That's disappointing about Caleb. The ironic thing is he probably would have had a better chance to play on defense this year. To use a phrase from Beamer Co., his mind might be tying up his feet. It's hard to learn a brand new position in 3 weeks (QB -> WR). I bet we see a much improved player next spring. Along the same lines, that's what really impressed me about Stanford last Saturday. He looked like a third year player. He moved through practice like he'd done a thousand times. I think the top three WRs are Roberts, Davis, Fuller, and when Coles comes back he'll fit in at the top. Asante looked great to me on Saturday, but my guess is the younger guys will all have ups and downs during the season and Stanford plays, which I'm not opposed to.
Welcome to the site!
keep this up each year. Would love for new highlights to be added or a new one made next year. Lots more memories in store!
Best Tailgating Experiences:
My two best tailgating games happened to be in 2005 for both GT and Miami games when college game day came. I remember partying the night before till 3am then waking up at 7am to go get a front row seat for college gameday under torgeson bridge for both of them. The GT game luckaly was an afternoon game, so we went straight to stadium lot and kept it going. The UM game was at freakn night so that was a loooooong day....
Best Tailgating tradition:
Well dont really have one, but with Bdozers power hour video i think im about to!
I watched this end-to-end last night. twice.
Edmunds is exciting to watch and looks to have an emmense amount of raw talent. Don't think he'll contribute much this year but he will be a great player at Tech.
Stanford and Caleb will be exciting to watch lined up on opposite sides of the field next year but again....next year. I think Stanford has a slight chance of getting some situational playing time this year but would prefer to redshirt him and insert another qualified guy into those situations. I made it a point to watch Caleb every play he was on the field for and I have to say I was a really disappointed with his effort. It looked to me like he was running max 50% every play. I sensed a lot of frustration which isn't surprising for a guy who was a star in high school and has to learn a whole different position. Didn't help that Fuller was guarding him most of the day yesterday. As mentioned, I think he will be a great one but I hope his frustration doesn't de-rail him during the process.
As a side note: Malleck dislocated one or more fingers on his left hand yesterday during punt coverage. It must have been pretty gruesome because it caused all the equipment managers to crowd around him taking pictures with their phones like it was a teenage girl flashing a group of high school freshman. Also got a good "eeewwwooohhhh" out of Logan after he took a glance.
And thus my rookie post it complete..Adieu
I mean looking at their schedule, Louisville is the only other good one. Now I don't believe the parking passes are worth the $160 some people are selling them for. Found Green lots for $80, but I'll hold out until closer to the game.
Now just to get the tickets...VT told me to talk to the Pitt office, the Pitt office told me to talk to our ticket office.
Thanks for all of your help though!
I knew it was Northeastern and even double checked before posting yesterday. Nonetheless, dummy me just couldnt type EAST instead of WEST. El Rods is my absolute favorite btw. "mas tequila por favor" was my go to when i arrived.
It seems like we have a punter in Hughes, which is probably the best news out of the 2nd scrimmage. Getting a punt downed on the 1-yd line is awesome.
Marcus needs to win every jump-ball fade and box-out slant. At 6'4" and 230lbs, that should be bread and butter inside the 10. Marcus did a really good job on the box-out slant for a 2-pt conversion in the Sugar Bowl, so getting on the same page with Logan on the jump-ball fade would make him unstoppable. This is the cure to goal-line struggles, especially since they'll probably clog up the middle with LT3 threatening to truck.
I like that Coleman is being used in the Flanker. I wished they used DW in that spot more last year. Question, though, for anyone at the scrimmage. Was Holmes in the backfield? Did Coleman also lineup in the slot? And, did they run any pass plays out of this formation?
no sure if these will work for you guys but I did some crazy stuff in youtube to dig up these links:

Excellent, gracias! Can't wait!
The end is amazing.
Can we get an easy download for DVD burning?
The two best home tailgates were Miami in '03 and Miami in '05. Well, that and every Thursday night tailgate.
But the best tailgate ever was at LSU in 07.... they know how to do it. Clemson in 07 was sweet too.... we tailgated from 9am until 2am Sunday morning. Oh, and we beat their ass.
Not only is it an awesome history of Virginia Tech football, but it tells you to drink! Every Virginia Tech Football fan will watch this video over and over to get them ready for kickoff! I think I most look forward to playing it with my non VT friends because I know this will get them hooked on the Hokies!
I might just have to bring the dizzy bat back for labor day....
I guess I didn't put into perspective that this VT/Pitt game is easily going to be the hottest ticket all season for Pitt. Their other home games are Youngstown State, Gardner-Webb, Louisville, Temple, and Rutgers. I wouldn't expect parking passes to stay that high. I would expect them to cost between $20-$40 for Gold/Red Lots. If you can't find something cheap enough closer to game day, you should be fine getting a decent parking spot, near the stadium, as long as you get there by 9:30am.... 10am could even be fine.
Gameday parking for $8 is possible, but it's probably a decent walk to the stadium and I'm not sure what tailgating will be like there.
I'm thinking the Public (Non-Presold) Red Lots will charge around $15. That's just a guess.
Hope some of this info helps.
if somebody puts this on a dvd and brings it to my tailgate i will love you forever
I dont remember very much from the game other than the blocked punt and the long TD pass both early in the game... I dont remember much from the tailgate either. We had about 30 people under 3 canopy's. Some how grilling hotdogs, playing beer pong and flip cup at the same time. One of our friends (drunk at the time, obviously) decided to bring his pet beta fish to the tailgate so the fish could get the full experience of VT tailgating. We would take turns keeping the fish bowl between our legs to keep the water warm. We were in the commuter lot which is now covered with parking decks. It was my senior year and it was the last time that it worked out that me and ALL of my friends were together for a tailgate. I may not have appreciated it at the time. But now that I have graduated and not all of my friends have season tickets I really miss those days of just knowing that everyone would be there for every tailgate.
The game was fun. Beating Miami always is. After the game we all went downtown soaking wet. The next day none of us had functioning cell phones. Our wallets were ruined. A set of keys was forever lost. I feel like only Hokies would really appreciate an experience like this...
the local espn guy (JD Howell?) was reppin this video today. Gave props to The Key Play. Said that we've outdone ourselves on this one. And said that tailgating in blacksburg will now reach epic proportions because of this video. Pretty awesome stuff bdozer!
the coaches planned to make some two-deep decisions, a good bit of plays were likely geared to create separation, and it sounds like they may have accomplished that. Looking forward to extended details and comments.
Mine is the 2007 game against Miami (OH). I had met a girl the week before and since I lived in an apartment near the stadium I convinced her and a friend to tailgate with me and my buddies. We had a blast playing flip cup and beer pong. When it was time to head into the stadium I went with my friends in the east stands and she went over to meet her's in the north endzone. Around halftime I got a text from her asking if I wanted to sit with her and meet her friends. We watched the game together and then went to Souvlaki's after.
I married her last November.
Having trouble finding passes within reason online. Most are more than I'll end up paying for the tickets, almost as much as I would pay for all of them. I saw on one site that said parking on gameday is about $8. Is that true? I don't mind getting to the lots early, as long as early isn't 6 AM.
If you're looking for bars on Friday and Saturday night, you can never go wrong with the famous South Side. Any bar on Carson Street will be a good time and you should be able to find one as I think there are around 80. My personal favorites are Marios, Local, Carson City, Fatheads, Coppertops, and The Library(It's actual a cool bar). There are other areas to check out, the North Shore, where the stadiums are, has a great casino. There are a couple of bars on the North Shore as well, Bettis's, McFaddens, Rivertowne, and Tilted Kilt just to name a few. For the most part, those bars are pretty quiet on Friday Nights, but they will be a lot of fun on game day. Other areas to check out for bars would be Shadyside and the Strip District. Downtown has some good restaurants if you're just looking for a bite. The famous Primanti's is in the Strip District but there is also one Downtown and in the South Side.
If it were me coming in from out of town, I would check out the South Side Friday night, tailgate in one of the gold or red lots (you'll need a parking pass) then head to the Tilted Kilt or McFaddens to watch the later games and to have a good time.
It should be a lot of fun.

I really want to post that video. That was a really fun tailgate.
