Ask Miami. They apparently figured out a way to do it and get off.
Could not agree more on being glad the next two games are away. The last two home games I've had people behind me that would chant criminal whenever Cody came on to kick and then against Duke, people were giving up and talking about leaving early basically at halftime. I sit in a section that isn't all that far from the VT bench and other sports including Basketball have their recruits in or near that section. Do you really want those types of fans being the ones the recruits see and hear? I know I don't and I can't stand when people act that way towards 'their' team. If you don't like the team, don't show up or pick another team to root for.
Easy call or not, it seemed that he waited until after the play was dead to make the call. Maybe I just missed the flag entirely, but it didn't seem that he threw it when it should have been thrown which is right at the snap. Instead it appeared to be a flag that was thrown after the play and thus most of the fans will see it as a bogus call that cheated us.
I noticed the outside leverage as well, and my best guess is that he's supposed to be playing outside leverage and anticipating safety help over the top/inside.
That last sentence wins.
They're "The Best Damn Band In The Land" for a reason. They also put in a LOT of time and effort, moreso than the MV's for those wondering why we don't have crazy music and formations like this
Where do boats and hos fit into the entertainment expenses? I would be rather entertained with a few boats and a ho. Or a few hos and a boat.
I agree, their TD was aided by one PI call that looked legit and another that was bogus. It should have been at the least a tied game going into OT as you say.
As much as I can't stand Ron Cherry, DJ Coles was moving towards the line without stopping. It was an easy call. Some of the non-calls on PI against both DJ and Demtri were questionable though.
I'm not saying there was a drop off. We lost because of offense, not defense. What I was getting at is, J.R. is a better player this year than Ekanem (he is just young and will get better) and Wilson (way undersized for a DE). The D played the best it could, but when you rotate the linemen like we do, it is nice to have someone like J.R. in the lineup.
I know that when we were in high school, Lalich would bring back dozens of UVA shirts, hats, sweatbands, pairs of gloves, etc. from the coaches every time he visited and give them out to our team (who wore orange and blue).
And then he was a huge bust and it was funny.
One thought. I know several folks may be wondering why I selected one play on defense when the defense held Duke to their worst output in years. Well, I didn't think they played a terrific game. Fuller and Dadi's interceptions covered up some breakdowns. They did not generate a huge amount of pass rush, and while the defensive backs played well in coverage, Duke broke some big chunk plays because the defensive backs could not shake blockers.
Chuck Clark has been an ace on special teams all season, but his missed tackle on the Shaq Powell screen ended up being another huge play. He missed the tackle in the right flat, and the other DB's were in man and had their back to the play. Powell ended up breaking some tackles, and ultimately set up the Martin field goal that proved to be the difference. Several times, a few inches cost the Hokies dearly. And, Ken Ekanem was forced to play because of Collins screw-up, and he got sucked inside on the Boone TD run.
Offensive execution is the reason that the Hokies didn't win by a score of 21-13 or more. Those defensive breakdowns at critical moments, even though they were few and far between, had as much to do with the game being a loss as missed kicks and poor throws. With how poorly Duke executed on offense, it should have been at worst a tie game going to overtime.
LT's number of INTs could have been much worse - he threw into double- and triple-team coverage so often that I lost count.
Is he a good fit for Foster's scheme or would he need a lot of extra coaching?
up vote for asshats - is that ass-hats or as-shats?
I am feeling good. I was at Myrtle Beach, Saturday. had the choice to watch the game, or go out on the beach and monitor the game on my phone. I had a bad feeling coming into the game ... the offense was not doing it, and I was worried. So I went to the beach. A wise decision. At least I had some fun and sun as consolation for such a miserable effort.
It is definitely one of the best in the country.
We're at Virginia Tech. We CAN do that!
I've found 11 to be pretty good since Adibi. Dyrell wasn't bad until his senior year and now I have Kendall for the next 2 -3 years.
Settle would be a huge get for the Hokies. I watched him play in Stonewall's home opener, and he was un-blockable at nose tackle.
Don't feel too bad. On numerous occasions the defense DID deliver and the offense squandered opportunities (Re: first and ten on the Duke 45 after a pick, no points...) Even if the Defense did stop Duke on the 4th and 1, there is no reason to believe the offense would not have squandered yet another opportunity.
In case you didn't see it, there's this analysis that ZachMariner put together that answers some of your questions: Logan Thomas, his receivers and catch efficiency
I have noticed a number of things about open dates: Until three years ago or so, the Hokies lost the football game following the open date. I thought the Beamer and the coaches had changed their schedules so that distractions like speaking for city touchdown clubs had been eliminated. Does anyone have a schedule for the coaches over the open date period?
Logan Thomas likes those shallow crossing patterns over the middle or on the edge. Duke took those away all day. Linebackers were bumping the receivers going across the middle disrupting their patterns and timing. Duke specifically focused on those, often leaving other players open because Logan likes those routes so much. This is a case of good defensive coaching. It seems that this rattled Logan and frustrated him more than a little. One time a pass interference call was made on a dump pass to Edmunds over the middle, but these denials of these patterns worked.
is it just me or has misdirection gone missing?
I really appreciate his praise. One of the great benefits of being a Virginia Tech fan is that all the beat writers covering the team do really outstanding work. They relay the coach speak that most beats do, but they focus much more on the critical issues impacting the team instead of "what the PR staff is sharing with us today" human interest fluff that you see in many markets. It has made the staff much better at delivering interviews as well. The comments we have heard this year from the coaches have generally been much more insightful than a couple of years ago, and that is because this group of writers does a terrific job of structuring lines of questioning.

We all know what fans see and what the truth is can differ.
The point is it was a good call regardless of when the flag was thrown. If you want to pick at something then I'd say the PI on KJ or the non-calls on DJ and Knowles as well as the block in backs are more pickable.
At the end of the day, Ron didn't throw a pick on the next play, nor missed 2 FGs. The O laid an egg and how we've played all year finally caught up to us. Hopefully they can learn from it.
