I really like the low national radar, feels like less pressure on the team and more to hunger to prove something. We should be rated in the mid to high teens I feel like.

I have a feeling Logan Thomas will be fine from just being in the system for awhile, having a great arm and being poised (I have a lil funny story about his college recruitment when I went to the FSU game back in 2007). The running back that can grind out yards is J.O, I think people forget how good he is and shown to be in previous games like the Duke game in 2009. For whip I would love VT to go bigger and have Patterson or Edwards try it out in the spring. I think if you want to actually be able to compete against the big boys we need the linemen to step up in a big way, I can't remember last time VT had a big dominating DT.

Oh it definitely takes a ton of luck. Think of all the breaks on just a single play each team got over the course of the season. A couple that come to mind are Clemson missing the kick against Auburn, and Cal doing the same thing three times against Oregon. You also have to be lucky to avoid injuries. I think the injuries really hurt us. Nick Becton, Ryan Williams, Kwame Battle, Barquell Rivers, etc were all starters that we lost. I think our weak schedule and being off the national radar early really helps our chances but it will ultimately dependent on if we can find a whip, a running back who can grind out yards and Logan Thomas.

One extra point is that even with the difference in the trenches the big play was Dyer's unbelievable run making a big difference.

Devil's Advocate: Oregon was kept in the game be some brilliant offensive play calling. A lot of luck went for Oregon was on Cam Newton barely missing some long throws that would've been TDs or 3rd down conversions. If Andrew Luck wasn't as accurate on some long 3rd down throws our game could've looked closer like the nati did but Stanford.

Feels like when everything else is equal regarding the skill position athletes that those guys in the trenches can carry the day at the end. Oregon even had a chance to win with lot of missed opportunities with the case in point of 4 runs from the 3 yard line not being able to score. Oregon lost but they did have a chance. Being optimistic, not that I'm saying I think it will happen, but we could possibly follow Oregon's step of getting to a national title especially with our depth returning and weak schedule but if we don't have developed tough nose players in the trenches then it could just be a great trip to New Orleans.

Could be that development of guys like Nick Acree, Zack McCray, Vinston Painter, Becton, and the Hopkins bros is just as important or more than Logan Thomas and David Wilson when it comes to the big game. Even with gifted RBs its hard to get a consistent run game when your interior offensive linemen are getting pushed back as evidenced by Oregon and us.

no one who says "dirty hooker mouth" can be taken seriously. ;)

Why so serious?

you shut your dirty hooker mouth.

I apologize for the negative, complaint-driven post. Still trying to shake off the damn Orange Bowl.

I wrote how I hoped Bud Foster would get another job, you're absolved.

I missed the post game, but yeah even if Jaryon had picked that ball and taken it to the house we would have gotten our ass kicked by just a little less.

- It is stupid of me to dwell on this more than I already have, but this was THE year. All of the pieces were in place, and we couldn't get to where we wanted to be. I appreciate the ACC championship and Orange Bowl berth, especially after how the season started, but frankly I would have been upset back in August if you had told me that's what we were setting for. We had the talent to (theoretically) compete for a MNC, and I don't think we will now for a while. The pieces won't come together again like they did this year. Just look at how things set up:

The way I made myself feel a little bit better was by realizing that even if we had won out Oregon and Auburn would still be playing in the MNC.

- (2011) 80% of your offensive line and all receivers back...you lose your two star running backs and program QB

- (2012) a dominate defense with tons of seniors...you're starting a brand new offensive line and inexperienced receivers

This always frustrates me, each season we always seem to have some glaring deficiency because of an oversite in recruiting. And yeah, just think of how good next year's team could've been if we redshirted Tyrod.

weird watching jeff allen play to his potential 1 game then commit stupid foul after stupid foul and take really bad shots the next 3.

As a team, Tech made 34-of-37 (91.9%) shots from the charity stripe including 24-of-27 in the critical second half.

We really need to beat UNC.

Based on our talent, and the weakness of the ACC I consider a successful season one where we win at least ten games and play for the ACC Championship. To take that next step we're going to have beat elite teams and be in the mix for the BCS Championship.

The definition of success is what matters.

Will we be an elite team? Maybe or probably not, but we will be good. We have solid talent. The players and coaches all work hard. If a chance at winning the ACC is considered successful then we are there. I would rather be there than winning only 6 or 7 games a year.

As of right now Gregory is too lean to be anything more than a change of pace back. He's got great speed though, it would be nice to see him get some touches from different spots on the field, but with out offense that's not going to happen.

The offensive line really needs to come together for us to be successful next season.

What will happen next year? There are some playmakers that were injured that will be back. Dyrell Roberts for one. Not sure how good Tony Gregory can be. Had some defensive injuries for the Orange bowl. Remember Lyndell Gibson? I think his loss hurt us against Stanford. Barq Rivers will also be back. Will also have other redshirts and freshman that may step up.

Now, does anyone have any good ideas on how we can pass the time of the off season by?

I tried to make the "Forums" link at the top a little more visible.

Just thought we should give it up to our source of laughs, outlet for rants, and providers of prophetic, bourbon-soaked Hokie Pride. Kudos to you guys and thanks for a great(ly disappointing?) season. Here's to show my appreciation...

-After The Key Play becomes self aware it will immediately send David Wilson back in time to terminate Bryan Stinespring.

-The Key Play invented the internet.

-Give me liberty or give me The Key Play.

-David Wilson thinks about The Key Play while he's eating Chick-fil-A on Sundays.

-In the beginning, God created the heavens and The Key Play.

Thanks for all the posts! They were great all year. Mascot mock was 11-1!

The play calling, at least in the second half, was less than creative and showed no recognition of the game situation, i.e. very little adjustments were made and didn't go back to the plays that worked in the first half. The same formations were used over and over. We were blitzed like 30 plays. We didn't have much success picking it up in the second half. I don't think we picked up the blitz at all in the 4th quarter. It was like an endless loop of the same play over and over.

I am really pissed we didn't give TT and the offense a chance to score towards the end of the game. I can understand the coaches wanting to end the misery and get out of Dodge. But they let the clock run even when we made defensive stops and did not use timeouts to give the offense another chance to salvage their pride.

Maybe what really happend in the second half was that the coaches lost confidence, lost focus and the players sensed it. The guys couldn't come up with any big plays to change the momentum and snap the coaches out of their funk so it just slipped away. I think that happened more so on the offensive side but BF also seemed to run out of steam. FB seemed to lack enthusiasm as well.

Outside of the blocked extra point special teams didn't do too much. Well, they also stopped the fake punt, which was sweet. I loved the look on Harbaugh's face. He guessed we were going for the block and thought he would catch us. That was a big highlight of the game. I thought we would be able to maybe break a punt return, since Stanford was almost last in punt yards allowed, but they covered us well.

If I just remember the first half of the game I am really happy.
