I just spent way too much time looking at every pass play from the game on Dozer's video, by my count the incompletions break down as follows:

10.5 on Receivers:

  • 8.5 drops (the ball that hit Knowles in the face mask was under thrown, Knowles had a step on the defender but had to slow down to try and catch the ball, still think it should have been caught)
  • 1 receiver fell down
  • 1 quit on a route

6.5 Incompletions on bad throws from Logan
2 Throwaways
1 Incompletion from a near sack: Logan was hit mid throw on a check down to Edmunds
1 that I wasn't sure about from the video, 1st pass of game, either a drop by Coles or knocked away by LB in coverage.
All 26 passes are listed below along with where in the video they are, any disagreements on which are/aren't drops.

Pass # --Timestamp --Player Targeted --Result
1 --0:19-0:25 --18 - Coles --Batted away by LB or Dropped by reciever?
2 --1:08-1:15 --80 - Knowles --Caught in flat, 1 yd past LoS, looses 1 yd before contact, no net gain
3 --1:34-1:42 --18 - Coles --Caught 34 yd Gain
4 --1:43-1:52 --81 - Perez-Means --Thrown Away under pressure in Perez Means Direction

8 --6:43-6:52 --18 Coles --Receiver quits on route, Pick 6

11 --8:20-8:25 --18 Coles --Overthrown on 3rd and 1 roll out.
12 --9:13-9:21 --14 Edmunds --Complete for 6 yd gain, ball thrown high, good job going up for catch
13 --9:57-10:04 --80 - Knowles --Corner Route underthrown, Knowles does good job preventing Interception.

15 --13:17-13:22 --Not sure of target --Thrown into ground

17 --14:08-14:15 --80 - Knowles --Dropped, slightly underthrown, Knowles has to slow down to catch ball, hits Knowles in facemask, coverage is tight but should be caught.

vs this

It is impossible not to read this without smiling from ear to ear. God I could watch those defensive highlights all day. I know we can rave about everyone, but watch Gayle's hands on the second to last clip. Collins beats his guy and Gayle's right there with him, flying off the edge.

1 plus for the VT All Access meme. That was what made the biggest impression of the program, to me. I know lots of folk are going to question AM's coaching ability after 8/31, but having a coach that is that energetic as well as difficult will pay big dividends. Just watch. This game was the barometer for our receiving core. They will surprise a lot of hokie fans.

Yep, they're too busy trying to score Zima to score 3 points.

17 points? That's more than they scored against us in the past two years combined.

3 points man? You have to remember this is UVA Football...

They Interviewed her on the Herd....I couldn't stand her voice....And I have been saying they were back for 10 years now

After seeing BYU picking up first downs pretty easily passing to their backs, I think it's going to be more than a long day for the french.........

Yeah I can agree with this. When I said I don't like LT running the option, I didn't mean for it to sounds like he made the wrong decision. When I saw him pitch the ball on that first play my immediate thought was "hell yeah big gain", only to be disappointed when Coles ran straight for the sideline. I meant that comment to mean that I think the option is at its most effective when you have agile QB's running it. Logan is not agile. Cam Newton was agile and his cutting ability combined with his size made him damn near unstoppable. Logan is at his best when he can get some momentum and lower the boom, which is more difficult when his initial movements are to the sideline.

LOL at horseonatreadmill.

While I would have preferred the first down...I didn't mind the pass call on 3rd and 1 since Alabama was stacking the box. Just unfortunate that the Oline botched the blocking so Logan had to roll and throw away. But 2nd or 3rd and 1 is a good time to attack the defense and put some quick points up.

Close... I listened to the podcast. Essentially, Barre and Maisel said let's not read into one game and Alabama will be fine. Maisel did give Foster credit on the podcast, but did not suggest to any notion that VT was indeed the better defensive team. Barre, only had this to say about VT (and specifically Logan Thomas): "I would bring up and talk about Logan Thomas right now, but I heard he just threw another incompletion."

I think it's safe to say, any national recognition in the media will not come unless Miami and VT meet with 1 loss or fewer. Then maybe, they'll get a blurb about how this will impact the weak Coastal Division in the ACC. If this doesn't happen, then VT will only be mentioned if they make the ACC championship game, but it'll probably be more about FSU/Clemson than VT... But, I digress. Just keep winning boys and win the Orange Bowl.
