I read more into that and it seems that the NFL is doing it to prevent law suits. There are several helmets, ie. VSR4, that are discontinued and better models are out--the Speeds...Some NFL players are stuck in traditions and want to stick with the older models which many teams have a ton in stock. The downside is their stock is usually in the base-shell color so the only way you can change the helmets is the logos and striping but not the colors.
If you change the base color, you have to go to the manufacturer to get a helmet made and thus the discontinued models are not eligible. Players are apt to say they received their concussion in a brand new helmet, thus a law suit suggesting helmet switching is bad. The NFL is only doing this to protect themselves. With today's technology, the break in phases of most items have been significantly reduced or eliminated all together.
I'm really hoping we are saving that wrinkle for acc play or where the competition lends itself to that. But I have a feeling this offense isn't capable of that. The O-line is better but not good enough to consistently give LT the time to do a 5-7 step drop back, scan and throw. I could be wrong, and I hope I am...but that is how I see it.
I'm there with you horse. I'm embarrased to say I have no idea how I did without the spread, but definitely pulled a full Kiffin or maybe even a Full Brown (may be too soon since they were able to win last week) this week with a supersweet 1-5 against the spread...
Really bummed about this. Making my 2nd return to Blacksburg from Philly since graduating for the UNC game , first return was the GT game last year so that game and atmosphere was obviously awesome. This year I'm bringing my JMU alum gf for her first Tech game and FIRST TAILGATE of any kind ever. Wanted to get her hooked out the amazing atmosphere but I know a nooner simply can't hold a candle to a 3:30 or a night game. Dern ACC Network.

I do find it very interesting that the NFL is not allowing throwbacks this season because of their new stance on helmets; that players must use the same shell the entire year (as long as possible.) Thus, ruling out different helmets during the year. This is contrary to the Oregon-ization of NCAA football, which we are following. On top of VT providing an in depth study of helmets just last season.
Do we, VT, have it right in utilizing a new helmet each week? Or should the same one be used the entire year, NFL, because you know it is fitted to the player wearing it?
At this rate we might end up changing uniforms at halftime.
Wait, I think we've done that before on a Thursday night game at GT.
Meh.
IF, I repeat IF, we were to wear these, I would prefer to wear them against Duke. (The other school that owns their own quarry...)
