You aren't totally wrong about UVA making VT a stronger program. VT's recruiting tailed off during the end of the Groh era when UVA was no longer a factor. Once London came in and UVA started getting players VT would normally expect to get, Beamer shook up his coaching staff and brought in Shane and Cornell Brown to improve the class. This also led to 38-0, which was awesome. Iron sharpens iron, as they say. Beating UVA will always be a goal, and the better UVA is, the better VT has to be.

Not quite on topic, but what ever happened to TKP podcast that was done last year? Those were really enjoyable to listen to.
Michigan has their 2 rivals, tOSU and MSU. But they are also recruiting in a different pool than we do.
And generally, in the "area" there aren't any schools that are competitive on a yearly basis. Nobody from neighboring states, or even bordering them. Not UVA, anyone from NC, WV, MD, Tenn, Del, even PA. So Virginia recruits can "stay home and play for us, after 2 years of waiting on the upper classmen." (generally) Or go elsewhere, and play immediately. Honestly, I don't think LOLUVa will EVER get to a level to help out us in the recruiting race. Sadly, we are in that boat alone. The best recruiting tool we have right now are the Freshman that are playing and performing on the field!

I think we can all agree too much has to happen RIGHT NOW. And it is ridiculously too early to speculate our chances of getting into the conversation assuming we win out. But with all that being said, there is a lot of football left and chaos is always a possibility. (i.e. 2007) Love this post, I know every week when I watch teams ahead of tech in line to be "considered" this kind of talk I tend to always pull against them.

If a similar pot of money is still split the same way, the schools are still receiving their share.
Plus, fewer bowls means less teams shelling out hundred of thousands in logistical $$$ to go to the bowl.
And yes, higher ticket prices will drive away some fans, but fewer bowls would make it a more "exclusive" trip. I would rather go to New Orleans every three years to a bowl than Nashville, then Atlanta, then San Fran.
Exactly. ESPN hypes the SEC like none other. Georgia looked like DAWG shit for a few games before they lost to Mizzu, but a game like last night will definitely hurt the ACC image.
The SEC is top heavy, and it looks like the ACC is getting top heavy which will help us in the long run. We have at least 3 teams that could make it to the title game this year, which is way different then the years past.
