Our identity is to create mismatches and put our guys in the best situation to succeed, whether it's through the air or on the ground. Look what we did against ECU, we made adjustments and won the game.

I understand your concern about our RBs but they weren't 100%. Trey is still dealing with a hip injury and JC is recovering from a high ankle sprain. Our only two 'healthy' backs are Chris Mangus and an extremely raw Joel Caleb. If they can't make plays, then you have to adjust to what the defense gives you.

I am struggling to contain my disappointment that Facyson is being replaced with Exum because A) Facyson is my favorite and got serious mancrush on him, and B) as been said a million of times, Facyson is playing beyond his years in an oustanding tandem with Kendall Fuller, and C) Exum may have rust that needs to be knocked off before he returns to the level he played in the bowl game.

Gray has already proven times and times again that he knows what he is doing, and this is the one time I cannot doubt him.

I'm starting to become concerned that this will happen to my head with all the football knowledge I'm gaining:

Ok when I do this it just shows a blank box with an X in the middle. I copied the embedded link. I hate computers. :(

I get the sentiment of the kid's argument- You're paying a bunch of money to get a great education and that should be the focus of an academic institution, not a football game. At the same time, professors should be privy to the type of environment that students will have to study through if you schedule problem sets/exams/projects either on that Thursday or Friday.

I'm not saying it's impossible to study through the environment the student described, rather professors should at least be sensitive enough to work around the schedule. It's not end of the world if students have to take an exam a class earlier or a class later than anticipated.

During my sophomore year of college, my professor scheduled an exam the day after the DMB concert in Lane Stadium. Instead of being a jackass about it, she just moved the exam to the following Monday. I don't see why this is such a big deal for professors.

I realize that Gray made these comments a couple of weeks ago. If Exum is at the level he was for the Rutgers game last season, he is still only the third best Hokie corner from a pure coverage standpoint. Of course, Kyle Fuller is the fourth best coverage guy, but he brings so many other strengths to the table. And, moving or Fuller to free safety messes up the communication and chemistry that has been so outstanding on the field side between Bonner, Kendall, and Facyson.

This is a really tough choice to make by the coaching staff. Nobody should lose a job regarding an injury, but you have to get your best guys on the field. Facyson and Kendall may be freshmen, but they are as good a coverage tandem as you can find in the ACC right now.

I kind of get the feeling that Loeffler is working towards a desired offensive identity that might be described as sort of a rolling ball of butcher knives. So far we've shown that we can beat the other team with our QB's feet, and by passing, both from multiple formations. We did a decent job of running the football in the Bama game, so that's on film too. Agree with French that the different looks have to make opposing DC's crazy.

So far, it seems that Loeffler is very willing to search for the soft underbelly of our opponent and keep jabbing at it. This is fantastic, especially when compared to last year's offense (see: Wide receiver screen). It seems like each week we have attacked our opponent in a different way, because they have different weaknesses. Wow, what a concept! The biggest problems that I think we have faced are inexperience in the system (everybody), WR play (thank goodness for the JUGS machine and Moorehead) and injuries. I think everyone is just starting to get comfortable in the system. Drops early on set us back, but that seems to be getting better. Malleck's injury has had a huge impact and it couldn't have come at a worse time, right before Alabama. Edmunds has been dinged up, Coleman is just now getting back up to speed. Attrition has had an impact, but as always, next man up. I think the O has a much higher upside than down. Further effort is required, though. Improve everyday, and I think we'll see an impressive offense in the ACCCG.

I don't know what the timeline is for Exum to begin playing in games again, but I personally can't wrap my mind around taking Facyson out of the picture with what he is bringing to our defense right now. Although I will state that having this many excellent DBs is a fantastic problem to have.

Unfortunately I had a test from 8-10:30 during the Thursday night game.... We requested to have it moved in the first week of classes, no dice.

It also took the entire 2 1/2 hours to take the dang test, so I just caught the last play on ESPN'S gamecast walking out and started yelling when we got the interception to seal it...then watched the entire replay.

But I STILL LOVE Thursday night football!

When I try to get to basics you tell me I'm being condescending. Sorry for it, wasn't trying to be but, apparently communications via internet sound bite can be implied one way and inferred another. But if you'll check through the thread, it was a little bit more than 1 way here. You guys laid a pretty heavy layer of condescension on me, with enough of you doing it that I was beginning to feel a bit like Sims last Thursday.

So, between this and the news that Weaver did request A specific day and time of some games, I am correct. Weaver does have some influence on the game times. If he did not, there would be no avenue for the request.

Therefore, I can lay blame on the AD where even if he does not have the final say, his power of persuasion, at the very least, could hold sway.

It is you guys, telling me he has no power.

What was it my prof used to say?
Convince, connive, construct and contract. Those are the ways in which you get what you want. Weaver could use all those tools for a better start time. He's not a powerless pawn of the networks.

Can we cite this as the creation of new terminology?

Stiencainian: (adj.) derogatory term denoting a type of offense in American football, primarily one that ignores common offensive structure. syn: simplistic

I am actually really worried about the offense...
Can someone reassure me? Why do we look like such a different O every week? Isn't that the opposite of an identity?

How is it ok that we had so few yards from our running backs against GT? I want Logan to not have to do all the work...

I had a test the day of the Maryland thursday night game. Went to the exam, finished around 4, walked out of the room and right to the parking lots. Most professors are real people (or just want to avoid campus traffic on gameday) and reschedule accordingly.

Sometimes it's not feasible to reschedule a class. The lab I TA'd had two sections, both at the same time: either M/W or Tu/Th. Fortunately we never had to deal with this issue, but I'm sure that we wouldn't have offered a rescheduled time for class.
