Ends up at....Stony Brook. Kinda strange series of event here he was pretty good would have been the premier back at UTEP and likely a top RB in the MW.
I waiting for the response of Duke that the portal is closed and therefore we cannot enter him. He apparently requested release hours before the end of the portal.

I love the framing of this
Our off-season started in October
m trying to compile data for a bar chart to track the classes but I think I have to wait for roasters to come out, I can't gather it right now.

Yes.
Franklin himself said that when BOV showed him 'the folder' with VT's plan he was interested.
Not so much the feeling good, but the specifics.
I think when Franklin was let go, he was shocked, then upset, then a slow smoldering pissed. And then he starting thinking what do I need to win this thing... and had a long self-assessment; and then an assessment at what a program would take to win with the changes.
We.just happened to have the folder which went along with his take; and here we are.
Because the vast bulk of their players were in the last year of eligibility. They were older, larger, faster and stronger than the other teams and they had a nearly NFL ready QB.
That 1999 team had WAY more talent on it than this IU team. I think all but one starter on defense went to the NFL and all but Moore was in the NFL for 3+ years.
Miami may have won if either of 2 guys would have decided to block for a punt.
GT will fall off this year. Losing a lot of talent on the field and on the coaching staff.
I think I've come to the realization that competent QB play can add unlimited upside in this environment. We've seen this with UVA this year and Syracuse last year
I don't see UVA or Syracuse as these teams at all... To me, UVA was just old at every position - they were basically a poor man's Indiana. With Syracuse - yea, McCord put up great numbers, but three of his top 4 pass catchers were drafted and the fourth (pena) transferred to PSU (I think French recently mentioned him in a post/film review). That Syracuse offensive line also had one senior, three redshirt seniors, and one redshirt Junior.
Maybe QB can offer unlimited upside, but the rest of the offense defines the floor. I think we're going to see some ugly offense this year. There's a lot of talent but I feel like a lot of youth too.
This is the right way of thinking, no one will replicate Indiana, is a fluke, and Franklin isnt the in game coach or talent developer Cignetti is. The 72nd most talented roster just won the national title. The next least talented was Michigan at 14th, and they cheated to do it. There are only 1-2 more unlikely championships in all of sports history.
But an elite recruiter with questionable 4th quarter decision making is right up are alley, so if miami can do it then we have a chance.
I think he's betting that Franklin thinks VT is an appropriate place to stay and do this as long as VT keeps it's apparent commitment as declared by the board this fall.
Yes very cool . Also ocean kayaking from same place , lots of fun . Kona Brewing Co.if into that . Try to make it to Kileaua volcano . has been erupting upto 1500 ft .
They used to be in overrated until they started picking us. Now they are to be trusted!
That route was cancelled due to low ridership.
I think he's betting that his players will follow him if he decides to leave in 2 years...
I think he's betting that (1) he will and (2) he can.
I may be taking an afternoon from ABQ to hit up the VLA about 1.5hr west of there. PF may work as well.
Franklin is stacking the team with players about the same age. Young guys with 3-4 years of eligibility.
He wants to peak the team for the year his QB is on his last year of eligibility. In this case 3 years.
This assumes:
- He stays at VT for 3 years
- He can retain contributors
Its very sad that Mark lost his father. Those types of relationships are irreplaceable and it can be very traumatic and damaging to lose a parent when you're still young. That does not excuse assault, IMO.
I got in fights with kids when I was younger over my estranged mother, who I had lost touch with after my parents split. So...on a level, I get it. But I was 10-12. When you get to be 18-20 years old, you gotta know when to just let people be assholes and not get yourself into trouble. Needling someone over a lost parent is bad. Doing it intentionally and knowingly is being a complete asshole (FTR, I don't think we know for sure whether Tyrique even knew Fletcher's father had passed - maybe he did, maybe he didn't). Either way, when you're a grown adult you can't be throwing hands at people for saying things that make you feel hard emotions.
This is what I have been trying to say for the past month.
Look at the age of the players.

Watch the class that predominates in the 2 deep. In 2 years we'll be at the ACC championship. At 3 years is the goal for Natty run.

Work schedule is too tough.

I would elevate Miami to that top group. They have the same number of poll era Natty's as Nebraska, one more than Texas, and two more than Michigan. They became a national power over 40 years ago. At this point, as much as I hate them, I think you have to put them in that top tier.
