Just got this email from professor Carroll, looks like the west side of the mountains actually did get some snow... I compared that with some averages in the past to discover that. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/jkl/?n=first_snow (could only find these scattered locations butttt...meh close enough) fact of the matter is...this is really early snowfall
The WV highlands did indeed get their dose of snowfall, with Snowshoe reporting 3" this a.m. and still coming down. Similar amounts northward thru Canaan Valley as well. The high country of NC was spared this round of October snowfall. I poked around at Mtn Lake earlier today, and the snow line there was about 3500': the top around the lodge was snow covered and very wintry...wish I had time to take a hike up to Bald Knob on the summit!
