Posted it in the other thread but I'll post it here too:

For as much flack as we've given the guy this season it's really not deserved.

Thank you Mr. Weaver for making VT a premier destination for student athletes! Football tends to be what everyone is drawn to, but I think it's safe to say that all our sports have benefitted from his tenure. Just look at the recent successes:

The football team is nationally relavant and playing for the ACC year in and year out.
Baseball just hosted it's first ever region
Our Women's Soccer team got a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament
Our Wrestling program has quietly become a national power
Track and Field have had tons of success
Softball went to the Women's College World Series and beat/no-hit Team USA
And I'm sure I'm forgetting others.

Seriously, thank you Mr. Weaver for your service to Virginia Tech. Without you I may have never become a Hokie in the first place. I am forever in debt to you for that.

Definitely praying for him - He's witnessed and has been a part of the monumental growth of the VT athletic program and Virginia Tech

I do speak purtier than a $2 whore but, don't call me Shurely.
I was speaking directly to this line here.

But emotions aside, that game stands out in my mind of how a talented, disciplined team will schematically exploit us EVERYTIME.....

Best wishes to him in retirement. VT Athletics had some great moments during his tenure.

An oldie but a goodie: 1990 VT over #17 UVA, 38-13. UVA comes into Blacksburg after losing the #1 ranking to GT the week before and gets utterly trounced by the Hokies. Vaughn Hebron runs toss sweep after toss sweep and cannot be stopped. That was Beamer's first win over UVA at a time when (hard to believe) it seemed impossible to beat UVA or even to compete at their level.

I was a sophmore and had never stormed the field before. I even got to participate in the now extinct joy of tearing down the goalposts. When I tell my kids about tearing down goalposts, it seems to be the most absurd thing in the world to them . It really was in retrospect, but damn was it fun.

So with Weaver leaving, who will be the guy fans blame for all of VT Athletics's sins real or imagined?

Tyrod to Danny vs nebraska in 09. The entire Miami rain game the same year. David wilsons kickoff return for a TD against GT in 2010. God I loved being in the MV's to get to see all that in person

Damn, that's terrible he has to retire due to Parkinsons. Had a friend's father pass away due to Parkinsons when we were in HS, definitely a tough battle to fight. Thoughts and prayers with Jim Weaver.

I was at that game vs. BC - remember Beamer's speech after he was carried by the players. Wasn't this the game with the iconic sunset?

Also was at the Syracuse game that year when we thrashed them 62-0 and the Miami game which was just as epic.

Dad was a Hokie '76, so I've been fortunate enough to have been to games since 1990.

While I understand he may not have the best interpersonal skills, Weaver's done an excellent job for Tech.

I thank him for his service to Tech, and I wish him well in dealing with a terrible disease.

I doubt Cobb is going to be back to full speed at all this year, and James Jones hasn't exactly lit it up since his return.

Also, Boykin seems to be their 3rd stringer's favorite target. For whatever that's worth.

Ah, I did not know about that health issue.
I know that just about the only negative I had for the guy was not 50% his fault and it was the kickoff times (though it did not keep me from whining about him on that issues). Did not know about the Parkinson's.

Well, good wishes to him then. I'm glad I held back on the snide kickoff times here.

No one will argue that the SG firing was handled horribly, but I think we had plateaued under Greenburg. I think there was a major problem with the amount of players transferring out of our program under Greenburg. A lot of former players were quite happy to see SG go...

I don't think we would have fallen to last in the ACC with Greenburg still here, but I don't think we would have ever made it to the big dance either.

Miami 2003 - our ticket number was the 3rd number pulled from the hat, which meant our tickets were on the 1st row behind the band.

That's the last time the goal posts came down, and one of the only times that Main Street was closed off because of the street party.

He's a good guy and all and has done a ton for this program, however he needs to go soon. It has become obvious that he isn't capable of doing his job due to his Parkinson's.

Thank you, Jim Weaver.

When it comes to Virginia Tech getting into the ACC, the lobbying of Bill Goodwin, John Casteen, Mark Warner and Charles Steger would not have mattered if Jim Weaver didn't run his athletic department with such efficiency and if Frank Beamer had not created one of the top 20 college football programs in the country.
