Speed isn't necessary when they absolutely cannot bring him down.
I hope the guy becomes a great...but this film is not impressive to me, especially compared to Marshawn or Shai.
My biggest concerns for the offense taking the next step (especially with prospects being shaky for the bowl with Edmunds injured) are:
1) Can the Hokies establish a receiver who can play on the boundary and beat man press coverage?
2) Can the Hokies establish more of a consistent vertical passing attack?
3) Will Ryan Malleck be healthy enough to give a solid blocker at tight end who can also be used in the passing game outside of play action situations?
4) Will Jonathan McLaughlin improve as much between now and next season as he did this past spring? And, will some of the young offensive linemen push supplant current starters to upgrade the athleticism at the position?
5) Who in the blue hell is the quarterback?
Whatever happens on offense, for VT to have a similar record to this season, the offense has to be significantly better in the red zone to offset the losses on defense.
Wow!!!! Powerful!!! Unbelievable!!! haven't seen any running back prospect like him since I started following our recruiting about 5 years ago. Looks like a Bama running back recruit. I have guys at work show me highlights of Bama's recruits here and there. They all look like this. It looks unfair for opponents. I am really really impressed with this recruit. He doesn't quit. Makes the first guy miss. plows through the second and it is up to the third, fourth and fifth guy to work together to bring him down, if they don't then touch down!!! I am excited to see him play.
Although ideal, having complete parity is unrealistic and would make cfb unexciting. Its like the difference of having a 10 team league vs. a 12team league in fantasy football. The talent pool dilutes very quickly. Also smaller schools facilities are limiting. Facilities attract talent etc. At first at least the gap will grow berween the haves and the have nots with the playoffs. As the field grows the gap will close. Go Hokies
What are the head coaching jobs that he'd actually leave Virginia Tech for? I remember when I was in college he said he would "jump through hoops to coach at Clemson". Then in Frank Beamer's book, he said he talked it over with his family and turn down the opportunity to be considered for Pittsburgh...I didn't think UConn was going to cut it.
That's what I was thinking. Some horrible championship games those were.

The concerning thing for me is that the offense really hasn't gotten any better as the season has done along. The receivers aren't dropping every other pass but the line's play tailed off. I was hoping to see them improve throughout the year.

No coach has ever won the MNC at 3 different universities, if I remember correctly. Maybe Saban would like a little slice of history, kind of like Tiger Woods trying to break the Golden Bear's record for winning golf majors. (May it never be so.)
If he goes to Texas and wins the NC, he won't need those 6-7 years. It would be solidified so quickly.
I could live with that. Bama has had their run, time for some parity.

Ironic that if my husband got the job he thought he was going to get, we would have just moved to Fort Bliss and been able to go to the game. Now he's deploying, so I just moved up to Northern Virginia.

Maybe this is just me, but why would Saban really want to leave? Yes, Texas can pay oodles of money, but let's be real, he's already got enough money he can make toilet paper out of it. I feel like considering what he already has at Alabama, Saban will stay another 6 or 7 years, and retire as one of the best coaches the game has seen.
