New purpose: Payback Clemson or Bust. We can't let Tajh leave the FBS undefeated against us.

Edit: Adding to this, nothing would make me happier than to face an undefeated Clemson in Charlotte, and denying them the big prize of a trip to Pasadena.

I'm quite encouraged with the O-line. Limited Bama to one sack on LT3, Bama brought some pressure with blitzes and most seemed to be picked up pretty well. Run blocking seemed to be serviceable at worst and pretty good at best. We got good push and seemed to open some nice holes. Tempered with the knowledge that this was against one of the best defensive units in the country, this is a positive takeaway.

LT3's stat lines won't tell the story on this one...I kept screaming "Just catch the ball!" so much my wife told me to stop talking to the TV. I'm sure French will analyze the drops and give us a count. With help from the WR's, this is a very different game. Overall, I was encouraged by the majority of Logan's game. Still some head-scratching decisions, but there weren't a boatload of those.

With the number of injuries and departures, we're playing lots of wet-behind-the-ears freshmen on special teams. I think CFB has to consider playing more starters, especially when the ACC schedule starts.

The defense....wow! These guys stay healthy, I think we have a top 5 defense. Impressive night. And this is without RVD and Exum!

While I'm bummed that we didn't play better, Bama had 21 points off of special teams play+interception return. Adjust the score for this, and you're looking at a 14-10 game. We have work to do, but there are encouraging signs, indeed!

Trey is a beast and I have not seen such a good Hokie D since 2007. Moorehead's tweet gives me hope that the young receivers can be coached up and will be better as the season goes along and it seems like Grimes has the O-line working as a cohesive unit. I'm wondering whats up with Loeffler's game plan has he always run alot of shotgun?

From what I saw tonight, we're fine with Bud and Charlie Wiles. Still, I hope to see big things out of the Spawn of Bruce: Alston.

I hope to see Logan reach the dizzying heights of completing 40% of his passes against WCU.

I saw that guy and at quick glance thought the guy behind him to the right was Dave Chapelle.

Let's go!

I seriously was terrified when Kyle went down early on. Then was elated when he reengaged in spectacular fashion. Kendall Fuller and Facyson are the real deal. Hot damn, the LB Corps are gritty. The Line is nasty. This is what we demand every year, from a Bud Foster-coached unit.

I pity WCU. If this team can do what I believe they are capable of (meaning they carry the defensive momentum from tonight onward), then I really pity those poor SOBs out of Western Carolina. Trey Edmunds is something miraculous. I hope our focal point of anger & purpose extends all the way to Charlotte, and then some.

Not sure about Bruce, but we always have lacked bringing in those top recruits. We develop our three stars, but obviously those three stars haven't won us BCS bowls or a title. To take the next step, we need top-tier talent.

Fine. Not going to argue. My thinking is that the Bama play calling may not have been so conservative without the 21 points that their D and special teams provided. So the stats may have been a little different.

Damn you Christion Jones.

Gah!! The 3rd and 1 roll out!

I made sure the entire bar understood how bad that play call was.

1) The offensive play calling left me... confused... and unhappy... to say the least.

2) While it's unfair to say the D shut down Alabama (since the Bama O had a 21 point cushion) it definitely looked good tonight.

3) While LT may never again be the QB he was in 2011, he's nowhere near as bad as his stats tonight would indicate. His receivers (and often the play calling) were... turrible.

Edit: Forgot to say Kyle Fuller... wow.

Hmm... seems like an interesting idea. I think you may be on to something.

What I noticed is Dmitri looks very timid returning kicks and it hurt us in field position. I know he's back there because he's a burner but if he is going to continue he has to pick a lane and hit it rather than waiting for one to develop every time. Totally agree we do not use as many of our best athletes on ST as we used to and Beamerball is no longer a relevant tag! We used three different punt returners, why? KJ obviously has a nack for it put him back there every time and let him get in a groove.

I really want to know what has happened with recruiting on offense?

I think our problem is we still don't have an identity on offense. Do we want to be a pro I team. Do we want to be a pistol option team? We have to build on that. Like Chip Kelly says you can be whatever you want you just have to pick an identity and stick with that and do everything to make that your teams goal. Are we still trying to make LT a clone of Cam? This puzzles me because Logan is not Cam. Plus Auburn was a tempo team and they were darn good at it.

I will discuss more in the film review, but I expected the Hokies to do a bunch of spread stuff tonight because of the adjustment Alabama made to it (moving to a 4 man line.) The lack of a good blocking tight end (Darius Redman has the best game blocking tonight) makes it more difficult to run from a pro set.

BUT, this coaching move was all about improving the running game. The offensive line was better. The tailback was better. So it is a step forward. I hope to see much more inside and outside zone as the schedule moves forward, especially the inside zone. That will be the money play against smaller ACC fronts.

We'll have a great season as long as we never throw the ball. Hell, we might have won this game had we used that strategy.
