To be fair, this is also coming from JJ. He needed to spin it that way for perception and recruiting. The reason seems likely, but he also could have decided in April and waited till May as well.

Agree completely on the second paragraph.
I do think SG's last team was much better than the squad this year. Many of the losses were by a single possession and they just could not finish. You can argue about DFS and MH all day, but I think they stay if SG stays. Harrell had to stay, he could not decommit, he had signed a LOI. He would have to sit out a year and a basketball player of his caliber is not going to do that.
I'm hoping he sees VT as an ideal program for him to build and run long-term. We've got a good (but certainly not great) financial status with lots of room to improve. No controversies (fingers crossed that it stays that way) to deal with. He gets to hit the ground running to build up our Athletics Department.

Whit Babcock joined the University of Cincinnati in the middle of the Bearcats football season....Just minutes into his induction speech most of us knew he was the right man for the job. He said all the right things and instituted a specific plan to instill three main values into the Cincinnati athletic department:
1.Commitment to comprehensive excellence
2.Focusing on the student athlete and ensuring they will be a role model to those around them
3.Community engagement
But even though hes been on the job for less than a year, he has made massive changes throughout his department. Babcock brought a breath of fresh air to Cincinnati that his predecessor seemed to have sucked out during his time here.

Ouch, Tulane drops GT for this fall 2 days after the schedule is finalized.
His sister lives in Roanoke and he graduated from JMU if I remember correctly. I think that he should stay awhile assuming he does well which I think he will.
well first hes a local. grew up in harrisonburg, graduated from JMU and then WVU. so that helps. second we're a top ACC school. there's not very many places that are "higher steps" so to speak

My only worry is Babcock has been a lot of places. I hope he can make Blacksburg his home for the future and not use us as a stepping stone.

I don't want somebody that is just looking to trade jobs and up. I want somebody that is going to make Blacksburg his home for a good long time.
Yea, that's probably an advertisement of an NCAA violation right there...
The really encouraging part is that we already have a good coaching staff on the football side. One part of his job is already done.
