I'd have to think no one would predict us better than 10-2, myself included. The team will be loaded next year on defense, at kicker and hopefully one of the punters can step up. On offense the strengths from biggest to smallest are quarterback, receiver, offensive line and running back. If Wilson returns, obviously running back isn't a concern anymore. On the o-line Miller is as solid as a rock, if he wasn't hurt Lil Wang would be rotating in this season and Via has proven dependable. Becton and Painter both have huge upside and hopefully they'll embrace the challenge this off season and solidify the line. The backups next season are all highly recruited kids and hopefully the fit Newsome's system well.
Think about it. How many times have you watched a kickoff or punt return where the kicker was just one step slower than the returner, and couldn't make a touchdown saving tackle....
What if your kicker could run and hit like a free saftey?
Why has this not become a standard for the position??
D.Coale is a beast. Love the way he blocks!!
Leave him in! Let him punt!
Loss of OL starters will be the reason he leaves... unfortunately. What an exciting player to watch! Wish him the best
Woops - you're right.
Looked at the future sched. on Hokiesports and got excited. Either way - looking like a much more respectable year as far as title-hope SOS is concerned.
The paperwork doesn't bother me because everyone does that just to see what people think about him. I wonder if Reggie Bush's success, or lack there of, in his first few seasons would make people more hesitant to take an outside runner. I really hope for the best for all Tech players in the draft and the NFL but I think one more year helps both Wilson and the Hokies, but probably us more than him.
Hey now, the VT fencing club always took great pride in beating the pants off of UVA...
He seems the type of guy to want to finish his degree. Also, he may want to do track for one more season. If he chooses to enter the draft, there is no way his agent would let him compete in track. So, I think it is at least 50/50 he stays.
He did tweet this today:
@4stillRunning David E. Wilson
Don't know where everyone is getting these lies from never said I was leaving.....where yall hear this???
Wanted to reply to you and let you know tht I've always enjoyed reading your articles and your analysis of the game. When do you see, if at all, Kyle Fuller going back to his natural position at CB? Can't decide if he is a better blitzing corner or coverage corner.
Or maybe you could do a piece on where you think, with all the shuffling Bud has done, each starter should positioned to be used against Clemson?
Just an idea.
Fed-Ex does things to your mind.
And depending on how things play out in the Big (L)East, Cincy might get a preview of Fed-Ex antics in the Orange Bowl. Again.
had some not so nice moments. i blame dan snyder and fedex field. watchout cincy.
Wish I could make it down there. Was planning on it, but way too many circumstances beyond my control are keeping me in Jersey. So I bought a 12 pound piece of pork today, gonna smoke it and have a couple of compadres over. I shall be there in spirit with every sip of bourbon y'all take!
He's always said he would
From Hokies Journal Twitter:
"#Hokies RB David Wilson confirmed tonight that he will file paperwork with the NFL draft advisory board after the Clemson game Saturday."
Same behavior as in 07 when I was there. Was attacked by some of Staunton's finest, with neck children in tow. Decided to make my way over to the tech section so as not to get arrested for killing a wahoo. One of Mr Jefferson's Rejects decided to try to attack me but was promptly seiged upon by fellow hokies and pushed out.
Their whole aura comes to a crashing halt when you actually see them in action. I will thank God until the day I die that I chose Tech over that queer little liberal arts academy in Charlottesville.
At the press conference Beamer didn't say who was going to punt this week. It looks like another wait and see approach. I'd leave Coale there to start and see how it goes. He booted it well, and I have to believe we have a fake with him in the playbook. At the very least, defenses need to be more aware of a fake with him back there.
I agree with that being the only real blemish against our fan base that I can remember. When we got off to such a horrid start, people in my section way up in the nosebleeds began throwing everything that wasn't bolted down...and trying to rip off anything that was. A large amount of people were completely blackout drunk and looking to start fights. After the game, there was a lot of unwarranted hostility towards the Boise fans who for the most part seemed like good-natured fans.
He notes the snubs to Boykin and Coale too... IMA MISS THEM SO MUCH NEXT YEAR WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
I was on the stupid hill among many Hoos and Hokies alike. I also tailgated at a hoos house. MOST of the guys i was hanging with were great. However, I experienced the following:
-- Some Cow scream "safety school" then get arrested
-- Multiple UVA fans around me, "wow, you know more about my team than I do"
-- A hokie bird hanging from a noose
-- Being told to shut up as I cheered
-- A girl revert to "Lets GO CLEMSON" immediately after the loss.
Hokie fans for the most part are great, but I saw a bunch of horrendous behavior out of our fellow Hokies after the Boise State game. Everyone has their bad apples.
He also had Mark Ingram as the 15th pick last year in his mock draft but Ingram actually went 28th. I expect Wilson to be the third RB taken this year probably somewhere around where Ryan Williams was selected last year, 35-40 range. I believe last years third RB selected was in the upper 50s. I think Wilson is better than that but his fumble concerns will cause him to slide. RBs tend to fall into the trap more than any other position of believing they will be drafted earlier than they eventually will. Tech has had a few RBs drafted much later than many expected.
even though BDC made it, the beard didn't make all ACC....yet another snub!
Somebody needs to send that link to everybody on the defensive unit (if they haven't already).
Don't think that the lack of anyone on the first team defense, and no mention of DHop is going unnoticed. Don't miss the video on the link below, either. We're comin' for ya Dabo.

Dude I've never thought about it before. Great point! Lots of punters in the NFL look pudgy and out of shape. I think more importantly he did a great job booting the ball...so let him kick again and recruit a great punter!
