Actually Elko was already working on hiring over Spencer. He tried to keep Elijah Robinson on staff when he replaced Jimbo Fisher but Robinson went to Syracuse to be the DC/AHC at Syracuse. Robinson got demoted by Fran Brown so was seeking an exit back to A&M.
Regardless, Spencer is an absolute upgrade over what has been here and hopefully can bring his Coach Chaos persona to our DL.
I've had an idea milling about for a while now.
Do it like the world cup.
Random draw off 3 pots into 6 groups.
Pot1: P4 champs, top 2 G5 champs.
Pot2: remaining G5 champs, top 3 P4 runners up
Pot3: remaining P4 runner up, 5 at-larges.
6 pods, everybody play 1 home and 1 away.
Each pod winner advances, top 2 runners up advance.
Scoring for advancement goes: 3 pts road win, 2 points home win, 1 point OT win.
No more than 1 team per conference in a pod.
8 teams advance to knockout stage.
Gameday 1 is weekend after Army/Navy
Gameday 2 is weekend after that
Gameday 3 is weekend after that.
Weekend after that is a bye
Quarterfinals are the next week
Semis are the next
Then a bye week
National championship is weekend before the Super Bowl.
I hate the idea of all or only FBS conference champions getting in.
This is the whole choice, though. Either you lead with objective criteria like this, or you open the door for entirely corrupt decisions like an undefeated FSU missing the post-season because AI-generated excuse goes here.
Computer ratings can be both malleable and disposable in the hands of people who would rather just vote in the first place.
Subjective criteria is inherently corruptible.
You can't really corrupt ten conference champions in a 12 or 16 team bracket.
If you don't want to see blowouts, then don't watch postseasons, because that's totally a thing in sports.
after you lose one game, you no longer control your own destiny.
This has always been what I hate the most about CFB, haha. Teams get punished too much for losses. Unless you're Alabama. Or Clemson up until a few years ago. Or anOSU. Or Michigan. Or...you get my point. Funny enough, Notre Dame getting punished for losing two games this year is one of the only times I can remember that ever happening to them. "It's a big club and you ain't in it."
If you're in the Big Club, they find excuses instead of punishments.
All of the "my team would hypothetically win over your team" decision making is just so much nonsense. Think some other conferences is too easy and yours is much harder? Fine, go there and clean up. Play games, use those results to crown a champ.
Every single sport has figured this out except for FBS college football.
I chose Maravia on the advice of respected guides, spent more for size and quality. I had a frame custom made for me out of 2" irrigation pipes so as to not have joints to catch the lines. I also had a river anchor custom made by one of my clients who owned a couple of scrapyards in Ohio, using a pulley and cleating system I could control from my rowing seat in the middle.
But, I was going into business and I can guarantee my clients loved my boat. It had a ton of room for all our gear, and floated fully loaded in about 3 inches or so. I certainly wouldn't recommend this amount of expenditure for a family float, unless you lucked into a sweet used one, and you likely wouldn't find anything like what I had.
More NRS rafts out there than Maravia, at least on this coast, but choose carefully since a lot of them are near their lifespan when folks sell them.
And best of luck with the new kid on the way! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
The issue is going to continue to be that one of the super conferences thinks (knows) that their 4th place team is better than the champion of conference xyz. While that may be true, if we were doing this the right way that shouldn't matter. Quit hording teams. It's the way every other sport is played. There has to be a path to a championship for everyone. Any yes, in nearly every sport, some shit teams get into the playoffs. Just make it work itself out. There's no need to ring hands and decide who's in, set some fucking rules that everyone can read and follow.
LOL touchΓ©.
I wasn't trying to imply that we shouldn't celebrate all the pettiness and drama.
I find it infinitely frustrating that we have an amazing sport that insists on choosing the prettiest champion of them all (subjective committee/panel selection). When we could just do what all the other sports do (create a mostly objective bracket arranged by auto bids and conference champs; use the panel to simply determine seeds and hand out the charity spots to at-large teams).
The SEC wants to monopolize the majority of powerful teams into their new super conference?
That's cute. 10 conference champs and only 2 at large teams into the playoffs could solve that.
Instead we're carving up the postseason every year based on anecdotes and handing extra seeds to the greedy bastards. Trying to solve make believe problems like "what if (*gasp) two of the poorer conference champions play in the postseason?". Or "how can we eliminate the incidences of a large margins of victory between the highest and lowest seeds?".
Distractions.
I also think that part of the fabric of what makes this particular sport special to so many people (maybe me, but maybe not, I'm undecided) is that it is the one sport where the beauty pageant is mixed in.
I've been thinking about this... I think what I like the most is that after you lose one game, you no longer control your own destiny.
I hate the idea of all or only FBS conference champions getting in.
My biggest complaint is the inconsistency and the 'predicting' of what could happen (see FSU, 2023). That's why I say use computer rankings, if you're in the top 15 and a conference champion, then you're in no matter the conference. Then fill out the bracket with at large bids.
We are building out a staff of guys who have done it before and done it at a very high level with a lower budget in a much better conference.
From where we have been the last couple years, I really don't know how anyone can be disappointed with these moves. All of these moves together should vault us back to the top of the ACC almost immediately.
Full disclosure I only rebuild lower parts not the controls or circuit board junk, we use loads of endura 55s on our fishing club boats so I have rebuilt the lower armatures and replaced bearings/props until I'm blue in the face. If the controls/upper unit wont work or get me voltage to the brushes I punt and scrap it for parts its not worth the hassle and none of our stuff is under warranty. I buy all our motors off facebook and yard sales since its a club and people just trash it anyway. If its just a lower unit I could maybe work on it but it may be a little before I get around got another kid due soon so my time is stretched.
I've always seen the NRS and used their stuff so its where my search is going to begin and likely end but was curious if there were others out there worth the dough.
TAMU had:
- The 15th best defense in SP+
- The 14th best in FPI.
- The 3rd highest havoc rate (Sacks +TFLs + INTs + PBUs + Forced Fumbles/total defensive snaps) at 15.7%
- A top 25 stuff rate (% of plays stopped at or behind the LoS) at 21%
There's an argument this guy isn't great - he got fired as (co?)-DC at UF. But it's also not like Texas A&M is trying to get rid of him. This is a poach.
Adding to this... Spencer last 4 stops are TAMU, UF, the Giants, and PSU. Per wiki, he had 4 draft picks and another 2 who received all big 10 honors in three years coaching at PSU:
- Carl Nassib - zero stars
- Austin Johnson - three star
- Anthony Zettel - four star
- Robert Windsor - three star
- Shareef Miller - three star
- Yetur Gross-Matos - four star
Happy. And hope he took a lot of notes from Elko to share
There are a lot of rumors/reports that he is taking an off the field role for medical reasons.
What does this mean for JC?

This is a big time hire. LFG!
I absolutely do that in the NFL
You make a good point. All I'm saying is that I see the possibility of serious improvement, and I'll accept a top 25 DL. I'm also hoping the whole will be greater than the sum of the parts. This guy is a proven P2 coach.
For the time being, In Franklin I Trust.

I can do that in the NFL....the Cowgirls give us so much fodder.
I can dig it
Would have been even better if Alabama lost.
True in most contexts
I agree 100% but I also think that part of the fabric of what makes this particular sport special to so many people (maybe me, but maybe not, I'm undecided) is that it is the one sport where the beauty pageant is mixed in.
It's like, even if your rival is hotter than you, you can still make snide remarks about their stretch marks or the fact that their busted ass eyebrows haven't been treated in 6 weeks.
Can't do that in the NFL.
Likelihood of us having three 5 π and seven 4 π DL to work with though?
Give them credit on sack %. Got to the QB on over 11% of passing opportunities. Seems like really good against the pass but mediocre against the run but didnt watch enough of them to say if that was a DL problem or a LB problem or both.

Thank you everyone. Still processing at the moment. Working on Linebacker and DL recruiting content and then will transition to looking at scheme stuff. I know that sounds kind of stupid at the moment, but I feel like I need to do something productive.
