all 3 we have the makings of an elite receiving core.

Yes, the fact that the ESPN staff has been terrible has been posted many, many times. It's quite alright.

Seriously though, it's annoying how they talk about Beamer. You'd think the guy had gone 5-7 and 4-8 his last 2 years instead of 7-6 and 8-5. I'm all for making sure coaches don't hang around longer than they should, and so is Beamer, but he isn't even remotely close to being anywhere near a seat that is even slightly warm.

Also (since it's behind a paywall at 247, I'll keep it brief), we may know more tonight whether or not he'll visit Notre Dame and he's trying to get up to Blacksburg for a visit as well.

Ford's not a back-up for anyone - he's got a standing offer.

It's real - 247 is also reporting it.

25k for Football National Championship is not enough incentive. Let's bump that to 100k and get some real drive!

jk, when the names came out I said Babcock looked like a great hire. I am excited about his excitement and I think he is going to revolutionize HC. I also think we see that indoor practice field get pushed into 5th gear and done very soon.

Here's my rather simplistic plan for gaining additional revenue -

Raise the athletic fee by $100 per student, double the number of Hokies in the HC, ask for reasonable donations from the pros, see if any of the wealthiest Hokies can do more than they are now, and start looking for some major corporate sponsors.

If Whit can achieve some portion of what I've outlined above in his first two years, the Tech Athletic Department will have plenty of cash to take care of a number of pressing financial issues.

Scout reporting that McKenzie has an offer. Yes, I know that Scout probably isn't the most reliable place for recruiting info but I really hope they are right.

I'm a 2013 grad and never knew about HC until people on TKP talked about it. Having just graduated, I am not yet a member/donor but I hope to be soon. Scrolling through this thread, I saw AMB4VT posted in regards to advertising/commercials. I live in the Richmond area and just saw a commercial (embedded below) on TV for one of VCU's alum organizations. It is a bit cheezy but still worlds better than no advertising at all.

and the attrition begins....

Thanks to a hard working Hokie

I'm not basing that on a couple Redskins fans. I'm basing that on the Redskins fans I've grown up with. On the radio people who say the exact same kind of stuff every year on my drive home.

I love Dan Snyder, he's hilariously stupid when you're not a Redskins fan.

UVA has no chance. I don't care what MF is saying. He's just trolling to get page hits and subs. Not a chance he's going there. He wants to win and he knows that he will not win there. He's practically said as much.

Thanks for your dedication and hard work for the football team, TJ. That makes you one hell of a Hokie in my book.

My only criticism is that I think he may have stated that he has "formerly" accepted the Director of Athletics position. Hopefully it was a Freudian slip because he was chuckling at London in his head.

Good luck to him. Hope he finds success outside of football, thank you for your contributions to Hokie Nation TJ!

I know I'm coming across as a bit of an arse here, but its "Hear! Hear!" not "Here! Here!"

I've seen it being used incorrectly a lot around here (and now that I mention it, I've seen 'alot' being used with some frequency as well) and it bothers me.

stepping down from that soap box now
