Tariq Edwards was under some criticism by Hokie fans last night, but you could tell that his asssignment was the pitchman, which is why it looked like he was letting Washington by him.
French calmly explained this to me after I stood up out of my chair and hollered at the big screen.
I am really impressed with the offensive line play this year. Becton has done a full 180 since Clemson. At the end of that game he looked uninterested, against GT he played with fire in his belly and manhandled fools all night long. It's a long time coming.
Great write up as always.
Nebraska -3.5
WVU +3.5
UGC -13
TCU +15
Oregon +3.5
I only got to see parts of this game, someone decided they needed to have a STEMI and so I got preoccupied, but the highlights I got to see were awesome. Damn! Where was this team during the Clemson game? If this team shows up to Charlottesville in two weeks, whoo. We need the Duke game team to show up there to win- don't think it'll be a blowout like last year, but as I've said many times this year, just took Logan Thomas time to get into a rhythm, and I love how you stuffed it down Al Groh's throat, too. Heh. Good job, guys!
I am glad you included the Becton play. On that play, VT rolled blocking all to the DeChristopher side, leaving Becton one on one with the GT DE. The DE intially beats him to the inside. The Nick Becton who has driven us nuts the last couple of years would have:
A) Ed Wang'ed the defensive end around the neck, dragging him to the ground, negating a beautiful touchdown throw.
B) Looked back at the QB while he either got smoked OR rolled left, taking away any chance of hitting a WR as the pattern was designed for the two middle backers to jump Danny Coale's route, allowing Boykin to sneak just in behind the linebackers. Logan can't make that throw if he has to wait even one second longer, because the left side safety would have time to come across and make the play.
Instead, Becton took a very strong inside step pushing off his left leg, and recovers to tie up the Georgia Tech defender. It looks small and simple, but usually when you see a DE get even with an OL's shoulder pads, the gig is up. That was a subtle, yet big time play.
Thank you also for including one of Jaymes Brooks impressive cut blocks. Brooks was outstanding pulling and cutting linebackers. At least 3 of Wilson's big runs were directly a result of a Brooks cut block on a backer. He also capitalized on Al Groh's three man pass rush to light up GT DE's in the ribcage while they were engaged with tackles (see LT3's nice first down run on a pass-pro dropback on 3rd and 6 early in the game.) He played MEAN football. DeChristopher, Lainer, and Miller all had excellent moments, and I can only recall flipping out on Nosal once. I didn't like the running gameplan for stretches where they really focused on the outside. When they did focus on running in between the tackles on quick hitters, it opened everything else up.
Although it wasn't a particularly great play for us in general, I believe I enjoy Whitley's body slam here best...
* - I love the way Brooks takes out two defenders on one block!
* - LT3 was a beast last night....I thought we might see more of him running after the trucking of Sweeting on the first series.
* - I hope Attaochu enjoys watching the GT/Duke game from the sidelines or home next week, cause I think thats where the boys in the home office are gonna give him an all-expense-paid ticket to.
* - As always, thank you Paul Johnson for hiring Algroh.
i still say that whitley shouldve slammed him down harder
Also great to get some legitimate attention to our studs LT3 and DW4- the announcers were gushing over them all night. Rece Davis adding Wilson to his Heisman list at the end of the 4th was classic too.
It's nice to know that Wilson is the most electrifying player in the country, but I gotta say it's also satisfying that he leads the country in yards. Gives credibility to the claim with some hard numbers.
her?
lol. you a jax hokie?? i go out to shannons sometimes to watch the games although i havent been this year but i try and make all the hokie club meetings. i need a carpool buddy for out of town games lol. i try to gte to the burg atleast for 1 home game every year and always make it to the GT game in ATL UM game in mia FSU in tallahasee and DUKE cuz tickets are basically free in durham lol... and a couple here or there and all the bowl games. GO HOKIES!!! not a huge jags fan but am a season ticket holder lol. GO SKINS! :)
Considering Chan Gailey or Bill Belicheck aren't going anywhere, I think the AFC East is a no go for Saban - Miami ain't making that mistake again.
Honestly I hope we have Saban looking like this in two years if he is still at Bama- may take another opening in the NFL from what I understand. Please let it be an AFC East team not named the New York Jets. He'll run them into the ground just like Miami.
Great win. Strong performance. Lots of heart and confidence. I am too jacked to sleep.
GO HOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cant wait to be in Lane next week!
we made a helluva statement. Go Hokies. Hope that raid stung tonight.
This is one of the best feelings I've had after a win.
That was pretty awesome. 2 more wins to go before vengeance against Clemson.
Nice to win a meaningful game on National TV. While the 15 yarder for the punch to Thomas was big. My most satisfying moment was stopping GT on that 4th down play on the 31. That arrogant Paul Johnson thought that was a gimme. If they would of converted it would of been bad for us. That stop was a huge momentum swing. Love it!
So this is late and I didn't get our game but here are my other picks.

And I get chills every time I see that video.
I've spent the last half hour replaying Enter Sandman on Media Player... Needless to say, I'm ready, energized and ready to kick some killer bee butt. I'm ready to see DW bust a big run on the Jackets and see the disgusted, mopey faces of the GA Tech fans on ESPN's conveniently placed cameras. LET'S GO! HOKIES!
Message to the Team (if I was a coach in that locker room):
Give 'em hell, guys. Show them who has and will continue to represent the Coastal in the ACCCG for years and years to come.
To the defense: stay at home, stay disciplined, and know your assignment. Do not deviate / take matters into your own hands. If you do all of this, we will be fine.
To the offense: Run the ball. Pound it up the middle. Make this a physical, backbreaking game. Make GT suffer.
To Special Teams: Just don't shank a punt.
