The lovely Ms. Hubbarth is easy to watch.
I'd definitely do BW3. Ms. Territory has hinted that I should go there to watch Tech games in the past (she thinks I'm loud and obnoxious during Tech games, obsessed with football in general, and Tech in particular. And she's right. But I paid for the tv, so I'm watching it here, dagnabbit!). I'd extend an invitation, but Mrs. Territory is the event planner. That falls above my pay grade.
I pull for all ACC teams except UVA and don't share the anti-Clemson sentiment seen here. Dabo sucks of course but the university and fan base aren't at the same level of over-privileged and delusional chachbaggery prevalent at UNC, UVA and GT. I had a great experience at Clemson last year even though we lost (the only exception walking by a herd of drunken Kappa Alphas at their frat house). Several fans carried out intelligent conversations, said repeatedly they respect VT and Beamer and they definitely truly care about their football. I hope they beat Georgia and I loved watching them beat LSU in the bowl. If it was UNC or UVA on the rise I'm not sure I could handle it. Clemson doesn't appear to be dropping off anytime soon with their recruits so I've made up my mind I can deal with their success. I'd love to play them in a few ACC championships and send them home to boost us into a top #4 spot once our offense reaches the level of our defense.
#GoAcc. The better they look, all arguments about Tech's SOS become invalid (and I hear them a lot). And yes even UVA. I loved it when UVA actually resembled a good football team in 2011 until we came in and ya know... 38-0... bro. I hate UVA, Miami, and Clemson but I want them to be good, and I want to beat them when they're good.
The voice of reason. Let us vote for Trevor's note to be the conclusion to this (at least for this year).
Anybody ever hear what the story was with Kevin Asante? All I've heard is he was "doing Kevin Asante" things...

I do believe something needs to be done. My first initial thought was some kind of trust fund which has been mentioned. I also agreed with some other points I hadn't thought of. But my two cents...
1) Give a very small stipend to all athletes at colleges/universities. (Same amount to each individual and very small)
a)They are already receiving plenty through scholarship (education, training, etc.)
2) For players who excel and become very known and help the university profit in large ways, set up a trust fund. They would get a fair percentage (determined in advance by NCAA) amount for sponsorships (set limit by NCAA with sponsor chosen by athlete and school that could be national or local), jersey sales (set percentage if school decides to produce that player's "number"), EA sports (very small, small, percentage because come on, it should be enough of an award for them to even be on a video game and if EA has to dish out a ton, they'll find ways around it), and whatever else. The EA may not even matter now that NCAA broke ties.
a)The trust would build throughout the time playing for the school. They would have advising meetings to know exactly how much they have built up for times when the do money need right away. That way in dire situations (like the car thing) they could take a loan out that would easily be paid back when they receive their fund OR NCAA could decide to allow to give what the needed at the time of their situation.
b) They could leave at any time and withdraw their whole amount. However, no degree and these percentages and limits would never be enough to allow them to live off (even though pretty good sum if fully taken advantage of); hence incentive to stay in school or leave after 3 years for NFL.
c) Very good idea, as mentioned before, to have classes/sessions to help these athletes know how to wisely use the money.
3) Keep boosters completely out. It has to be directly from the profit the players help generate. Must be managed between the school and player.
4)And if not hinted from before, the total earnings for one player would have a cap limit set by NCAA. That way a huge "corporation" school like OSU, USC, Alabama would not have an astronomical advantage over smaller schools. Yes, certain players may hit that cap limit more often at those schools than others, but that is no real different advantage from today where if you go to those schools, you already have a greater shot at getting noticed and getting to the NFL.
Ok, can't say I've totally thought it through so feel free to rip it apart. Thanks to the arguments before as I tried to think of a solution for any challenge someone brought up for what I thought was a good idea.
I didn't mean to paint Shane as Mike Groh - he clearly has earned his stripes at the D1 level. My only concern is Shane coaching RBs given that most of his success was on the defensive side of the ball. You don't see too many folks flip from defense to offense at this level and be successful. I'm hoping this year proves me horribly wrong but an apprehensive based upon last year's performance.
most recruiting services had him listed as a WR too. I could be wrong, but think it had something to do with his height. 6'2 is getting tall for a RB unless he gains ~30lbs. Tall & skinny doesnt work well for RBs, and at 6'2 he needs to be a lot bigger. DJ Coles was a RB in high school (those big hits and trucking defenders make sense now eh?) but he was too tall to stay there
I'm a student in Blacksburg. Let me know and there will be beer. Especially during football season.
Bourbon Barrel stouts...

Jesus Christ, my brain is so tainted. I saw BBC and instantly thought..
...well, that's not important. The interwebz has forever ruined me.
You heard it here first: Caleb will be our featured H-back by start of next Spring ball. He's not there yet, but give him 10 months and he'll have a larger role than McLaughlin's lower intestine!
I would think Turner place might have hurt us. It's a beautiful place with great food, but the layout is absolutely atrocious. The whole place stands still if it gets even moderately busy.
Somehow Fightin' Cock became my drink of choice when in attendance at Lane.
When watching from home/bar it's Maker's all day long.
Funny you mention Bubs. My company is based in SD and a coworker mentioned I should check it out. I'll be back out that way again in October so I will have to swing in
tailgate: something cheap and in cans consumed in bulk along with whatever whiskey, jager, shine, rum, etc, is in the cooler.
bar hopping pre-game: something decent but poundable, newcastle, devils backbone vienna, fat tire, bass, etc along with whatever shot/shooter we end up ordering.
home: sometimes nothing (this is a recent development since my daughter was born) but a sixer of the above mentioned beers and i usually got makers or gentleman jack in the covert.
dude have i got some stories involving hokie football and moonshine. . . a potent duo.
I for one welcome our new insect overlords. So excited to see Caleb excited.
Elijah Craig 12 year when I'm feeling classy, Wild Turkey 101 when I'm not.

For me it's a lot more complicated. (If I had time, I'd do a flow chart akin to the famous Mike London fail chart). Generally, if an ACC team (and the team's name is not UVA) plays an OOC game, I want them to win. If the ACC team is not on our schedule, and the OOC team is on our schedule, I want the OOC team to win. If an ACC team on our schedule is playing another ACC team not on our schedule, I want the team on our schedule to win. If both are on our schedule, and one of the teams is ranked higher than us and the other lower, I want the lower ranked team to win. (I like rankings chaos. This may change when the playoff arrives.) If both are ranked higher than we are, I generally pull for whichever team generates the most chaos in the standings if they win. If both are ranked lower than VT, I want the higher ranked of the two to win. The exception to every previously stated rule is UVA. If UVA has a record of 0-12 at the end of the season, I consider it a perfect season.
