Joe, this post got me really fired up. The passion and committment from Hokie fans is what makes our football culture one of the best in the country. Whenever I talk Hokie football with strangers at a bar they're quick to point out how dedicated HokieNation is to the team. Win or lose this weekend, I'm proud to be a Hokie! #BeatBama

While experience is important, they are being placed where they fit best. As we saw during the Spring and Fall, nearly every lineman played every position at some point as Grimes tried to find his top 5. Experience is thrown out the window as they learn new schemes, techniques, and plays. It's about what 5 players form the best wall to protect the QB and then push the DL back and make holes for our RBs. I have a hard time thinking that any combination of 5 players on our team would stop Bama's defense, but these guys are the top players capable of holding their own. I think we will be more than impressed by the new faces.

Not sure this line up does so good against our first opponent. No experience on the corners and light scrimmaging this fall? I would think the youngsters would need a lot of game like situations only found in a scrimmage. But secrecy is more important than optimal development for the 2 freshmen starting tackles?

Also not sold on the best 5 are on the field. Shouldn't experience be weighed heavily? I would want returning starters on the field. Sometimes the arrogance of "the old way" has no relevance to "the new way" distorts logical thinking.

I would not want to be either starting tackle. Looks to me like there is no way they have even closely been adequately prepared. Maybe they learn quick and become effective for ACC play.

I take solace in the fact that we were in the game all the way into the 4th quarter last time we played Bama (I don't need to remind anyone that they won the National Title that year) and that was with a young Tyrod Taylor and Ryan Williams in his first ever college game...and being led by O'cainspringsome. I know our offensive has been overhauled and we have some major questions along the OL but I don't think our O could get any worse than it was with Stiney and I think our defense will keep us in this game. It could come down to a few plays with Thomas..if he has a good day we could come away with a victory.

Go hokies!

Personally I didn't think ND was that good. There were a lot of better teams that probably deserved to be in that game instead of them. Will bama do the same to VT? I don't think so. They deserve a punch in the mouth to start the season.

That's really great news for us. I thought his interest in us was lip-service but this got me excited.

I read he wants to go to medical school and become an orthopedic surgeon if football doesn't work out. Hopefully our recruiting staff will have the foresight to have Lee spend time with the pre-med advisor (I had a bunch of friends at VT that are in med school, they all love her), the people over at Virginia Tech Carilion (I've heard nothing but great things about the new medical school), and make Brandon Facyson his tour guide (Facyson said repeatedly that he wants to be a heart surgeon).

Also, orthopedic residency programs put a premium on candidates with an undergraduate engineering background, especially those that major in biomechanics or biomedical engineering. Currently, Virginia Tech is ranked #5 (tied with Stanford) in Engineering Science & Mechanics which would be the best major for Lee to position himself as a future orthopod (ESM has a biomechanics concentration within the major). Also he would have an opportunity to study under Dr. Duma who most of you know from all of the extensive research Virginia Tech has done on concussion-impact in youth football.

Definitely excited for his consideration, especially considering he would create some depth in the linebacker group.

I know the feeling, I live in Smiths Station, AL. Just over the "hooch" from GA. I have my head on a swivel when I wear my #BEATBAMA shirt. I will say I encounter more Auburn fans considering Toomers Corner is only about 30 minutes away but the Bama bandwagoners are the ones you really gotta watch. They're not smart enough to appreciate true fanhood.

Mother in law's 60th b-day followed by helping a friend move. Both sound terrible, don't they? Well, luckily they didn't happen this weekend, so I'm pretty pleased that I'm done with all the bullshit and can squarely focus on the upcoming weekend.
