Not bad at all..
What the WHAT!?
It may actually benefit us, because Saban will have zero game tape to show what our offense could be bringing to the table.
Just no.
Anybody else see this on twitter??

MIKE, THE LUNCH PAIL IS OUR THING.
These guys have very sound, very good shooting strokes. As they get more comfortable, they will become very good 3 ball shooters, especially Wood. I think Wood could explode this year as a scorer.
he's also one of the better paid coordinators in the country ... that probably has a lot to do with why he's stuck around too
I was hoping to see an OC change before the bowl game. If we are going to make a change that is a change in offensive philosophy, then I would like to see the players have as many practices as possible within the new system. Especially with kicking off next season against Alabama. Saban's defense will not be the most ideal side to face in a new offensive scheme.
Got 'em
If the highest level of athletics you've played is collegiate rec league, I doubt you're in a position to be lecturing individuals on the staff of a NCAA FBS school.
So, you do ME a favor and don't speak on my behalf, because, chances are, you don't share my opinion. Hokie Nation isn't the Editorial Board of The New York Times -- we're not all going to agree on one viewpoint to share with the world (or, in this case, Coach Cav).
Writing something anonymously is a chickenshit move used by cowards who want to say something but don't want the responsibility that comes with it. In the words of the great Sam Seaborn, "When I write something, I sign my name."
Agreed - which is why I included the 2011-12 RPI in my post.
They can call it a sellout, even if the fans are becoming complacent by either not attending or trying to make money on their tickets and nobody will bite. I remember days when a sellout meant a full house. I will continue to blame the new generations of fans that have started coming in since 2010. That's when I started noticing the attitude shift.

I don't have the numbers (I don't think anyone does since the university reports nothing but sellouts), but a sellout in Lane is becoming a much looser term these days. The top corner of the SEZ has been empty for a while now, and the NEZ is an embarrassment.
I think Coach Brown has a bright future. He has more responsibility recruiting in the 757, is a Hokie at heart, and he brought a high energy level to every practice / scrimmage that I've seen. Since at least the 2000s the staff has always had a dedicated OLBs coach. Cav's responsibilities were OLBs and strong safeties. In addition to coaching the whips, Cornell is assistant DL coach. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Given that the defense has played more 4-4, I hope he works with the whips and rovers (DBs) next season.
I think it doesn't really start to become relevant until at least the 2/3 point of the season, maybe even later.
... bury a 3-pointer if they get an open look, your team can go a long, long way even if you're deficient in other areas.
This VT team has no less than five guys ... Green, Brown, Eddie, Wood and Johnston ... in whom I have a high degree of confidence when taking an open 3-point shot. (I know Wood's 3-point % isn't good so far, but he has great form on his shot and a lot of his misses have been in & outers. They're gonna start falling.)
The bottom line is that they only award you points in this game for doing one thing: Putting the ball in the basket. You need to be able to do that well.
However, they won't happen until after the bowl game, which is not what I was hoping for.
That's actually a really heartwarming story. Not sarcastic. But really, they Bud has to have a HUGE soft spot for frank if he's been putting up with this kind of stuff since '04.
Can't remember if I read it or saw a video of Bud talking about it. He said he thought he was done after the incident, but Beamer met him as they were boarding the plane and gave him a profuse apology telling him how much he meant to him and he just lost his cool and that it would not happen again. Bud said how much he respected Frank afterwards.
Wow, that was a shot of greatness straight to the childhood. Very nice job.
I'd be happy with that. Seven conference wins would be a great step forward especially on a team that lost a major recruit, had a starter transfer and has limited depth. I don't expect them to be great, but I'd love to see some consistency. Under Seth we had some big wins and a lot of letdowns. I'd be happy with seven wins even if they all came against the bottom half of the conference. It won't get us in the NCAA Tourney, but it would be a major step forward for a program that has had some puzzling losses (that helped keep us out of the dance). If this squad can pick up even 1 win against the ACC Top 4 (NC State, Duke, UNC, FSU) that'd just be icing on the cake.

If that happens then it's likely either the Russell Athletic Bowl or the Sun Bowl for VT. I honestly rather play USC in the Sun Bowl because of higher profile opponent. Orlando vs. L'ville/Rutgers loser would be an easier trip w/ better destination and greater chance of success.
I agree. My goal for the year for this team was to get to 7 conference wins. I don't think that's unreasonable and would be a great first year for JJ. With that said, it's hard for me not to get excited for this weeks games because they could get us that national recognition JJ needs to help in recruiting.
Forwarded to everyone I know!

they held a party/meeting for the high end donors.(before UVA) the only reason for this was weaver is scarred that this season may effect overall donations from the big guns and season tickets sales from everybody for the football program. he promised/hinted at change with out saying it just in case everything doesn't as planned i was told by a member there. he hinted there would be new faces but was 100% sure on what direction that they wanted.
most of the people there expressed that they wanted to go back the way tech had won in the past by heavy running/prostyle. while some of the younger people were hopeful of just bringing something totally new in.
personally i think newsome gets the door, o'cain is shown the door or like stiney handed a different position like hite was the last time this group wanted change.
