I'm not sure if "works better" is the right phrase, but going on the same principle that says that Oregon's defense is better than its 44th place ranking last year because their up-tempo offense left more time for the opponent, you could argue that GT's defense is a good bit worse than 43rd, which is what NCAA.com says. The 65th place figure might have been before the bowl game or last couple games or whatever, because they actually put down a few decent efforts towards the end.

If they read this they would know the fans (well at least most of us) would be happy with #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING for every single game.

I am the same way. Classic maroon VT helmet, and change it for maybe 1 game. I am surprised they have kept the same uniform style for so long considering how many helmets they have gone through. I wonder if they are trying to find a helmet of the future based on the fan's reactions...I hope that's not the case.

In todays college football landscape every team goes through up swings and down swings. USC is a great example of this but so is Alabama. They were absolutely horrendous not that long ago but Saban has since turned that program around.

Texas won a national title not that long ago but now they have recently fallen into mediocrity and so did Auburn. It can happen any given year. All it takes is prospects not turning out how they are projected to, which leads to a sub-par year, which leads to less recruits and you see how this goes.

It could be Alabama this year, we dont know. I dont think anyone is going to see their sub-par year coming. You cannot have anything but lofty expectations for a team coming off back-to-back titles and winning it all 3 out of the last 4 years. They may win it all again this year, so of course they would then have high expectations next year.

My point is this; Alabamas run will end, not might end, WILL end. Its likely going to take a surprising season for it to happen but it will.

Thanks for the heads up. I just set my DVR. It's on from 9:30 to 10:00 pm on 8/27 on ESPNU in my neck of the woods. I wonder if the time changed from when you first saw it?

You have no idea how badly I wanted them to get the fighting gobbler on the helmet before it got retired. When I found out they were gonna use it for the russel athletic bowl I just about turned into david Wilson doing backflips

There are really only two options:

1)The modern VT
2) HORSE ON A TREADMILL

Anything else is really just sub-par (except maybe the Fighting Gobbler, that thing was sick!)

I've always felt that if GT had a top 15-20 defense, they could be a 10 win, top 10 team year in and year out. Having trouble finding the stats, but last year their defense was scoring 65th best. I'm no coach, but I believe a run heavy offense that bleeds the clock works better when your defense is effective.

As someone familiar with VDOT, the Lynchburg district is responsible for ZERO interstate maintenance. Only 1 or 2 miles go through their district and another district takes care of it for them.

I would argue (I'm not a basketball fan and don't know any more about this story than this interview and funny meme) that this man has put in more "practice" time at his craft than anyone else on that team. That's what makes him the best. So in that sense I agree with your post.
However, I think the same principle applies to a team, and the issue is one about team chemistry and comaraderie; a TEAM needs to practice together to be the best Team on the field/court.
So shame on you Allen Iverson. Play team ball!

I'm saying a WVU team that everyone thought was just a decent team blew up on Clemson in the bowl win, and then suddenly started the season ranked highly. Then, when they proved to be same mediocre team that dropped 2 gimme games (to Syracuse and Louisville) the year before, everyone was shocked.
Now Louisville, which had gotten clobbered by a mediocre Syracuse team and lost to UConn the year before, hammers the favorite in the bowl and they start ranked high with national title expectations. And then people discuss their pathetic schedule as if it's a reason for them to be ranked so highly - as if a pathetic schedule makes your team better somehow. Sure, they're less likely to lose, but they'll be even more wildly overrated. This is not a team that will win the title, and I'd be shocked if they do make it through their schedule (as weak as it is) unscathed.
