This. If I had to choose an identity for my Hokies, I would choose the smash mouth, blue collar, 'win in the trenches', type of football that Stanford plays. The fast pace offenses are fun to watch, but I just don't think our team or fanbase identifies well with that brand of football. A mistake free, efficient, clock eating, and touchdown scoring ground game, with a lights out defense...that is the combination I am begging to see.

I agree that Kyle has been missed, but think of who takes those minutes. Kendall if Kyle is out (assuming Exum plays no matter which Fuller is on the other side) or Facyson if we are in Nickel. Or Charley Meyer.

That was a great video, thanks for posting.

But I'm not sure I call that "top of the line offense." It was Vick doing his thing. We certainly didn't block many guys for him. We did have one of the best offenses in the country, at 41 ppg. When will we get back there? Maybe never, but I expect by Andrew Ford's 3rd season, we'll be pretty good. Unfortunately, that's pretty far away. Real chance our offense is worse next year with Leal or Ford at QB.

I was watching the Stanford V. Oregon game last night. I think I'd rather have man football that Stanford plays then fast paced up tempo Oregon Offense. I think most of you also agree that Stanford's offense now is what we want to be like. Pound the rock and then play action with pretty simple throws while relying on the Defense to step up and control play.

Just be sure to dial down the bass cause it's drowning out the vocals and speed up the vocals to make it faster a few octaves bro.

I'm right there with you on 0-2 start. At this point, I hope it's a sign for an 0-6 week since I picked Miami.

The problem with thinking about a "top of the line offense" is that it always relies on the players "getting it". We'll never have a top 10 offense as long as Beamer is still coaching because that's not the philosophy of his football team. Could we have a team that puts up close to 400 yards per week? I think we could with the right mix of players and coaching. It seems that in terms of yardage, we've improved over last year, or many years...in terms of scoring we have not. Even some very prolific offensive schemes do poorly when the players don't get it.

Stanford straight punched Oregon in the mouth over and over. I love watching their offense and Gaffney is awesome. On the by and by, Hogan is from McLean, VA. I went to bed when Oregon scored their first TD, figuring that Stanford wasn't going to let up four scores before time ran out, and I didn't want to be going to bed all hyper because of a comeback. Baylor smacked OK around.

But the Redskins lost. 2/3 games last night went for the team I was rooting for.

You didn't miss much. Fox is a disaster at broadcasting college.

Baylor won, BTW

I don't know if we've ever had a "top-of-the-line" offense here at tech. Most of our offenses have relied on talented quarterbacks and tailbacks in a non-explosive offensive scheme. As a result, we usually only have had a mediocre offense, that is only slightly above mediocre when we have amazing talent at those two positions. Loeffler is trying to change that by shifting our style to one that is more sound schematically, but so far we haven't had much success. We just have to put some faith in Beamer that he made the right offensive coach hires, and hope that the issues with the offense this year is caused by things other than the coaches.

Kyle's combination of coverage, run D support, and open field tackling ability make him invaluable. I consider him one of the 2 or 3 most important players on our elite D and think his absence was a significant, overlooked factor in the BC loss. I think Byrn will definitely be missed as a steady route-running WR with a knack for getting open (sound familiar ?), but Stanford, Kline, and maybe the RB's will be targeted more in his place.

Probably the immediate impact he seems to have had. At least that's my reasoning. He's already pulling in solid o-line recruits -- A really nice change-up from trying to change TEs into linemen

In this scenario would Bud stay on as a DC if the "good OC" became the new HC? Because I could definitely dig having an offensive mastermind at the helm AND having Bud still control the Hokie defense.
