The only reason I say that we can crack the top 25 is because people are really high on Oklahoma State right now, so even if we don't deserve it a lot of voters would be swayed to vote us in.
I don't really pay attention to the fact that the teams we have played are not very good. We played teams like this under Greenberg in prior years and couldn't do what this team is doing. My one concern, though, is our defensive play. This team can play good defense, as they have showed. It is just a matter of how bad they want it, in my opinion.
And yes, the three ball is huge. For the people that kept up with the Miami Heat in the playoffs last year; yes, they had superstars like LeBron James and Dwyane Wade and an all star post player on Chris Bosh, but the weapons around them were all exceptional three point shooters. People like Shane Battier, Mike Miller, Mario Chalmers, and Norris Cole (who didn't really who his ability to shoot the three ball until The Finals) all could knock down the three and made a huge contribution. That's what I feel the Hokies have in players like Jarell Eddie, Will Johnston, and Marshall Wood, with players like Erick Green and Robert Brown being the scorers.
Beamer calls the shots. He's a legend, and so is he's ego. He runs this town (blacksburg). Honestly, I see him running the shots for a few more years, and running the program into the ground. I've said this for a few years now, but we HAVE to become more cutthroat.
The strategy that worked for us in the past is no longer working. Period.
Changes to the staff have resulted in better recruiting (Thank God!)
Time for a new coach. I appreciate, and will always love Frank, but please don't pull a Joe Pa.
Either of those matchups!
It slipped i just ate popcorn!

+1 very well said
Great stuff.
UVA's last 3 seasons: (4-8) (8-5) (4-8)
VT's last 3 seasons: (11-3) (11-3) (6-6)*
If anyone's closed the gap, it's us. It's a lot easier to recharge a battery than build a car.
*= bowl game pending
in the sense that they stayed really bad and we had one of our worst years in 20 years. Granted, I was impressed with some of the hits UVA was laying on Tech Saturday and it seemed like their intensity was at a higher level than in previous years however I don't see where the "gap is closing". Their team went from 8 wins last year to 5 wins this year so it's not like they did anything to say they're closing in on Virginia Tech. I guess if you want to say the gap is closing because Tech was terrible this year and so were we(per usual), then I would agree.
That would be good
I completely agree on the SOS bit, but my expectations are very low for this season. So if we're even in the NCAAT conversation at the end of the year, I'll be extremely happy.

Bring in a new OC, and let him choose the staff. If he wants to keep Sherman/Stiney/Shane on his staff, then let him do so.
I'd like a new special teams coach, but offensive coaching changes should be the priority. Bringing in someone other than Frank takes up a coaching spot (since NCAA only allows so many coaches). If the offense wants that additional coach, then they can have him. If not, then bring someone else in for special teams.
It's currently 336th. There are 347 teams in DI basketball...
Miss. Valley State, Georgia Southern, and Bradley won't help. WVU isn't doing well either. BYU and Iowa are solid, but playing them won't budge the RPI much. Only OK state will make a difference in RPI, especially with a win.
love it
Even if they beat Iowa and Ok State, I'd be extremely surprised if they get ranked. Iowa is not a big enough win to merit ranking, and 1 win against a top 25 team doesn't make you a top 25 team. If they win these two games, it'll be nice to see the Hokies crack the top 100 RPI.
We'll figure out about how good VT is in their next two games, but the problem is they're the only two games in their OOC schedule that are worth damn. If this VT team turns out much better than we expect, it's going to come to haunt them come tournament selection time, especially with only 3 ACC teams currently ranked this year. It's going to take a win over OSU and strong ACC record to make it to the tourny in March.
Mike O'cain is by far the first on the chopping block IMO. He is a terrible recruiter, his play calling is horrible, and he has royally screwed up Logan Thomas. I cannot think of a single reason they would want to keep him.
you right. Ugly ass game, Ugly ass season, nuff said
I've always thought that Stinespring has an actual offensive system. Run, run, incomplete pass, punt. It's a bad system, but it's still a system.
"It just drives me crazy at how close we have come to winning the National Title and how close we have come to going back in recent seasons."
One word comes to mind:
Complacency.

Sadly I have no child of my own to read this to but instead of typing more dribble, I am going to try to rectify this. When will this be available on the Kindle?
