What's a Hokie? 38-7 bro!
I went to this game. It was freezing and raining and we sat in the middle of a bunch of pom pom waving Bama fans. They kept asking "What's a hokie?" and "What conference are you guys in?" 38 - 7 beat down was well worth it
Lee Corso - Alabama win? LOL
What about a giant evil hokie bird eye? Orange in the white part.
That would be 95% of those voting being wrong.
Awesome!! :)
I would not at all be surprised if LT3 accounts for 4,000 (or more) yards of total offense this season.
As I recall, Tebow had much success in the shotgun his senior year, the year he worked with Loeffler. True, Loeffler's offense won't be the same as Meyer's, but Loeffler knows how to make a QB succeed, whether it's in shotgun or "his" offense. Although his QB rating was down, Loeffler brought Tebow's percentage and rushing yards to an all time high.

Then again, I found this article in which some Gator fans thought Loeffler was hurting Tebow's productivity:
What I have seen as a result of Loefflers teachings is someone in Tebow who is taking longer to make decisions, not going through his progressions, struggling to get the ball out on time and rarely wanting to throw it away when under pressure. It is also quite obvious that Tebows throwing motion, which was supposed to quicken after Loeffler taught him to throw more overhand with a higher release point, is perhaps even slower.
So, we'll see. But, if Loeffler can get Logan's completion percentage up and his interceptions down, then Logan will have his best year yet. Maybe even a surprise Heisman candidate. After all, it's still less than a year ago when Logan was projected by MANY to be the next #1 pick in the NFL draft. Of course, he'll need solid support from the running game and O-line. Nevertheless, I predicting we'll see Logan flourish under Loeffler's tutelage. (We need to bring back the LT3 hype!!)
Sorry I'd rather sit somewhere where I can actually enjoy the game. The top of the South End Zone is not one of those places.
Thanks again for the insight. I think you had commented before that you could run the zone stretch from multiple formations.....I was guessing Logan could be back off the line but still run the backside bootleg if Edmunds is effective.
Found that you were most definitely correct. A little #beatbama of my own. Yes its not the official tkp shirt. Had these made for a small group prior to tkp's shirts became available
I am a designer as well. I have my own company and have won architecture, landscape and interior design awards. I completely agree with Low Brau. The main issue is not Hokie stone, which should be used liberally on every structure on campus, it is the attempts at maintaining gothic architecture. Using one material as a unifying element for something like a campus is what creates a lasting identifiable character that non-students and fans can recognize. The biggest problem is the university restricting the use of more updated architectural styles. They believe the gothic style should largely, with some exception, also be maintained. But using more contemporary architecture would only serve to highlight the great gothic architecture from before. Replicating an old form that is known for its intricate hand worked detail today is stupid, because labor is more expensive and the stone masons no longer have the skills to do that level of workmanship. You can see the results in posts above.
In regards to the scoreboard I don't see any reason why it could not have Hokie Stone and it should do so.
Hi French, from what you have seen, who would be the best fit for this system then - Leal, Gresh, Hodges or Ford? (future of our offense)
"So for the sake of making the stadium look sold out, and for the sake of fan's comfort and honoring the money spend...just sit in your assigned seat. Like MVHOKIE said, the seats are great no matter where you are."
Partially disagree here. I'd rather have North/East student section overfilled and not worry about the visual appearance of South. People, myself included, prefer to go away from South because North/Easy are way more intense and they wan't to add to it.
I guess what I am saying is that if you are going to be a participant in the game and do your best to yell until you lose your voice for a week, sneak your way into the better student sections. If you want to be more of a spectator (like the obnoxious sorority girls that sat, literally sat, behind me last year then stick to your assigned seats no matter what.
Alumni sections are a whole different animal. On that one I agree with you and say for the sake of fans' comfort and respecting money spent sit in an assigned seat.
I'm so torn on whether to go down there or not. My heart says we have a chance, but my wallet is laughing.
No, after we #beatbama we become #ESPNDarlings again.
#legendkiller #warhokie
In reference to every game selling out but the top of the South and East are a bit empty...I may be able to shed some light on that.
The top of the east and the south endzone are used for student lottery tickets. A lot of times, students who have their season tickets will print out copies and hand them out to friends (only after they have used their own ticket to check into the game). Then those friends move down to the section where the copied ticket is located and takes someone else's seat. For three seasons I bought season tickets and for three seasons I regularly had about three times the amount of people more than the normal amount. And it isn't even people I know...
The worst was that during the Nebraska game (Taylor to Coale setting up a game winning TD) I literally was able to watch that through a 6 inch by 6 inch window of peoples shoulders. Frankly, the yellow-jacket ticket people just make sure the ticket is correct, but they never check the names. In my opinion Tech needs to give actual "Stub" tickets so that they can't be copied. Until that day, students will migrate from South and Top East all the way to low south and the north endzone.
I hope I don't sound like a tool here, but I can count on one hand, how many games I was actually able to sit in my seat during half time. I ended up not ordering season tickets for my senior year because I have bad knees and have to sit during portions of the game and history proved I could not accomplish that goal.
So for the sake of making the stadium look sold out, and for the sake of fan's comfort and honoring the money spend...just sit in your assigned seat. Like MVHOKIE said, the seats are great no matter where you are.
Why do they cut strings off tampons in West Virginia?
So the crabs can't go bungee jumping.
May have missed something, saw more about Jason having a cloud around him and not working with Nirvana or Soundgarden. Nirvana was the tits then, and if Courtney hadn't killed Kurt, I think the music landscape would be more different today. Dude had his issues, but nothing like today's stars (Nicky minaj, Bieber, etc).
Anyone Remember this? It's the 1st entrance video played on the 'new' scoreboard back in 2000...more importantly, it's the originator of the use of 'Enter Sandman' Enjoy!

GO HOKIES!!
Also, we discussed the basic coverage packages of the Hokie defense last summer. Check the archives of French on the Bench for more detail.
I am sure there are variances specific to game matchups, but those are the basic rules of the defense. They also have some rules on slanting their front based on formation and a variety of keys. I am still studying those keys and perhaps next offseason we will do a deeper dive into that discussion.
Thanks guys, really appreciate the dialog. As fluid as this defense appears to be I'm just trying to get a sense for the core concepts. It seems that the boundary and field alignments remain static only with the corners (edit: though the rover usually lines up on the same side as the boundary cb and the FS usually takes the wide-side). The front six key off the run (or "run strength") and the back five (to include the whip/nickel) key off the pass (or "passing strength"). Man coverage becomes a factor when blitzes are called. And this can make things pretty interesting.
Granted it's a gross oversimplification, but is that about right?
No wonder it takes most guys a few years in the system to be able to play at game speed.
Edit: Regarding the play v. Rutgers above, did you mean trips to the wide side?
This guy is a stud. I've had my eye on him for a while and am a big fan. Seems like he's leaning heavy toward Louisville but I'd be happy as a clam to have him

A Hokie is any one of the individuals who is currently standing over your quarterback as he peels himself off the turf. Alternate definition - the group of fearsome people who made your punter crap himself every time he came onto the field.
