Bill does it again! another awesomely incredible video! I only wish there was HD video from the 90's!

seen with a soft cast on it at the end of the scrimmage yesterday. Wouldn't imagine he would have to miss too much time and even so...I believe pinkies are optional when catching the football.

I'll never forget the morning of the game. We went and ate at the Waffle House next to our motel before heading to the tailgate. When we were paying up front after our meal, my friend asked the waitress "Excuse me ma'am, do you know where the closest liquor store is?" She looked at us, decked out in our VT gear, and said, in a classic Louisiana accent, "Honey, you ain't in Virginia no more! See that gas station across the street? You'll find everything you need right in there." At that point, I knew we were in trouble...

I've never had so much fun at a football game in which we absolutely got destroyed.

Derrick Green is the guy we've been pursuing more than Mizzell. Mizzell had an offer from us, but Green would be the better grab. Mizzell is built similar to JC at 5'10" 184 lbs. Green is 6'0" and 215 lbs. and rated higher by most sources. Lots of competition for him though with Michigan believed to be in the lead right now. Let's hope Shane can get in there and pull him this way, keeping VA talent in the state!

Was that the Clemson game? Or the UNC game? I think we had dizzy bat at both, but I honestly can't remember.... probably because of said dizzy bat.

How much did we even recruit Mizzell? I don't follow it as close as some of you do, so this is a legit question. Was he a big 'win' for UVA over Tech? It just seems like because we have so much youth at RB right now that we wouldn't really bother recruiting another RB....?

From what I saw yesterday, I think Edmunds is SPECIAL. Very raw as a RB, but he certainly has the tools and talent. The fumbles don't worry me too much - that can be fixed. I agree that he probably has the most upside of anybody, but with us being so stacked at the position, it might end up working out better if he ends up at LB. Wherever he ends up, he looks like he will be a star for VT.

Side note - French, I didn't realize you were going to be there yesterday! I would have sought you out.

Happened to run across local radio coverage of the Mizzell signing by the hoos the other day, and the guy was going on about how UVA was owning the state in recruiting, blah, blah, blah.....fortunately no one else was in the car to hear me screaming at the idiot....VA is OUR house!

I think it is subjective for all of us, but the question I always ask, is he a great athlete playing quarterback, or is he a quarterback? For me, I'd look for the following:

1) Does he throw in rhythm? Snap, one, two, three throw. Or snap 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 throw? Ultimately this was Tyrod's greatest weakness as a QB.

2) Does he set his feet when he throws and have good mechanics? I am not an expert on QB mechanics, but one trick I learned: on a slant route, a QB has to get his front foot pointed correctly. If he throws behind the receiver or lead him too much, it is because his stance is wrong. If he short-arms the pass (bounces it), his front foot is pointed at the sidelines or he has opened his stance too much and his back knee is pointed at the receiver (like a Jim Courier forehand.)

3) Does he throw tough intermediate routes? Especially an 10-15 yard out to the wide side of the field? Is there enough zip on the pass to beat a starting ACC corner's recovery time?

4) General body language and field demeanor? Is he the boss? Do the other players follow his lead? Is he getting them in the right play on the line?

I've often thought that Espn's rankings are partially, if not mostly, determined by who is recruiting the player, rather than the talent of the recruit.... They don't have the staff and coverage when it comes to college football scouting as say rivals. Whatever we end up this class like the last is STRONG and as long as we continue to be the favored Va school we will be just fine.

I am not feeling the Holmes to Evans comparison. Evans was a big body who went straight to the assigned hole, put his head down, and went through you. He was a weak cut back runner, and he wasn't going to bounce runs either, but he was a load to run hard.

Holmes to me really doesn't compare to any recent Hokie back that I can remember. He sort of picks his way along the line, then when he finds a soft spot, he darts into it. Holmes and Coleman look very similar in size. Holmes certainly is bigger, but there isn't that much difference. I do like that Holmes goes forward (which David Wilson didn't always do at key times) and I liked that both Coleman and Holmes have MUCH better vision than Wilson.

I would love to sit down with Shane Beamer and talk about Holmes, Coleman, and Edmunds. Edmunds fumbles will be his undoing, but he is just spectacular between the tackles, and he was excellent picking up blitzes. I think we'd all prefer him to be a linebacker, but if the redshirt was predestined, with Harris coming next year the entire experiment was a huge waste of a big talent. There isn't a better football talent among all the true freshmen on this team including Coleman (and I have been very impressed with Coleman.),

Yea, I'm not too high on ranking either because we always do great things with whatever talent we get, but I love it whenever we get national respect from ESPN!

And to piggyback off your "HS talent in VA" comment: Bleacher Report ranked VA as 9th best "hotbed for high school football recruiting"

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1269478-the-25-best-recruiting-hotbed...

The talent's been here and will continue to be here, we need to stop losing the big games and we'll be able to better persuade the top talent to stay in state

a gentleman i used to know used to make fun of how many starter jackets he saw in blacksburg. spirit wear is alive and well in southwest virginia. :)

Because if not, they think that this year's class blows last years out of the water. They highest rated players from last year, Caleb and Ekenman scored 80 and 81. This year we have 10 players at 80 or above including 5 that are higher rated than our highest last year.

Obviously ESPN's rankings are historically suspect, but based on their numbers I should be even more excited about this class than I already am.

+1 on the size of Bucky. Would like to know if he is looking like a tall jacory right now and if you can picture him with another 30 pounds on. also, how is his arm strength. from his videos it looks decent but right now im spoiled watching LT3s cannon.

This is the greatest video of all time. I was almost in tears at several points. Every big moment I could think of (bar one*) is in this video. I haven't been able to find a video of the T beside the V for the longest time. Just...Thank You.

*I had the picture of Brock Berlin face down on the turf as my desktop for years until I got a new computer. Not sure if there was ever video of it, but the soul crushing we laid on him was so perfectly illustrated in that shot. Football Season, WHY AREN'T YOU HERE NOW?!?!
