i think everyone knows what the error was. i read the question to be about the corrective action. what specifically would all the arm chair coaches do to "hold Logan accountable"? bench him? take away his twitter account until he goes two games without a turnover? make him sleep in the same room as his receivers?
Well, unlike a couple of the other threads that went up over the weekend, this one asks some prudent questions, and presents a logical opinion.
The fact is this: Loeffler decided in January to build an offense around, and invest 100% in, Logan Thomas. He probably drooled over his measurables, and, like most other QB coaches, thought he could smooth out the wrinkles in his game. Logan has gotten better, but he still makes too many mistakes, ones that are costly. However, credit where it's due, Logan's been essential in winning these conference games. If you swap Logan out with Leal, I'm not confident we beat UNC, Pitt, or GT.
I do agree with you on one point, no ones job on a football team should be safe. Competition creates excellence. However, unlike past years under Beamer, it appears the staff is much more willing to open up starting spots each week during practice.
Circling back, Loeffler tied himself to Thomas in January, and I don't think a change is in the best interest of the team. At this point of the season, it would be entirely counterproductive to remove the centerpiece of which the offense was designed around.
Matt Jones? Converted to WR in the league, I think for Jacksonville.
Actually, we need to beat them, win out, and hope DUKE loses another game. But I'm sure that is what you meant to say, right? Either that or you where in a medically induced coma, missed the Miami-FSU game, and have no idea how conference standing work
Me too. That and can we all post in one place? I think they're serious.
We're an engineering school. 1) Engineering. 2) School. (Not necessarily in order of importance)
Hokieshibe mentions one potential improvement above: Better cell service. No one should be in the stadium wondering where their signal is. Even better, make a free in-stadium broadcast signal over stadium wifi so you can tune into any radio/television announcer that is being broadcast live.
Another idea regarding replay, one I partly mentioned in another thread: since we are such a tech school, we need to revolutionize the replay experience. We should have our own fleet of permanently mounted 3D cameras around the stadium so that no play can't be accurately called with a replay. Even better, on the in-stadium wifi, show all the camera angles for all the plays so after a hard-to-see play you can choose to broadcast replays on your phone. Even better, give you a tiled view of all the replay angles and let you chose which angle you want to see.
Next, another digital thing, since we are a school, we should make a deal with Amazon/Google Scholar/JSTOR/Elsevier so that we can distribute scholarly articles from technical journals free to stadium visitors (I dunno, put a QR code on the ticket you can scan to get free articles over stadium wifi stored to your phone, with some max of like 10 per QR code per game or something). Engineering. Science. Education. Research.
I'd say that the error on the pick 6 was in not just eating the sack and putting an All-ACC caliber punter on the field to change the field position on make BC drive against the D, something they had only done once up to that point in the game. In a tie game on the road, regardless of opponent, you need to be smarter. The throw looked to be meant for a RB screen coming out of the backfield in traffic, not exactly a back-shoulder fade where only the WR has a chance to grab it. I assume your question was rhetorical, but thought I'd respond anyway.
For the record if we were 0-9 i'm not sure ppl would care much for WHY he threw 4 ints against duke.
It's a game.
I guess it's the same reason u teach us game film every third day. I'm expressing how I feel about the situation while aware I have no impact on Beamer's decision making process...none of us do, yet the site exists and opinions are expressed.
How 'bout them apples? Mike Burnop
And VT's record when he throws a pick?
Ask Tom Coughlin about David Wilson
I am just shaking my head. How exactly is he not being held accountable? He is taking copious amounts of verbal abuse from the fan base. Every mistake he makes is under a microscope in the fishbowl of Blacksburg. What is it that you are wanting to accomplish? Do you think if you write that he played terrible enough that he will read your sage-like wisdom, have a light bulb pop open over his head, and suddenly turn into John Elway? Or, do you think that if enough people agree with you that Frank Beamer will suddenly decide to bench him? I don't understand how anyone on this site, or outside of the locker room for that matter in Hokie Nation, needs to open their eyes because Logan hasn't done anything to deserve a pass for his two-game stretch of troubles.
What would satisfy you? Tell us, specifically, what corrective action should take place? What has to happen for Logan "to satisfactorily be held accountable?"
I write my column primarily because I was sick and tired of people throwing kids under the bus when they had no clue why a play was successful or not. In the process, I have been critical of plenty of players, but at least I point out that the flaws are with execution not character. The level of vitriol directed towards Logan has reached the point.
Please, tell us what is his primary mistake on the pick six returned by Pierre-Louis. Tell us specifically what he did wrong. Enlighten us. Please.
Is it really a good idea to take out a senior, experienced play-maker, and team leader with the conference title on the line - AND a ranked rivalry away game in Miami coming up on Saturday? Let's just take a deep breath and relax, and see how this game goes...
What's weird is those screens actually work for other teams
Can he seal the edge? We may as we'll take all those post players and see if they can play TE. Playing on the hoops team won't be particularly fruitful for many years.
Since I will be at a wedding this weekend, missing VT/Miami and Alabama/LSU, I'm getting hyped for Thursday night's Baylor/Oklahoma and Stanford/Oregon
Who coached Tyrod?
Here, here. I hope Joshua Stanford is the next guy we look at when we talk about faces of the program.
LT3 accounts for (literally) 75% of our offense - I don't think benching that is a good idea.
429 yds total offense (edit because sam rogers said so) ...

And while we are on the subject, can we stop with the slow developing bubble screens? They are like our latteral running game: slow to develop and don't usually net any gains (the one Willie broke aside).
Looks a little Stiney out there sometimes. Just sayin
He actually had 429 if you count the rushing yards.
That team had Tyrod, Evans, Williams, and Wilson, Boyd, Coale...see anyone on this squad that looks like any of those guys?

I'd rather play in the OB and take my chances, then root for FSU to have a good showing in a BCS game. What is this, the SEC?
