Collisions among HS football players are significantly different than collisions among high tier college players.
College guys are faster, hit harder and weigh more when they fall on top of each other, than the very diluted field of H.S. athletes.
The difference between college and NFL is the length of time spent in conditioning and the fact that only the top of the cream gets to this level.
NCAA limits the amount of time college athletes can use in professionally supervised conditioning and practice. NFL does not and the teams have MUCH more money, time and stake in making sure their athletes are at the top of physical conditioning.
Half way through this season HCFB was glad for the bye to heal wounds. If NCAA goes to more games than it has right now, it must lift restrictions to strength, conditioning and testing so the athletes can properly protect themselves for the coming season.

Agreed. From coaches I have known in high school and collegiate sports there are those that are tradition coaches and those that are professional coaches. A tradition coach being someone who cares deeply about the place, school and team that he/she coaches in so much as they don't ever want to leave. And a professional, of course, being those that treat it as any other job. They look for challenging positions and want to do them because they have a drive to conquer that particular job/location.
I think the devil... uh... Saban of course is the professional. He's not going to bleed any school colors. He simply wants to prove he's the best. In this case I would definitely see the devil... damn't... Saban moving to Texas. Why not? It's not about Texas being the better recruiter or location or money. It's about doing what Mack Brown and others have failed to do in recent history. Make Texas Texas again and dominate the world of college football.

I have always wondered why Saban has jumped around as much as he has. I don't think it's about the money. He's going to get paid boatloads of cash wherever he goes; he's an outstanding football coach. I have often wondered if he gets bored too easily. He could sit back and continually reload Bama and have them in a position to win just about every year. Or he could go to Texas, build that program up, and likely win a MNC at a third school. If he does end up at Texas, I'd say his motivations are clear - he likes the challenge.
Pretty impressive that he's got the TD record for the area as there have been quite a few exceptional backs from the Peninsula.

Strange that it feels like next season will be a bigger question mark on the Defensive side than on the Offensive, except for the QB. I really expect Leal will go the distance there though, with either Mottley or Hodges as the #2. I also look to see Teller, Smith, Conte, Arkema and Osterloh pushing the current starters for playing time. I could really see the O-line as a strength next season with a year of Grimey training and limited injuries. Add in a bigger, stonger, faster and smarter TE rotation of Malleck, Cline, Redman and maybe Hodges and we could be very solid up front. If I were a VT RB, I would be very optimistic about the next 4 years of running behind the horses that are in the O-line stable.
On Defense, you have to wonder who is going to step up and fill the big shoes left by Edwards and Tyler leaving. The secondary looks stout, but will the new LB's (RVD included) be able to make the lion's share of tackles that Bud's scheme creates for them. Even losing 3 from the D-line, I suspect they will be replaced capably as Baron, Williams, Harley, Nicolas and Ekanem all got significant experience this season, and most looked very capable. Linebackers, that is my big worry for next year. So hoping we land Keihn and Minor, unlike in previous years when we whiffed on lots of highly ranked LB prospects.
