If SMU is willing to pay $2.6 M per season and has shown that they are willing to invest all of the money to make that program a winner then Seth would be foolish not to listen. Considering they haven't been a BCS program, he would likely be starting from the same position he did at VT.
I would be surprised to see him take the position but if it gets into a bidding war I can't see VT coming anywhere close to what SMU is offering. Greenberg has done a great job turning the program around but it would be silly to pay roughly double what he is making now. That type of pay should be reserved for coaches who make the NCAA tournament just about every year.
All three starters on the bench, limited in practice and workouts, none of them playing in the spring game; is this something to worry about? I know BF is all about building depth but those 3 weeks in August go by awful quick with a big game against an unconventional offense week 1.
I just think about the offseason before '10 with RMFW not getting much reps and not participating much because the coaches were so confident in his abilities. When the season rolled around he never really got it going both before the injury and after he recovered.
Holmes and Knowles will be nasty. I'm excited
What's with both Coleman and Ekanem wearing #4? That's annoying.
Hey, I had Mizzou winning it all
I was happy for Norfolk St but they cost me $30!
Jay Wright sure makes himself out to be a dumbass. First picks Michigan St and then picks 'cuse which gets knocked out the next round. haha
Damn, that bar is high.
Since 1987 the highest in a season was in 1999, where we had 58 sacks, second is 2007 with 47 sacks.
are going to fall in the next 2 years... Anyone know what the current sack record for a team in a single season?
#FreeCoreyMarshall
He might be used in the same way as J.R. Collins was against Georgia Tech. He's going to be one the players I key on watching/following this spring. He's primed to make some noise. Marshall moving to end is fine with me. Honestly I really love the versatility along the d-line. It makes defending a front even harder when you don't know where the personnel is going to line up. We might have three guys in the fall who can play inside and out.
I forget where I heard this recently, but Marshall may want a shot at playing on the end this year too.
I'm not sure I've seen McCray display any kind of crazy first-step or push that would signify success at the DT position. Seems like an interesting move, hopefully more match-up driven then permanent...don't like the idea of a sub 270 lb D-line
He seems to have the ideal size and footwork to be a monster. I'm going to VERY closely watch his development this spring.
but you can't deny his work ethic and passion.
RU FTMFW
i love it .. can i use as my avatar?? bwahahaha
Grades appear to be a big issue with Mike Parker, to the point that he is currently ineligible to play high school sports. Word is that several weeks back that he was ready to commit to UVA but couldn't because of these issues. Unless he turns things around in a hurry and (probably still) is willing to prep for a year, I'm not very confident that he'll end up at either UVA or VT
That being said, he looks like a very talented kid who could probably succeed on either side of the ball.
I proudly have one of the vintage "WA WHO?" buttons from 1982...but this one would beat that classic!
This would be be a great accessory to wear around Cville...HA!
i need to have. immediately.

Sounds like the perfect whip
I saw recently he favored UVA and Illinois now that Chris Beatty is at Illinois, but he looks the mold of a VT recruit with the flexibility of positions and his versatility. Would have to agree with French he looks much more the mold of defensive prospect at Tech.
Terrific job Joe!
I watched Michael on film, and he is a very unique prospect. The defense he plays in is a variation of a 3-3 stack in the middle, with Michael and his opposite lined up like a Steelers style outside linebacker, but then drops back quickly into deep thirds. He is an absolutely ballhawk, with many of his highlights featuring creation of interceptions and fumbles. In run support, he is lined up very wide, so he gets upfield without having to challenge blockers, and he has a terrific first step when pass rushing.
I think his coach really hit the nail on the head, where does this very talented kid fit in the Virginia Tech scheme? He is already Kam Chancellor-size as a junior, so despite his ball-hawking, he would be a HUGE rover in VT's system. He looks massive on film, and I would anticipate that he could be playing at 6'4 230 after a few years in the Hokie weightroom. If the Hokies look at him as a linebacker, my immediate concerns are his pad level, ability to take on blocks, and how his instincts adapt to playing as a whip or backer, which are very different responsibilities compared to the OLB hybird he plays now. (Example, what was the last time Tariq Edwards blitzed off the edge from a base formation, or what was the last time he had to drop into a deep zone?) Hokie linebackers have to fill and maintain gap responsibility, while Parkers high school D had him either creating havoc on the edge while playing contain, or dropping into deep zones (no easy task when you line up 2 yards from the line of scrimmage.)
Offensively, the kid has wheels but he is relatively pedestrian versus his upside on defense.
My analysis? If the Hokies were able to land him, they would have a very unique and versatile weapon on defense. I think the kid could be a dandy of a rover in the mold of rovers from the old wide tackle six, with the extra ability to blitz or show blitz and drop into robber coverages to snatch quick throws. I was very impressed with his film and I look forward to seeing more of Parker this fall.
Edwards' surgery. Clark's dismissal. Chase's dad suspended indefinitely from the NFL. Hmm, with all of Gregg's free time, I wonder if he will be around for practices to help out when needed. Getting the sleds ready. Running the players through drills. Mixing in some new blitz schemes...

I'm firmly on the fence when it comes to Seth. I don't want to see him go yet, but with the way last season went, it might be in the works. I hope he turns it around next season, because he'll probably be gone if he doesn't.
I'm more worried about what may happen if he leaves. I don't trust Weaver to make a good basketball hire. When Dunkenberger was fired, he basically walked down the hall and handed the program to an assistant coach. I understand we don't put much emphasis on women's basketball, but come on. Seth is good enough for now. If Seth isn't getting it done, lets wait for the next AD to make a splash with a big basketball hire.
Having said that, to quote The Key Play: If SMU pursues Seth, and he turns into a contract extension, this will be my reaction: http://suzumiyayuki.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/mind-blown_thumb.gif?w=3...
