Daesan Hamilton has committed to penn state (yesterday)

*Wilson had a breakout game. He scored on a 97-yard kickoff return and had other returns of 58 and 52 yards. He also rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns. His 327 all-purpose yards established a team record. The former mark of 303 was set by Domenik Hixon at New Orleans on Oct. 18, 2009. Hixon’s breakdown was 230 yards on kickoff returns, 51 on punt returns and 22 on receptions.

*Wilson is the first player in NFL history with at least 200 kickoff return yards and 100 rushing yards in the same game.

*Wilson’s 227 kickoff return yards (on four runbacks) was the third-highest single-game total in Giants history, surpassed only by Willie Ponder’s 259 yards vs. Pittsburgh on Dec. 18, 2004 and Hixon’s 230 yards at New Orleans in 2009.

*Wilson averaged 56.8 yards per return, the highest total ever by a Giant with at least three returns in a game. The previous record of 51.8 yards was set by Joe Scott on four returns vs. the Rams on Nov. 14, 1948.

*Wilson, the Giants’ first-round draft choice this year, has returned 48 kickoffs for 1,321 yards, a 27.5-yard average, this season. The yardage total is a team record, topping Hixon’s 1,291 yards in 2009.

*Wilson’s 27.5-yard average currently makes him the Giants’ career leader (minimum 40 returns). Rocky Thompson had held the record with a 27.2-yard average on 65 returns from 1971-73.

*Wilson scored the Giants’ first touchdown on his 97-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. It was the Giants’ first kickoff return touchdown since Hixon’s 74-yard runback against New England on Dec. 29, 2007. The Giants had played 76 regular season and nine postseason games between kickoff return touchdowns.

They shot unbelievably well from 3 and they aren't a great 3 point shooting team. There are going to be days like that in a long season, all you have to do is keep fighting and keep getting better. I think our team showed a lot of poise to come back from that deficit at the end of the first half and beginning of the second.

One thing that I was very happy to hear was that a lot of my friends at Tech seemed to actually care about the game. Last year when I'd say that I was going to watch the games they'd just say "Why?". Now everyone is talking all week about where and when we're going to watch. This is an important stretch coming up because it's winter break, people are obviously not going to be at the games. However, if the team can come out of it with no more than 4 losses then the fans are going to show up for ACC play and this team can really make a run.

About a month ago there was a news bit quoting the Giants RB coach, saying he needed to improve his blocking before seeing significant snaps. If I recall correctly, that was a similar issue his first couple years at VT also.

Glad to see him going off in the big show though!

He transferred to Tech because he didn't like being used as a point guard at UNC-W. Robert will be taking the majority of the minutes next year at SG so if he want's to play a meaningful amount he'll need to slide over and share with Donte and Marquis. I think he'd be willing because he would still get to shoot a lot in our type of offense. We'll see how Rankin develops throughout the season.

Nah, Eric at least looked like a point guard somewhat. You can already tell that Rankin just doesn't have the court awareness that an effective point should possess. If you are going to be so ineffective scoring the ball, you better be a damn good distributor and ball handler.

... we'd have won comfortably yesterday. Every team has a bad shooting night every now & then. I don't think this team is going to shoot 27% from 3-point range and only score 24 points in a half very often.

... his sophomore season. (Remember how Erick Green looked 8 games into his sophomore season?) Rankin plays well in spurts and he can always improve, although his shot selection yesterday left a lot to be desired.

But according to knowledgeable sources on other boards, VT will look to sign a 5th recruit for the 2013 class and that recruit will most likely be a true PG.

While I'm sure he could play some PG for us in a pinch, he's not someone who's going to be at the point full-time.

he had an awesome day. must've had some chic-fil-a before the game. each time he plays the announcers keep saying he needs to get more carries, theres no way one fumble at the start of the season is limiting his time. i wonder what is causing his limited carries. so glad he finally had a breakout game.

Stinespring gets pummeled for play calling, but has the best recruiting network of anyone on staff. Make him TE coach?

I agree. The Maryland game should be one of the better barometers of our season... Looking at the ACC right now, I think our only challenges come in the forms of Duke, UNC, NC State, and Maryland... maybe Miami. We could end up doing a lot better than .500 in conference IMO, maybe even a 75% winning percentage.

But I'm always overly optimistic.

The unbeaten streak ended which sucks but VT played tough in a hostile environment when they didn't have their A game. Eddie's foul trouble really hurt and, as was mentioned in the recap, the game wouldn't have been close if WVU weren't shooting the lights out from 3. VT came out with the right game plan defensively and WVU just made them pay with good shooting.

I'd like to see Brown with better shot selection, Rankin not look for his shot so quickly and Raines to get more touches in the post but with Green playing this well VT absolutely has the chance to be a top 25 team and be in the mix for the NCAA tourney. Considering where the program was 6 months ago that's pretty amazing.

We do have three bodies to fill those minutes. Another body will just muddy the water.

Rankin could improve dramatically too, I remember EG being lousy his first year. Rankin needs t mature into that distributor role.

No, if anything my expectations have been firmed up even more. I expect us to be competitive in ACC play, and on the bubble (having a nice win like Oklahoma State already on the resume makes me feel good about our chances early). We almost won that. Our second best player, Eddie, who might be as important as anyone on the floor sat because of fouls, and WVU hit three after three. The team never quit, they didn't hang their heads, and they didn't let the game spiral out of control early. It's a new welcomed attitude.

We still need to figure out how to score with Green and Eddie are on the bench, but I think we'll get better at that.

Winning on the road is tough.

The games at BYU, then at Maryland will be an early indicator for how our season will play out.

Considering we were picked to finish like 9th in the ACC I think we look awesome. If we end up in the top 6 of the ACC it's an improvement and I could see us getting up to 4th or 5th if the ball bounces in more often than in yesterday's game. Lots of positives! I hope we can see some good recruits come our way if we keep this up.

I might make that same face if more changes really do happen
