Ha Ha, I've been saying for years that Nashville would be a cool city to visit for bowl season. Fans have been saying for years how they're tired of the Orange Bowl. Well, here ya go everybody!

I agree with a large number of these posts about our ceiling and expectations being both a National Championship or, at the very least, a BCS Bowl so I will try not to repost the same thoughts. There is no reason that we can't or shouldn't have a chance to get there in a poor conference every year, with a fan dubbed "rebuilding" year every now and then. College football teams exist to WIN football games. No program was ever created with the goal not to go out and accomlish this. The difference maker in all of this is that every time you reach the "ceiling" or the pinnacle of your program's goals, both in the minds of your players/coaches and the fans, that ceiling moves and rightfully so. Consistency is great except for the fact that it comes to be consistently boring for the player, recruits, and fan-base. I am all for 10-win season and think that the streak is a great thing until it becomes a fall-back for not competing at a higher level. The coaching staff and Beamer are consistently asking for that higher level and no matter the talent that comes through the door, it seems they have been falling short in recent years. We have more talent leaving early than top programs and I find myself asking if they know something that we don't? The fact of the matter is...of the statistics at the top of the page on CFB and his staff, there are a lot of wins. However, what isn't mentioned is that of the 25 bowl games that Tech has gone to (which is no longer much of a feat these days with 6-6 going to a bowl) 19 of them were under Beamer. His record in these bowl games is a 8-11, with a BCS Bowl record of 2-6. Really?!? If any coach at another "football school" had a 42% winning percentage they would likely be out on their ass. Bringing in Shane was also a step in the right direction. Yes, VA is ranked 7th nationally for football talent. However, if we consistently recruit in Virginia, and lose the bigger talents to top programs year after year and if we aren't recruiting nationally, then how can we expect to compete on a national scale? Unfortunately, "consistency" is our enemy at this point.

Loovul - Big East ball is the new high school ball?
KState - meh Texas schools
UF - UF smacked USCe smacked UGAly, so...
tOSU - battle of the sanctions
ND - picking against Oklahoma has been bad for me this year, but...
State - this line feels like an Oregon line, wtf?

kind of what I was getting at above too...

I thought top teams would effectively eliminate unbalanced offense attacks, LSU not withstanding.

How did things turn out for Ron Zook? (sadly I have learned that he and I attended and graduated from the same university...therefore I can not mock him)

I think he was fired because his spread offense "wasn't working" at Auburn. I remember all the ESPN college football heads saying Tuberville didn't give it enough time to become successful (inappropriate offensive talent for the scheme). A lot of people were very critical of Tommy not letting the system develop and bring in the right recruits to run the spread.

He was brought in to change the Auburn system and start running the spread there but Tuberville gave up on it after half a season. And Tuberville didn't stick around long after that 5-7 season if I recall correctly?

So glad I can know how bad at betting i'd be this season w/o losing any money

Louisville - Charlie Strong leading L'ville then going to Arkansas next yr
Texas Tech - Just keeps surprising
Florida - Wish i was in jacksonville this weekend
tOSU - Bawse'ton Miller
Notre Dame - Manti T'eo please be the successor to London Fletcher someday
MSU - Go Bulldogs

You are comparing the VT offense to "the rest". Not every offense is the same. You've got teams that are going to run every time (GT, Military academies) and you've got teams that are going to pass every time (Texas Tech). This makes the stats way more "average" in terms of showing the trends and comparing them to the VT offense. What I would like to see, and what may be more telling, is side by side comparison's with "successful" offenses that can be considered "balanced". I'd like to see the comparison of our offense to teams like Oregon, Clemson, heck, even West Virginia. Because I think it would be a it different than what you have here. If you're willing to do that, it'd be fantastic!

BOTW - Sierra Nevada Narwhal Imperial Stout...speaks for itself 'Featuring incredible depth of malt flavor, rich with notes of espresso, baker's cocoa, roasted grain and a light hint of smoke, Narwhal is a massive malt-forward monster.' At 10.2 ABV, plenty of bang for its buck.

Here's to 4-2!

I got a serious sad too. I always listened to predictability criticims with a grain of salt, but these are eye popping.

The lower left corners of those last 4 graphs really highlight how we live by our tendencies. If this was Vegas or AC I'd be rich armed with this information.

I'd be curious of how those graphs looked for the top teams. It is possible that similar tendencies of superior teams, that can win the mano-a-mano battles, are masked in the use of the "average" team in this analysis. If you got better talent, you win those battles despite being predictable. But just because Bama does things this way doesn't mean we should.

On the other hand, if the best teams are not this predictable, then we have some serious issues. If Bama isn't doing it we probably shouldn't either.

The odds of rushing on 1st and 10 while leading in the first quarter gave me a serious sad. Although, I always felt like we do way too much of it, so I feel kind of good for noticing a trend.

I'll say it again, really well done, Sir.

And, I'm not going to lie, I had to read it twice, stats for engineers was so long ago.

I think you could see Moon move down to 165 and redshirt. That's a positive and it shores us up in that class once Yates graduates. So who fills the void at 174? My guess is r-fr Austin Gabel, but John Dickson could move down from 184. True freshman Huston Evasn is also in the mix, but he might redshirt as well.

Louisville - Montrezl Harrell will make us all sad for awhile.
Kansas St - Cheering for K-state is the next best thing for a Hokie
UF - Florida is back!! FSU...
OSU - After the Hoos beat PSU, they've come back are playing well. But I repeat, the Hoos beat PSU this year.
OU - Going with the college football gambling rule to never bet on a higher ranked opponent if they're not favored to win.
'Bama - the spread is always in reach for 'Bama to cover

CFB let Ricky Bustle go to La Lafayette with little fight...probably because it was a HC job (there are other stories about his fights with Stiney). Do you think CFB would put together a deal to keep Stiney if he were offered a high profile OC or HC position?

Running serious statistics on football is one of my favorite things ever and this is really well done. The odds of rushing as dependent on score difference are really quite incredible and I imagine that the "3rd-and-Logan" plays are equally incredible. Hopefully Miami hasn't picked up on it so we can get the ACCCG for a serious #goacc moment.

who worked under Beamer are:

Ron Zook (Beamer's 1st year in 1987)
Rickey Bustle (1987-1993; 1995-2001)

I don't know that you can consider either of these as "successful" head coaches...
