I'm a firm believer in people having "2nd acts" in life. According to ALL accounts, Vick has turned his life around. He's worked hard to not only become a successful businessman again, but he's worked hard to give back to the community.
It's no surprise to me that someone who grew up in Vick's neighborhood struggled to make a clean break with all the negative influences associated with his upbringing. Rather then wasting energy hating on Vick for taking so long to pull himself clear of those circumstances, I just feel bad that so few are given the opportunity to do the same.
Jeez you guys are optimistic.

This just isn't an easy question for me--God I love these would you rather and what if type questions.
What kind of a gaffe are we talking about here to make it a one point loss? Thats the important part to me. It could be a gaffe so bad it could make the hall of fame and people would only think of that one with VT for eternity. To be in a situation where you can win the game and do something stupid to lose by one point...against the #1 team....nobody is going to forget that. If we're talking about missing a short field goal or something then no big deal...option B preferred...done. But lets say its a pass to Knowles and hes running clear to the endzone and tries to dance with the ball and drops it or something stupid like that. I couldn't live with that. No way.

27-21 VT. Facyson Pick 6 in the 4th for the go ahead TD with 6 min left. VT D forces a punt and VT O stays on the field long enough to give the D a chance against a last ditch Bama effort. Fuller grabs a pick to seal the deal with less than 1:40 left to play. After a few plays and a first down VT goes into Victory Formation.
I think to win we need at least on TD on special teams or defense and a very very strong defensive performance because I don't think the offense will be able to do much.
Final Score 17-10 VT
But in reality I'm thinking our defense does very well for a half but the offense can't sustain a drive and give the defense a rest, letting the Tide pull away after half time. I think there's a really good chance our offense does better than this but if I completely separate myself from this game.....

I can agree with you that whatever we do poorly this week is gonna look worse that it actually is.
But if we do something well against them, then I think we can say with some confidence that we will do that well against anyone.

As for nerdy over-dramatizations even midly relating to Tech football...they're awesome.
My previous post wasn't a knock on VT. I just really don't see how this game can be used as a barometer for our strengths and weaknesses. Whatever the outcome, I won't know what to expect in week 2 or 3. If we get 20 yards on the ground, we can't think "we need to improve running the ball". We're talking about Alabama's defense here.
If we pull the upset, does it mean we're going onto win the title? If we get beat by 30 points, does it mean this will be a rough season? If its within 10, does that mean we should have 10 wins?
To me this game isn't about learning how good we are in certain areas of the game. Its about learning what kind of a game planner Loeffler is and what kind of packages he is putting together. I'm excited about that more anything else. I'm not going to walk away from this game feeling like I know more about what we're good at and what we need to improve on.

Amen to that. We moved here earlier in the summer and there are literally four grocery stores in this entire county that are allowed to sell beer, and most of the beer/wine stores are (1) shady as hell and (2) fully stocked with glorified piss water.
