I have to think from a scheduling perspective its way easier to move things around for what was supposed to be a week 4 game than a week 1 game. From a fan and financial perspective I would think JMU is the better game, from a figuring out the scheduling possibilities it make things easier to just remove JMU.

May be soft but first game out being ODU if we cancel VMI (and we all know how that went this year) is that a risk we want to take? Especially if you really are concerned with TV audience.

I also expect Franklin will invite all the kids he is recruiting for 2026-2028 to our first game. Do we want them to experience a blowout or a dog fight?

Napier may not have been successful at Florida but he is a light-years better coach than VMI and will have a ton of talent still at JMU.

ODU already proved they could beat us although they should be much different after losing Joseph at QB and their offensive coordinator.

If anything I would have voted ODU off the island but Franklin has ties there so doubt that was ever an option.

I get what you're saying, but Nick Saban lost to ULM in game 11 at Alabama.

It's not crazy to think JMU (they made the playoffs this year, remember?) might still be better than us in week 4 this season, even if we end up being better by the end of the season or in the long run.

Neither team is interesting enough of a win to catapult us to the top of the CFP rankings. We need to just stack wins, against the little sisters of the poor if we have to. Our viewership numbers in conference play will be MUCH better if we have a decent record and no embarrassing losses than if we tell everyone "you know, JMU is no slouch."

Regardless - I think it's less about fear of JMU and more about just stacking wins. That's all that counts right now.

A stack of people will tune in, that never would have thought of it, to our first game of the season and especially that it's a homegame because there is so much curiosity regarding the very visible massive overhaul of our entire football team and organization.

If you think jmu without Bob Chesney is going to come into Blacksburg and blow our doors off then James Franklin was the wrong fucking hire... We can't be scared of the teams in our state. That's snowflake soft bullshit there

Yeah, did that once as a Highty Tighty. It was fun then, but well, we outgrew the rivalry and they couldn't. Still, I don't mind playing them once more for old time's sake, but the JMU game would be way more entertaining and informative.

None of that helps the bottom line. VT needs games that people will watch. TV revenue is critically important. Nobody is going to tune in for VT vs VMI. More people would be interested in JMU vs VT.

They deleted the wrong game. But IIWII. Just win the games.

I think the key is we aren't going to be running the offense that Penn State's most recent OC, Andy Kotelnicki, ran. We'll probably look more similar to what they were running with Sean Clifford as QB a few years ago.

It doesn't have to be, but when I think of Beamerball, I think of aggressive defensives, aggressive special teams, and a mobile QB.

Exactly... I get so annoyed when I read comments like "the NCAA is spineless"... the NCAA isn't some regulatory body. It's just things the schools collectively agree to. So when you're mad at the NCAA, you're really just mad at the schools, presidents, ADs, etc (likely including (y)our own).
