I believe Bieber is a big Michigan fan....Maybe if we start the game off right like we did against Miami and UVA, the little punk will be crying so hard he won't be able to perform!

I agree 110%. If I ever start coaching again I will contact you first as my D coordinator.. Love it..

To be perfectly frank I want to go back to my hockey and football playing days right now, get on the pads, and start going apeshit over as many people in Maize and Blue, Orange and Blue, and Purple and Gray that I see come into my path. I can understand being debated as a pick but to say this? Man all Frankenator should do is frame this and hand the article to every player, read it every time the team gets lackadaisical in practice or begins to question itself. Then say simply: this is what people think of you: an easy win. Prove them wrong. On gameday it should be read every chance Frank gets, or Bud, or Cornell, or Torian or anyone on the staff, Stiney included. If VT somehow gets up big...screw sportsmanship now. Keep hitting them in the mouth until they beg you to stop- then do it again. Send a message.

for anyone looking for added fuel to the disrespect fire, read Zemeck's article here:

which states that the Sugar Bowl matchup was a political favor to the BigTen, but not for selecting Michigan. For selecting a cupcake Virginia Tech team as their matchup, over stronger teams in B St and K St. It mentions that this is all from Dan Wetzel, the star reporter from Yahoo, so it may very well be true.

If true then it creates a level of disrespect yet unheard of, including BigTen and Sugar bowl officials which all regard Virginia Tech as the slam dunk pick to lose to Michigan.

I agree with Frank, we don't need to apologize to anyone for being there. We're the winningest team in the country and we deserve to be considered for at-large bids. Our fans travel better than almost any team in the country as well and bring in the money. But the problem is Frank and VT feel we need to tell people these facts. I don't see Michigan or Hoke doing that and they aren't the winningest football team in america. That's the jump Frank needs to make. We expect to be there. We demand to be there because we are Virginia Tech, just like Michigan this year.

Of course, the best way to make people shut the fuck up is win. But most important we need to show up and play. Even an amazing game which we lose at last second or in OT would show we belong. If we get drubbed like Stanford last year or Clemson this past weekend, don't expect to be an at-large pick next year or any year in the future. well, at least not without any political favors.

1, 2, and 3, in whatever order you want: Vick, Randall, Tyrod. I can't leave any of these guys out. They all are so different, yet so similar. All winners, all POY's. I refuse to choose. Okay, Vick is number 1, but only cuz I was a kid then. Hero status.

4. Corey Moore....Terror Dome....Wood-Shed....Need I say more? Dude did whatever the hell he wanted on defense and special teams (when he wasn't playing Florida State.....)

5(tie). Bit of a curveball here, but gotta go with Jamon and Zab. Was in the front row for the win in Cameron Indoor, front row for win over #1 UNC 7 days later in Cassell, 2nd row for the NCAA games, 3rd row for the win over Duke first year in ACC (best game ever. how did we win that game???) .... just too many good personal memories from those guys.

Also would like to throw out an honorable mention to any and every legacy player that has ever suited up for Tech. I am all for family goin to the same school. Respect. My siblings and I like to consider ourselves legacies(legacy's?) of the downtown Blacksburg team, rather than an athletic team, but I still can connect. So yes, that means Marcus Vick has somehow just snuck onto this list...

WE need, no, we must have this win. It is obvious that other ACC teams are recruiting and winning the players that are making a difference in the big games. A BCS win will send the message that if you come to VT, you will win the coastal division most of the time, win the ACC a good bit of the time and likely end up at a BCS bowl game even when not deserved. This is now a must win. C'mon Hokies, let's get it done!

@HokieTriana will be there 12/31 to 1/4 too! Maybe tweet up to ring in the New Year?

But I'm committed to going and am down. Magduff's I know how you roll so I'm expecting a real Pitbull time.

This is a must win in recruiting terms. We are getting closer to signing day with alot of recruits still out there. I follow recruiting way to closer but what can I say, I am all in on building our program into a national contender. From what I have been hearing all weekend we are in danger of losing the top player in the state to the buckeyes for the 2nd straight year. The Urban Meyer hiring almost sealed the deal. We need a good showing in the Sugar Bowl if we have any chance of getting back in this race for Caleb. I am afraid it might be too little too late as I think that ship has already sailed. Lets hope Cyrus Jones will follow JC Coleman down to Blackburg to fill the void. We have got to start getting the top kids in our own state.

Should have clarified, we attended the MICHIGAN/notre dame game...MICHIGAN/sdsu...VT/clemson (#1)...VT/unc.

I may be the only person in this chat room to attend (2) MICHIGAN games and (2) Hokie games. My family is from Birmingham MI and we've been BLUE since the 30's. My wife is a 4th Generation Hokie and we're proud season ticket holders living in Washington DC (for the record, we can make it to Ann Arbor faster than we can make it to Blacksburg).

If anyone wants to know anything about either team please feel free to fire questions this way as well.

Looking forward to a great game.

GO BLUE!

does indeed have a penis for a head.

Too simple for them to win more or lose less? Or for us to beat Michigan? We need to start winning big games again. It's been too long.

So it must be complicated lol. Well said.

Seen a good four or five articles today predicting an easy win/blowout in favor of the Wolverines. Our boys are going to have an absolute bonfire burning up their asses before this game gets underway. I like it.

Joe, Paul and I were talking about a "tweet up" one night. My group will be in town from 12/31-1/4, so there will be many grenades had. The more, the merrier!

Bring on the hate! I love it.
It gives the team passion and drive (UVA, anyone?). It gives the fans passion and drive, too. We'll be crazier, more pumped, and prouder of our school, team, and football tradition than any other fanbase this bowl season because we've got something to prove.
HokieNation will make a big statement on January 3rd, just like I think our boys will on the football field.
All this hate adds up to one heck of a showdown in New Orleans.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.

On a side note, I love not having to play the Big East for the umpteenth time. I hate the Orange Bowl. Bad things happen there.

I'll start with the second question first.

Q: Do you like Devin Gardner package where he's in at quarterback and Denard goes out to the wing?
A: We call that formation, The Fritz. No I don't like it, almost no one does. I'm results oriented and although it averages 9.3 ypc, it fools no one and exposes Denard. Most of the time its good for 5-7, but has some real OH NOEZ potential. What it does do, is gets Gardner involved (Gardner may have had his redshirt needlessly burned by Rich Rod and needs some time to develop as a back up). Expect to see it one or two times nonetheless.

Q: How much has Al Borges transformed the offense from the one installed by Rich Rod, a coach Hokies are very familiar with?
A: Quite a bit, and not very much. There's a good article on mgoblog about this very topic (http://mgoblog.com/content/funes-manballious) and I'm going to steal from it to answer this question.
Total percentage of plays by formation 2011
Shotgun 74.0%
I-Form 14.0% (5.2% of plays against UNL/Ohio)
Ace 7.7%
DR Jet 2.4%
Fritz 1.6%
Proset 0.4% (used exclusively against Nebraska)

For the Sugar Bowl, you can expect about 75% of plays to come out of the gun. About half of those are zone-reads. Our big plays come out of the Ace set including a very effective throw-back screen that is created because everyone is playing Denard. I still don't feel like I've answered your question though. Its a true hybrid. At the beginning of the season, with Brady Hoke talking MANBALL, I-formation we were afraid that the spread would give way to 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Borges tinkered with that before we got to the heart of the B1G conference play and basically gave up on it. What UM has this year that they haven't had before is a reliable halfback in Fitzgerald Toussaint. So the zone-read option presents a serious problem for most defenses and Michigan does it so often that you need to be defending against the spread.

If you can get regular backfield disruptions with a DT then it will be great for you and miserable for us.

Why limit it to one night? Most of us will be there for multiple days/nights. I'm not suggesting an "I Love You, Man" scenario where we become the only people we hang out with, but surely we can do more than just one night!
